This is the best football game out on the market. The graphics seem real and the commentary doesnt consist of the words "Nice Play."

It really stinks

The graphics, sound, gameplay, it's all good and fun. This is a very good sports game, the best on the cube yet, and yes, I've played all of them.

The only downside to this game is that you don't really get to "create your own team", and we all know how fun that is. Let me explain, the first thing you have to do is "create" a team. You get to pick the logo, the name, the city, etc, but, BUT, you DO NOT get to add players to it. After you're done creating your team, you save it to the memory card. Then you have to go to rosters, this is where you create the players. So you create all of your players, but the thing is, when you go to add them into a team, your new team you created isn't listed! You have to add all of your players you created into another team, e.g., the Bears. So you spend about 2 hours deleting the original Bears players and adding your own.

So now we have your "team" that we created on the memory card, and the new roster, which instead of the original Bears players, we now have the players we created. So you go to the Season or franchise mode to finally play some football, you push X to load your "team" in, now this is the [bad] part, when you add your "team" in, it asks you which team's roster you want to use. So of course you want to use the Bears roster so you can use your players you created. But now that you've done that, the Bears aren't in the season or franchise anymore...

I think they should have made it when you add a team, it is really a team that is listed with all the others, so you can add your 'free agents' into it, etc, instead of borrowing another team's roster. It's just like the same team, but with a different name and logo on it.

Anyway, the game is fun, I just really like to have control and make teams/players, and if you do too, I recommend waiting until NFL quarterback club comes out in a few weeks.

Bad as in terrible

I bought this game for my kids and my husband to play. Its really terrible because the controls are so hard to manage and the game play is just horrible, I think I'll sell it on ebay to get some money back. My husband a fan of the madden series, but not this one. poorly designed.

Not much of an Upgrade

There is very little different between Madden 2001 and Madden 2002 for the PS2. They've added various game plays such as the 2 Minute Drill (a lot of fun!) and Situation and the animations are improved. (Wide receivers actually catch the ball without spinning around.) The create-a-team feature in franchise mode is fun, but overall there's not a lot different or innovative in this latest edition of the Madden series.

That said, it's still the best NFL game available for the PS2, in my opinion. The animations, the gameplay and the franchise mode are unmatched.

Overall this is a much better game than NFL 2K2, but I sure wish that EA would quit resting on their laurels.

This games is WEAK!!!!

All this game has is graphics, and that's about it. The controls are horrible, and the gameplay is even worse. It kinda felt like I was watching pee-wee football while playing this game. I must say I was highly disappointed with this game, judging by the excellent job EA did with previous years of the Madden series. Trust me save yourself the money and do not rent or buy this game.

Absolute Control!!!!!

Absolute control is the fact is why I'm in love with Madden 2002. I know by now, everbody's into Madden 2003, and I honestly admit that I'm behind the power curve. When I finally get to play 2003 I only hope that it allows me to do the same things plus some that 2002 does.

The reason why I didn't start playing 2002 off the bat was I kept losing! Once I got the hang of it, I couldn't put the controller down. I love the Create a Team feature which allows me to move teams to different cities. What I would like to see in the future is when naming teams, I should be able to have the state as the city not just the city. Example: If I wanted to name a team the Alabama Rattlers, I should be able to put Alabama down as the name of the team and have the team play in Birmingham,AL like the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals.

Next, the ability to create players after each season and also edit the players in the draft by changing their name, school and looks. The option of drafting players from NCAA Football 2002 is absolute genius! I wish NBA Live would take a page out of Madden's book. The option of changing teams Head Coach and creating your own coach is absolute genius as well. I just wish that I could delete that DAL Coach for good because every time I fire him, He pops up with another team. I'm sure that 2003 will have Dave Campo as the Cowboys Coach.

The Super Bowl aspect is impressive as well. I assumed that after the 2001 season all the other Super Bowls would be at something generic like EA Sports Stadium. Somehow, EA Sports found out what cities would host the Super Bowl each year. I would like the see a better championship presentation. Just having the coach wave his hand is not a Super Bowl celebration. NBA Live 2003 improved their's tremendously, I assume that Madden 2003 will do the same.

Best sports game ever? Maybe.

This was the very first game I got for GCN (I got it before I got GCN!), and I was impressed instantly. This one very smooth and high quality game! It has all the modes you could ask for, such as Situation, Practice, Franchise, Create-A-Player, and Two Minute drill just to name a few.

The graphics are amazing, and some of the best on GCN. There are over 100 faces for the players, so rarely will you see the same face twice. And the players faces aren't just paintings, their mouths move as if talking, eyes move, they blink, and everything. The game is so detailed that it throws on grass stains and helmet marks when a player gets slammed to the ground or takes a hard hit. The framerate is also very good, it only lags rarely when you down on your own 1 or something like that.

The controls are easy to pick up, too, of course. Each player has his own button for you to throw with him, and it is easy to scramble as a QB and juke people out as a RB/HB. Catching is automatic, so no worries about that. Madden 2002 has near flawless controls.

Of course, there is always one downfall of the game, and it is the difficulty. The game gets very easy up to All-Pro, and when you advance up to All-Madden, the game is just too hard (opposing players are extremely hard to tackle and break 70 yard runs every other play).

With all the factors and everything combined this game gets a...

A- (9.2/10)

(yes my scale is kinda odd)

Madden continues football dominance

There's not really an awful lot to say about this game except that it's the best football game available on any console. On the Game Cube though, it really shines. The graphics are more crisp, and the controller configuration is much more suited for this game than with any other controller. Anyway, the graphics are exceptional, play control brilliant, sound good, and game design perfect. Madden has always been the best football game franchise, and it still rules on the next generation systems.

Great game, but......

This is a great game that will give you hours of fun. Hands down the best sports game I've played. But what they don't tell you...

You will undoubtable need more memory for your Gamecube. A whole memory card in fact. And it will take a while to figure out. I've been getting my butt kicked and can't seem to get the knack of it. And if Madden doesn't shut up......

All in all small complaints for a great game!
