This was lots of fun for me because I like the show so much. This game is kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure story (but much more advanced)and depending on how you treat the people you meet in the game the outcomes of situations vary a lot. It just made me feel so much like I was actually on a case that I would be on the edge of my seat in fear when something risky was going on...and not many games can do that for me. I think seeing familiar characters talking directly to me added to the feeling of actually being there. If you like the show you'll love the game!

Great game, when is the next one

As a fan of Myst and Riven, I would not put this game in the same category. However, it does equally well for it's type. Myst and Riven don't have a main character that you are per se, whereas in this game, you have a name and a face.

The game puts you in the shoes of one agent Craig Wilmore. He is put on a case to find the missing X-files staff: Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. As an X-files fan, I found this game very entertaining. As a gamer it was well within the genre of adventure games. There were hints, stuff to pick up, things to do etc. This was well within the capabilities of non-X filers and should be equally entertaining.

I likened this game to the Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast within and Phantasmagoria. Unlike Phantasmagoria, there were no gory scenes (of which I was thankful). The people were movies of real people and not cartoons. The dialgue though limited offered enough variability. One important point would be to save often. I got killed alot.

The game had enough of a plot you could figure out what to do next. That is essential rather than blindly clicking on everything you could pick up.

All in all a good buy. When's the next one?

Okay.. Well I'm a hard core X-Files fan and video gamer so I do know what I'm talking about when I say that this game was not 100% satisfying. Don't get me wrong in principle, It has most of the aspects that a good game should have... including that awsome full motion video. The problem was that your Craig Wilmore. This guy kind of sucks. You don't even see Mulder and Scully until the later Cd's in the game. Plus the plot isn't really that strong for it... if your a big X-Files fan you know what I mean, other than the fact that Scully is unbelievabely HOT, I watch the x-files because they have such good story telling. If this game was turned into an episode, I guarantee it would not be one of your favorites. So to sum everything up, this is a fairly decent game, and it was intriguing as well as challenging with all the groovy detective work and following clues, but if your a big fan of the show, don't bother, get Unrestricted Access, if you've played that, sit your conspiracy-loving, mindless zombie butt down and watch some of your favorite episodes

An A to the X-files

Though some reviews state this game as boring, I must say that I found it the complete opposite. There is a great deal of interaction between you and the characters, plot, and evidence. Your choice of questions, behavior, and investigative skills make a difference to the various outcomes of parts of the case, making the game highly dynamic. Not only that, but it is graphically stunning.

I am very impressed with the X-Files games. I actually expected a lot less because of many saying that it was a poor game. So far, I have been impressed. Everything has impressed me, from the innovative and fun inventory, to the wonderfully executed speech menus. The game moves very slowly unfortunately, and you may find yourself frequently returning to places for clues or things you have missed. The game's puzzles never get too frustrating, but sometimes, the game can really drag because sometimes, you just simply don't know where to go next. It's easy to miss valuable information. Besides the slow pace of the game (which isn't that bad, considering it feels a lot like an X-Files episode), everything else has impressed me. The presentation of the cinemas in the game are excellently directed. Many complain that Mulder and Scully don't show up enough, but that's silly because the story of the game is investigating their disappearance! X-Files fan will not be disappointed, and adventure fans or puzzle/mystery fans will also get a pleasant experience out of this. Being an X-Files fans, I am truly pleased and impressed.

It's a good entertainment

We stopped watching the series (lack of time) and so this was a nice way to keep the excitement going. The game is good, perhaps a little disorienting at first. I spent the first hour sitting at Craig Willmore's desk, doing nothing :)

Once you get the hang of it, though, it follows quite nicely. Because you have so much freedom in navigation (you decide where to go, but things won't happen until you come back to the right place at the right time), it feels like the game is non-linear. In fact, it is rather linear, although you have a few variations. I wasn't disappointed in the ending, but not thrilled either, it didn't blow me away. We got stuck a couple of times, but we managed to make it without a walkthrough in about a week.

The rule of this game is SAVE OFTEN. And organize your saves. Keep the last save before you change CDs (they correspond roughly to major developments). You might need to restart from there because you forgot to do something crucial. Or because you died (I got killed a lot too). You need lots of frequent saves, and a few less recent, and a few even less recent not to have to restart from scratch if you believe you forgot something at the beginning of the game. But overall, the storyline is quite intuitive and you'll be fine if you make connections.

Buy this game if you like the series but you're not a fanatic (you'd be disappointed). And you'll have a good time if you can stand occasionally being stuck and turn it into a challenge rather than into a frustration.

A great mystery game!

First of all, I'd like to say that if you don't like mystery games you shouldn't even attempt to buy this game. However, if your a big X-files fan you might like this. In this game, you play FBI agent Craig Willmore. You get this assignment from your boss saying that two FBI agents are missing. Your mission is to find them. I know the word "FBI" might remind some people of shooting and killing, that's not the case. If your expecting this to be an action game, your wrong. The game is to gather evidence that will lead you to finding your agents. So if you're looking for an action game, buy a game like Quake. I'm not saying this game doesn't have action, but it doesn't have as much as you'd probably think. I'll say that this game runs very well and the acting is great. You feel just like your an FBI agent when your playing it due to all the supplies you have. For example, you have a badge, cell phone, evidence kit, gun, handcuffs, ect. A negative thing I have to say about this game is that at some points in the game it just turns out to be a scavenger hunt for eviedence. Overall this game is very good. It's very realistic and is very replayable. If you want a mystery, or want to feel what it's like being an FBI agent, this is the game for you.

A must for FMV adventure fans

This game is a lot of fun, with a creepy atmosphere that revolves around the disappearance of Agents Mulder and Scully. I've heard some complain that they wish Mulder and Scully were in the game more, but I think you still see enough of them to keep most fans happy, plus I found the character of Agent Willmore (whom you play) to be very likeable. The storyline is very strong, the puzzles make sense, and the full motion video (FMV) sequences are very good. There are not very many FMV games around anymore, so if you like your adventure games with video sequences, this is really a "must have".

A predictable piece o' crap

I must admit that at first the game grabbed my attention, but after a while it becomes evedent that you have no influence over the story and the only thing you are able to do is find the right clues and sit back and watch as it takes you to the next setting. For example, in one scene you have to find scully's computer. later the mole of the FBI asks for the computer. if you say "yes" the bad guys get the computer. if you say "no" then the next day the bad guys break into FBI headquarters that night and steal the computer anyway. the only thing that makes this game different from watching an eposode on TV is there are long delays between film segments durring whitch you search for the right pixel to click on to initiate the next movie clip.
