My older boys have really enjoyed the game, but keep in mind tha actual cost with the subscription fees. After forking over a 6-month subscription - I sincerely hope the game stays near the top of their playlist.
On the other hand, my younger son seems to have the better value with his "ToonTown" subscription.
Not liking where things are heading but good fun overall

If you buy only one online game ever, WoW will definitely be the best investment for your money. Lush environments, an intuitive interface, easy to learn yet deceptively difficult to master gameplay, plus hours and hours of quests, dungeons, battlegrounds, raids, and auction houses to enjoy all combine to make one of the most immersive and rewarding role-playing experiences ever.
Having played this game for about 9 months on and off over the past year leveling two characters to their 60s, I've found that over the course of countless patches the scope of the game has changed alot.
For starters, as you first take to the game the learning curve is short and sweet. Quests are straightforward and the rewards immediate. Trade professions (which are available at level 5) are easy to use and almost always yield something helpful to your daily adventures. Your class is usually well-balanced and can handle a variety of situations and perform a multitude of roles. For the casual gamer this ability to handle most challenges solo or in smaller 5 man groups is great as it doesn't make you obligated to the game. However, what turned me away from this great experience was what happens at level 60.
Essentially, after you hit 60 you've maxed the level for class so killing monsters for xp is no longer a concern. Most 60s will divide their time between running instances to try and get a crucial drop for their item set piece or are farming mats or grinding for reputation in battlegrounds (in non-pvp servers). Gone are the days of simple straightforward questing. Now, quests are long, tedious chains that require groups of 5, 10, 20, or 40 to complete. End game is devoted entirely to these large raid dungeons like Molten Core, Ahn Qiraj, Zul Gurub, and the new instance Naxxramas. Most of these require 40 players to successfully complete. Whereas before you could enjoy a real diverse experience in small 5 man groups where every class can empty their entire bag of tricks to get through a tough fight, now, all classes are specialized for specific tasks. The bosses and monsters will one hit you for massive amounts of damage and you will die in about 2 to 3 hits typically depending on your class and your armor/magic resistance gear. The rewards for this busy work are the highest quality items in the game. All this effort could easily consume your time for hours. But for the casual gamer, not all of us have the time to make an appointment every Friday night with a guild to raid a dungeon for 3 hours a night all weekend long. (Raid dungeons have a 3 day timer typically before they reset).
Thus, in all this game is lots of fun. The classes are all well defined and balanced now. The next patch involves talent changes for rogues which were one of the last on Blizzard's list of changes since launch. The professions are all somewhat worthwhile in terms of farming money but the armor crafting professions are not particularly worthwhile after skill level 225 or so. To level them further requires lots of time, money, farming, and questing and are generally not worth it because the best items are bound to you when you make them (i.e. cannot be sold or traded to other players).
There is plenty of content to enjoy while you level about 2 - 3 characters but after you hit 60 on two toons you will pretty much be confronted with one last alternative: either join a raiding guild and spend hours fighting in a dungeon for crummy drops or start another character and do the process all over again. Needless to say, Blizzard has not patched any content for low level players in months and everything that has been added are catered toward new raid dungeons and new raid armor sets.
Bottom line: If you like busy work and I mean BUSY WORK then this game is for you. If you enjoy a casual gaming experience get to 50 and stop. There's nothing left for you to do after 50. Your class has pretty much been honed out and the more powerful spells are just readjustments to remain competitive with 60+ level monsters, nothing more.

This game has alot of features that I missed from UO. all the good parts of other rpg's with additional features.. the only downside in my opinion is that this is largely a questing game.. but at least you can do quests in groups. You can only have 5 people grouped at a time though :-( STILL EXCELLENT GRAPHICS, GAMEPLAY, STORYLINE AND ENTERTAINTMENT!!

This review is posted re: Game Stop's delivery service. I ordered the game on the 16th Expedited 1-3 days. It's now the 23rd. I called customer service who were helpful & offered to credit the shipping charge. However, they told me The game would not be delivered until the 25th. As I wanted to play the game I just went out to a local Game Spot & picked it up for $29.99 & no $10 shipping charge.
The game is a lot of fun btw. It's like a melding of Baldurs Gate and Warcraft. Lots of quests, a little slow in the movement dept. Things take a long time to accomplish. I suppose once I get a mount it will speed up. The whole create your own item idea is pretty cool. I recommend this game if you like running quests. If you're a hack & slash Diablo fan I don't know if they'll ever make another game like that.
Cool game but purchasing questions for people who buy this game.

WOW is a great gamewith all kinds of options to choose from. As an avid oline RPG player ( UO 4 year Vet ) WOW is a total different world, read the book that comes with the game before playing or you will be lost. I was skeptical of buying this game and weas always told its great, I agree it is. There is always someone out there who will you out with a quest ( 2000 of them )and killing monsters that with the quests makes it all that much more fun. Trade and learn a profession.. Good game, i recommend it.
