Triple Play for PS2 is good but could be better its kind of like Griffey's baseball i would like to know if and when the new one is coming out. I think that the game could be better and you should make it like bases loaded for nintento players should be able to charge the mound. The graffix are good but it could be a lot better that circle thing in the middle is not triple play baseball i been buying these games for PS1 and they never had that hitting icon. Thank you for your time

Worst version ever

This game is by far the worst installment of any triple play series ever to date. Last years was weak, this years is even weaker. I'd even rank this as a zero, and I'm usually not a tough evaluator of games.

EA Sports really missed the boat with this one.
Still bothers me that they came create such great titles like Madden and the NHL series, but the NBA LIVE basketball and TRIPLE PLAY baseball series are weak, they are very inconsistent.

The only one that comes to mind is the original Knockout Kings for Ps1, that appeared to be rushed out to the stores. To me that's what happened with this one as well.

I luckily rented Triple Play 2003, from my video store,
for a two day rental, and played it for 1hour, before I had enough.

Why one hour...It's just boring... the gameplay and commentary are boring, nothing ever grabs you.

The players look childish, and don't look like their real life counterparts, not too much difference in size proportions, like other games on the market, really Luis Gonzalez, the box cover spokesman, is really the only one in terms of overall batting style, that they gotten down to a tee.
This, I believe, helps add excitement to a game.

Maybe we are all getting spoiled and expect to see graphics, like you see in titles like Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy, and to see the attention of detail that some companies apply to the games. That's what the PS2 is
all about, and the capability power this machine has.
Isn't this what 128 bit technology is all about, and the reason gamers wants that to spend 49.99 on a
PS2 game?

The graphics on this game are even subpar for PS1, and the frame rate is very choppy.
the players faces nevr blink, talk, they look like corpses.
Not too many options from camera angles, can't pick night, dusk, day, overcast, the computer randomly picks this for you, you have like 6 options to pick, that's it.

I have been a "serious gamer" playing games for like 7 years now, own PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, so I know what I like in games, and this game doesn't allow me to do much with it.

Bob Costas and Harold Reynolds, the two voices you hear during the game, repeat the same phrases over and over again, in a monotone voice, again and again.

If you want 2 good baseball games for 2003 series,
I strongly recommend the following...

All-Star baseball 2003: (own)for overall excitement with great variety and voice affliction in their commentary and with supberb graphics, picking jersey stylees from alternates to throwbacks and "tv style" camera angles.
Gives you the feel you are watching a real game on TV.

The guys look, bat, throw, run like their real life counterparts, it's eerie. Great job Acclaim Sports.

Only thing this game is missing and wish they would address in the future is, the ability to play multiple teams in a season mode, you could play one team though.
Then I think, we would have the best game to date on the market, hands down.

One flaw in this game is that it's hard to get a triple, though not easy in real life, but the outfield should be a little bigger, to allow this to happen. The Computer AI is rather stupid compared to High Heat Baseball, much funner to play against a human. Also one other thing is that sometimes the outfilelder/infielder will catch a ball that appears going over his head, it's like he has a invisible net above him, you actually don't see the ball entering his mitt.

Also High Heat Baseball 2003 (own) is much better, from 2002. They have improved their graphics from last years version, and offer multiple options , cameras, gameplay for you to customize alot of options from the amount of inning you can play for a game to the amount of games you wnat you season to go.
To get really good replay value for your 49.99

So being a Big fan of EA sports games,
their my first choice, if I had a preference,
I didn't care for this one at all.

I hope other gamers take my advice to heart, you will see after RENTING... NOT BUYING this game, from the start that all the "EA hype"doesn't produce on your console.

i would rather play regular baseball for nintendo. I have been a triple play fan ever since it has started. I find it impossible to field the ball in turf stadiums and i couldn't hit the ball with one of those big red wiffle ball bats i had when i was a kid. I'll buy tp03 but EA Sports better get there stuff together and make a better game. Alot better game.

Great graphics,.....but thats it

"I'm being nice with the three stars, 2 3/4 are for the graphics. Ok.....EA always has the best graphics. But they need more options, like in Madden. We need franchise mode!..., money contracts (like in madden), injurys, creat coaches, pitcher warm up, mound meeting, maybe a adult virsion with some fights and bad attudes (but have a regular virson too), more movies, madden replay options. (make Tripple Play as awsome as madden. "No more jumping up and down after a season game win (I didnt win the world series,..just a game). Win I won the world series nothing happend,... it looked like I had just won another season game.
Get this going and have it come out as soon a possable (The graphics are fine so dont waist your time with them).

This Game is one the best baseball for PS2. I wouldn't know on Xbox because looking at the graphic would be an insult to my eyes. You couldn't ask for smoother gameplay than this.Totally sweet. The best part about this game is the hitting and batting simulations which is awsome. I wouldn't get High Heat for 2 reasons:
Graphics aren't eye catching
The offensive game stinks on ice
ths is a must buy for all baseball and PS2 owners
WARNING:this game stinks on Xbox cause of the controller and graphics

Doesn't have the distance

I remember my first year in the Triple Play series, watching wide-eyed as the intro showed Reggie Jackson whiffing on a nasty breaking pitch as the commentator reminds us how Uncle Charlie was a wicked, wicked relative. It would make sense, then, that to showcase Bob Costas's talent for setting the stage, yet another montage, possibly including a Joe-D to Derek Jeter or Walter Johnson/Randy Johnson contrast, would kick things off. Instead, there is NO introduction to speak of. Does it make a difference? Pop in Gran Turismo A-spec and see if that isn't a marked improvement. So, I figured that the game itself was enhanced with a sortie of features.

While the graphics are decent, they don't seem much better than Sega's baseball offering. It plays like an arcade game, each park putting up Coors Field-like numbers. In a 29 game season, Ichiro was sixth on the Mariners club with 64 homers. Maybe he's the one Ken Caminiti was referring to...

Unlike games that have come before, TP doesn't have minor leagues, expansion, easter eggs, or even a franchise mode. As for the season mode, trades can be made right up to the playoffs (thank you, Arizona for sending Schill and the Unit over for Desi Relaford and Mark McLemore), injuries don't exist, and it actually changes play modes from "season" to "playoff" when the regular season ends.

As for the playoffs, there is NO payoff. 173 games were played and there was nothing to show for it.

In all, this was the most disappointing baseball game to date, seemingly a "rush job" put out simply to have a title on the shelf.

The Best Baseball Game This Year. BUT!!

I game is good, but it needs to be realistic. True too life. There have to be injurys. There has to be something were you can give a player a day off. Like catchers and pitchers need at least 3 days off. and so on and so on?

The Great American Game gets Better Every Year

This is the third installment of the Triple Play series that I have owned. Each one has been a bit better than the previous year. Since it is such a solid product, I am only going to focus on the negatives. My short list should really serve to reveal how hard it is to find flaws in this game.

First, I found the levels of play a bit unbalanced. The "Rookie" level is, as intended, very easy. The problem comes between the two top levels. In the "Professional" level, it takes a short period of time to easily dominate the game. Yet if you move up to the "All-Star" level it is nearly impossible to win consistently without a top team, no matter how good you are. The problem is that suddenly EVERY computer comtrolled player makes All-Star plays on defense on EVERY play and you cannot sneak a fastball by anyone when pitching...even with Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. The realism is lost at this level in order to make the computer more competitive. The problem is that this punishes players who really would be unbeatable otherwise. Second, the graphical representation of the uniforms is not as good as in some competing games. This is only a minor criticism and most people would not even notice it. I am nit-picking to be sure. Finally, there is a limit of 24 slots for created players. If you are someone who is interested in keeping rosters current, this will grow frustrating late in the year when more and more rookies get called up and suddenly you are out of spots to creatr them. If you do not care about keeping the rosters in line with the "real world", this is of no concern.

Even with these criticisms, this is a fantastic game. It has outstanding playability, incredibly detailed stadiums, complete rosters that are current as of January 15th, plenty of player info and ratings, and tons of statistics to give you every aspect of your game or season. While future versions are sure to continue to improve on the Triple Play brand name, this one is certainly worth the price of admission for true baseball fans.

I have had this game for a while let me tell you Ive also have high heat and all star baseball and triple play is better than those two no matter what anybody says those two are not better.
The graphics on triple play are better stadium wise and player wise.My only complaint is I think the graphics could be better and the players heads are too big just like everybody else has said. I think the people who play the game say its too easy are playing on the rookie level or pro. They should try the all star level when playing a game. During home run derby though its too easy. Also what [makes me mad] is the repeating replays when there is men on base and you the hit the ball it also bothers me when you are playing defense. Thats basically my opinion triple play is better than high heat and all star baseball.

If you are considering the purchase of Triple Play from a video/arcade game perspective and have a cursory understanding of baseball, you will probably find it enjoyable . . .

However, if you appreciate the nuances and strategy involved in the actual game and you're looking for realistic gameplay and outcomes, then, depsite its misgivings, your only choice is High Heat - as evidenced by the (nearly obsessive) web communities dedicated to the discussion and development of 3DO's product.
