No, I haven't actually played this (if you didn't check the date), but if your looking for the cool free-roaming (GTA like) movie tie-in DO NOT BUY THIS. This is a completly diffrent child oriented, very boring to anyone over the age of 7, type game. If you want the cool one, you need to play it on a console, as for Adult/Teen PC owners they got gipped.

awesome game

this game has not hit stores yet, but when it does it is going to be the best game of the summer. There is new combat moves with your web, you can go up to the top of the tallest sckscraper and do a dive and fall all the way down until the very last minite where you put your web up and are saved from the freefall. You battle new enimies straight from the movie like DR. OCTOPUS and many more. I no im going to buyit when it comes out in 7 days. I reccomend buying this game if you like Spider man obviously and if you like free falling from tall towers and covering your opponent in web.
BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent and much better game than the console and GBA game

This game is very much better thatn the console and GBA game. A friend said that this game was made by fizzy factory but he is wrong because on the officlial sit of this game said that this game is made by Activision and I believe that. You can go through all New York City and you can get through the highest floor of the Empire State but the only thing that makes me worried is that the game is not released yet and the console and portatil yes but I think that is going to be much better than the others.
But I will buy it as soon as possible I can.

Not the same as the console (and suffers for it)

Be aware, this game is not the one advertised so heavily for the consoles. This is a "dumbed-down" game aimed at 8 year olds, lacking in anything remotely resembling Grand Theft Auto-style freedom, or non-linearity. The demo was...appalling. The underhanded nature of shoving this out without mention until everyone noticed the demo's idiot-proof nature, and of doing so without even a simple port of the console game is despicable, and is something I do not believe should be supported. Either make it clear that there are different games long, long before release, or (more reasonable, I think) just put the same game on all systems.
By all means make a version for the younger folk, but do not replace the game intended for anyone over that age...We own computers as well, after all.

I will add that, no, I have not played the full version of this game (hence neglecting to refer to the atrocious bugs and laughable errors present in the demo, and the extreme lack of anything resembling customization--not even the controls could be changed--because these things might have changed by the full version) nor that of the console version. I do not intend to play either, seeing as I own no console system, and, even if I'd been somewhat amused by the demo, the principle of the matter infuriates me to such a degree that I feel no desire to support Activision's brainless decision.

This is where the term "false advertising" came from

After witnessing the deluge of advertising (including the "Making the Game" special on MTV) and seemingly universal critical praise for the console version of the game, I purchased the PC version expecting to play the same thing.

It's not.

The graphics are horrible (the Unreal engine is capable of ten times more; yet half the cutscenes are prerendered anyway by what seems to be an old, half-broken Nintendo 64), the same five enemy characters are re-used ad nauseam (and use the same taunt dialogue again and again), and the controls are non-standard and generally annoyingly difficult to use.

Most of all, the free-roaming environments and non-linear gaming so touted in the promotional materials ARE NOT PART OF THIS GAME. Even though the structure of the PC version seems designed for a console ("save points" instead of save-anywhere design; only one game can be saved at a time) it lacks any of the special features advertised for the console versions.

The Unreal engine can blow away even the Xbox's best efforts, and it's a shame that its power wasn't harnessed. The biggest shame, however, is that Activision has duped gamers into purchasing a totally linear, almost thoroughly unenjoyable product that is wholly different from the one that has been advertised excessively in the past weeks. I feel disappointed and cheated, and I hope I can get my money back. :-P

Shame on you Activision!

I took it back the next day. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! If you have a console, buy that game. The PC version is a watered down, horrible attempt to replicate the awesome console version. I'm not exactly sure why Activision did this, but I knew something was up when I saw this game sitting on the shelves before the release date. Again... DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! You will be terribly disapointed. This is a horrible deception and the gaming community should strike back at Activision. Shame...

(the 1 star is only because I had to put a rating, and there was no "0" option)

this game is horrible don't buy it unless you will die if you don't buy it . i got it tuesday played it for 4 hours and 2 hours the next and beat it!!! there is no challenge at all! the graphics are very bad and seems like 1999 graphics engine. you can't go anywhere you want there are loading screens to go into knew maps. the worst thing is that activision made this, ACTIVISON!!! the same people that made Call of Duty and they couldn't do any better with this half-a*s game. the game is short. some parts are alomost remakes of the nintendo 64 game that came out a couple years ago. the console verison could be better but i'm not forking over $30 or $50 dollars and taking a risk that it may not be good. Don't buy this game.

Where was my Spidey Sense?

So, I'm embarassed. I saw the promos, I read the previews, I studied the advertising relentlessly; I knew I had to have Spider-Man 2.

My fingers tingled with excitement as I approached my local video game outlet. A poster filled the window; Spiderman (Tobey Maguire) standing upon a skyscraper, the sun setting before him, his mask in hand, and one word above him: choice.

I was pumped. I somehow got ahold of one of the last two copies, brought it home, removed the cellophane at breakneck speed, and popped open the box.

The first thing that struck me was the size of the actual cd case. Apparently, this game allowed you to travel anywhere within New York, yet there was only once game cd. Strange. But, I shrugged it off. So it wouldn't be as big as, say, Vice City, but it was still goign to be awesome to finally feel like Spiderman!

Reading over the game manual, a few other things struck me. The controls had been made drastically simpler (the reason the game got 2 stars instead of only one). This was, I felt, one of the huge drawbacks of Spidey's former incarnation. The incredibly complex controls prevented one from being truly immersed in the game universe. This was a potentially huge step foward, and it excited me.

The install was over fairly quickly, which kind of struck me as weird. But, I thought, they probably kept most of the info on the game cd intead of installing it onto the hard drive. This would mean larger load times inbetween level areas, but was something that could be forgiven. No worries.

I opened the game, put all of the graphic choices at the absolute highest, and donned my super suit.

The first thing that went through my head was, "When did my Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz computer turn into a Playstation 2?" Bruce Campbell's voiceover comforted me a little, but after playhing through Max Payne 2 for about the billionth time last night, these graphics depressed me. I decided to do a little exploring, and came face-to-face with an invisible wall in the middle of the street. I could see things that I couldn't explore, which wasn't supposed to be the case with this game.

I took a deep sigh, and headed off for my first mission. Closeups of the characters faces were so graphically bad as to be laughable at some points. The voice acting was, of course, very good, excepting whomever did Aunt May and made her sound overly manly. The missions themselves were incredibly simplistic, and the game tells you how to beat boss characters with pop-up screens before each major skirmish. The only time I encountered any difficulty at all was Mysterio's mission, and it was only because of jumping puzzles, which I personally despise because they are a cop-out for game designers to make a "hard" level without exerting any actual effort, or using any thought.

Unless you absolutely love Spiderman, don't buy this game until it's in the clearance section at Wal-Mart. It is easy, boring, campy, predictable, and basically a re-hash of it's predecessor.

Why did Windows users get such a poor game?

I'm trying to imagine the meeting at Activision where they discussed the video game for "Spider Man 2":

Marketing guy: "Okay, so the console version is going to be like 'Spider Man' meets 'Grand Theft Auto.' You can zip around all of New York..."

Other marketing guy: "All of it?"

Marketing guy: "Yes! You can even go to the Statue of Liberty!"

Other marketing guy: "Wow!"

Marketing guy: "There will be missions and a story and then all of the side-missions Spidey can take."

Other marketing guy: "Wow!"

Marketing guy: "It'll be a great game for the Playstation 2, Game Cube, and X-Box."

Other marketing guy: "What about Bruce Campbell as the sarcastic tutorial guy?"

Marketing guy: "Yes! Bruce will be there to help Spidey!"

Other marketing guy: "Wow! This game is going to be great! Are we forgetting something?"

Marketing guy: "Uh...no. I don't think so."

Other marketing guy: "Oh! I know. What about the PC version?"

Marketing guy: "The what?"

Other marketing guy: "The PC version. You know, it'll be the same game as the consoles, but since it's on a PC, it'll look fantastic!"

Marketing guy: "Er, we didn't develop a game for the PC."

Other marketing guy: "What??"

Marketing guy: "Yeah, uh, wow, that's a pretty big thing to mess up. Hmm. Say, you know what? One of the developers had created his own Spider Man 2 game. It's a tech demo. It's not complete. It's not even the same game."

Other marketing guy: "That doesn't sound very good."

Marketing guy: "Don't worry about it. We'll give it some polish and sell it for $20 less."

Other marketing guy: "Wow, okay, if you say so."

Yes, the PC version of "Spider Man 2" is a horrible game. Remember the first PC "Spider Man" game? It was a port of a Playstation game, and you couldn't see any of New York because it was covered in fog? That game is better than this.

What happened? Who knows? PC users are left with a game that looks worse than the Playstation 2 version. Despite using the usually reliable Unreal engine, the game looks bad, the textures look bad, and for some reason, control has been simplified to use the mouse and keyboard, without all of the web-slinging freedom found in the console version. What a disappointment. Save your money and, for $10 in most cases, you can get the PC version of "Spider Man, The Movie" which plays the same as the console versions but also benefits from the higher-resolution capabilities of the PC.
