This game is two times better than its predecessor! The story is certainly better (in fact it rather resembles the type of story you'd see in a Metal Gear Solid). The story of the first game was not nearly as in depth or informative as this one. You find out exactly why BAHRAM (the bad guys in part 1) is trying so hard to capture the two Orbital Frames called Jehuty and Anubis. In the first game, the only thing you know as Leo Stenbuck is that the BAHRAM forces are the enemy and you have to stop them from acquiring Jehuty and destroying the space colony Antilia. And ofcourse, the fact that ADA plans to self-destruct Jehuty inside BAHRAM's military fortress called Aumaan.
In the second game though, you find out more about BAHRAM and its plans for the super fortress. You also find out more about the leader of the attack force that was sent to attack Antilia in the first game; if you don't remember who I'm talking about I'll tell you. I'm talking about Viola's boss, Nohman. He's also the guy who gains control of Anubis at the end of the first game and nearly kills Leo while he was in Jehuty. Nohman is far more evil and ruthless (and not to mention, ugly) than you'll expect. And just in case you Leo haters are wandering, no you don't take the roll of Leo Stenbuck in this game. Instead you take on the roll of a Dante look-alike (from "Devil May Cry") named Dingo Egret, who strangely enough has his own past history with BAHRAM and Nohman. With all that stuff put aside, I'll tell you about the more interesting stuff: Jehuty has even more abilities than he did in the first game. Now, instead of just firing four homing lasers at his enemies when performing a DASH shot, Jehuty can fire up to 100 homing lasers in one blast and destroy just as many enemies in that same instant. Also, the grab and throw ability was greatly enhanced. When Jehuty grabs and enemy he can use it as a shield to protect him from enemy attacks( even BURST attacks) or spin the enemy around and throw him at another enemy, causing devastating damage. This also goes for other grabable objects such as poles and pieces of walls. In addition to that, Jehuty now has a sub-weapon gauge that provides energy for his sub-weapons (like Gauntlet and Geyser) and it steadily runs out after each use of a sub-weapon, but it gradually returns each time you destroy and enemy. This game is also much more challenging than the first one, not to mention twice as long. The game also has Japanese anime cut-scenes, better music, better voice-acting, a battle-scene, and much bigger battle zones. With all this said and done, go get the freakin' game now man! You won't be sorry.

this game is truly magnifacent! i thought the first one was awesome BUT HE SECOND ONE ROCKS MY SOX OFF!! its sooooooooooooooooooo kool. one problem though, you have to be a major mecha fan to enjoy this, otherwise theres too much action for you!! lol i was amazed by this price! this is by far the best price you'll ever find on this game!! (well the used price) if you ever see this game in the 20's BUY IT!! i totally reccomend this game!! in it you play as the second runner for jehuty...i doe not recommend this game for those of you who havnt played the first Zone of the enders, otherwise the plot is a little confusing...but by far the best mecha game of all time, it was rated "best game of the month" in the Electronic Gaming magazine!! BUY IT BUY IT!! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!

The fastest and the best mech warrior type of game

I am not a fan of mech warrior type of game. However, being a great fan of Metal Gear Solid I and II, I felt obliged to see what the famous producer and his team could offer, apparently something very different from MGS, and why not they worked on a sooner release of MGS III, which would be destined to be a sales success. The fact is, beyond expectation, the game is fantastic.

Unlike most mech warrior games that control, speed, the player's perspective are always frustrations, one can do lightning fast and smooth (but very clear and viewable) moves, attacks and defences with simple and easy to manage keys. The graphics, the mechanical designs, the storyline, the gameplay are all brilliant. Without exaggeration, the whole game just offers something far beyond what I expected from my PS2 console.

It is certainly a state of the art game and sets a new standard for all else. Strongly recommended.

I love the cell shading in this game. It is way better than the first in everyway. The fighting is more fun and intense. The plot is better. The characters are better voiced and are just cooler than that wimpy little kid who wined all the time. The graphics are amazing and the training mode is really helpful. The game is pretty short though. The saving system is all screwed up. Very challenging.

A perfect way to follow the first

While the first zone of the enders was a fantastic game that defined mech combat for the PS2, it had a number of flaws. First off, the game was short and didn't have a whole lot of replay value save the best combat system that's been out for a while. Second, the story was quite lacking and wasn't played out by the anime-like cg in a good manner.

The 2nd Runner takes all that's good in the first game, makes it better, and then takes all the flaws of the first game and remedies them.

For story and gameplay, two words come to mind: intense and awesome. I say awesome with the meaning of something that inspires awe. The game is beautiful, and the controls are so smooth that simply playing is a worthwhile experience. The story is engrossing and the characters are vivid. Also, in this game you finally get to fight Anubis, the Omega villain from the end of the first game, on fair terms. There are still a bunch of boss fights and the balance between boss fights and regular combat is much better than the first. The music and anime cutscenes only add to the story and go along perfectly with the lightening fast gameplay. The game is still kind of short, about double the length of the first one, but the replay value makes up for that.

After beating the game, there are a bunch of features that are unlocked. One of which is a VERSUS MODE where you can pummel the living daylights out of an unsuspecting friend or test your metal against the computer. Then there is the Extra Missions option, where you can refine your skills and replay all of the boss fights, as well as other missions including survival and no lock-on. More EX missions and mechs for Versus mode can be found during the game (which I've played through five times now and still haven't found everything). Speaking of playing through the game again, after beating it the first time, you can load the game clear data and start a new game with all weapons and whichever mech version you want.

Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner is the best mech game out there right now and will keep you playing for a long time.

if you want a peerly spectacular game, BUY, BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY THIS GAME,did I mention you should by this game. If youre into awesome hack n, slash games add this to your collection. The only thing wrong with this game that the main character's voiceover isn't quite perfect. You engage in some of the most beatiful combat known to the PS2, you have over thirteeen weapons that defintely kicks any game's weapons (except for a chosen few games) butt. Sweet unlockables and female main character that can defintely be rated as frickin hot , if you look hard enough on the internet you can find something that Ken ( the female character) to start taking it off . Other than that this is a game that will speak to you after your done you will feel like you just finished heaven, Be sure to pick up a copy of this game, have fun and good luck

extremely well done

i have played this game at my friends house before, and I think it is great. The graphics sound aNd gameplay are all so awesome, and the cel-sahding was a nice touch. i would have rated this 4 and 1/2 but i cant and this is because of the difficulty in boss battles. My friend had to beat everyone of them for me. Overall i think this is one of the best games ive played in a very long time. go out and buy it today
