This game is absolutely incredible! Its almost like you're participating in a movie, a super freaky post apocalyptic science fiction movie.

I encountered NO installation problems and anybody who did was either not following the instructions or their system is simply NOT big enough to support the game.

This is by far one of the best PC games ever created and anybody who complains about violence in games should NOT play games to begin with.

As good as the first, but more realized.

Amazing game. That's the easiest and most accurate way to put it. Out of all my friends, I was the first to get HL2 and beat it. Having played all the way through, I must say this is one of the most amazing FPS ever created. When the Doom 3 hype storm hit last summer, I was at the fore-front of the salivating D3 mob. But as we all know, Doom 3 fell on its face. Half life 2 rode in on a similar hype tide, but delivers in every way imaginable. This is the game of the year. Bar none. Having played a lot of FPS, I'm a pretty harsh judge when it comes to rating a game's overall playability. But with Half life 2, there is no need to second guess or make excuses. - This game is as good as it gets.
You resume the roll of Gordon Freeman; our beloved crowbar wielding warrior scientist. HL2 continues the story of its predecessor, but in much better scope and detail as Valve's vision is fully realized with modern graphics and superb gameplay. The graphics in this game are breathtaking. Despite the Source engine's noticeably detrimental 'stutter,' Half life 2 is flawless in presentation. And also, the real world physics in HL2 are unprecedented. The actual gameplay, from solving puzzles to killing Combine forces, revolves very much around the realistic physical world that Valve has created here. And also, you get a nice long fulfilling story for your buck. Unlike the premature endings of supposed breakthrough shooters like Halo 2, Half life 2 plays its story out to its fullest. - Making this sequel's wait well warranted.
Half life 2 advances the HL universe with its awesome, thought churning storyline. Many of the foggier parts of the first game come into focus here, and the HL franchise is set up for many more satisfying sequels. When it comes to negative things to say about HL2, I'm kinda at a loss. HL2 will meet your every expectation and surpass it. This game is indeed forerunning any of the great FPS to come. Half life 2 has set a new bar for FPSs to reach. With a great story, superb gameplay, unprecedented realism in graphics, and all around FPS fun, HL2 has claimed a place at the top of all FPS titles. This is a game that should not be missed.

hailed as possibly the greatest game ever, HL2 lives up to great standards. people bitch and moan about steam, but its probably because they are retarded. Steam is just the engine that games like Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, and Counter-Strike run on. ITS NOT HARD TO USE AT ALL. Also you get Counter-Strike with your purchase of HL2. Some fun times online. Amazing graphics and ground-breaking physics. BUY NOW.

This game is just plain fun!!!! Even on my slow computer with a geforce 4 mx I was able to have the immersing experience that the guys at Valve intended on showing a year ago. Top to bottom this game blows everything out of the water so to speak. The watercraft level being the 1st level to really explore what the half life 2 source game engine has to offer is incredibly thought out and well designed.I could go on about the physics and artificial intelligence but by now you should know both elements are executed flawlessly. It shows that these guys REALLY wanted the player to be plunged into the world that is half life. Each level having multiple parts and better themes as it reaches its climax is an exhilirating amount of hours strategizing and gawking at its sheer madness.The weapon selection is as you would expect similar to the 1st one in every way except for a few addons
( gravity gun, MP7, laser guided rpg etc.) .The gameplay/gunplay is well balanced and at the same time challenging in more ways than one (on hard). Having lived near Redmond for 10 years I can be proud to say that some locals created the best 1st person shooter/PC game to ever be installed on any computer. Its easily game of the year in my oppinion and will set the standard for future released 1st person shooter titles . [Coming close in 2nd Halo 2 , 3rd Doom 3, 4th Call of Duty.]

side note: the installation and steam registering went very smoothly no complaints regarding any technical problems.

I have played the Half Life series since it began in the 90's. From the start, Half Life and the following sequels were nothing short of addicting and well worth playing.

Half Life 2 is the long awaited sequel to the Half Life series. If you have not played the Half Life series (sold here at amazon in a pack of 5 or 6 games), get it first. You won't regret it. Awesome.

I finished Half Life 2 and admit once again, it has me asking for more. The makers of Half Life 2 kept true to the original series and added far more adventure and some good scare into the game. I'd rate this game 9 out of 10. No game can ever be a ten unless it was a virtual reality game then most of us game players would never return from a VR game. wink.

Get this game if you have played any or all of the original Half Life series. If you want the temptation to just jump into HL2, then you won't be disappointed.

Just like the first Half-Life game, this one pushes the gaming industry forward. All new FPS will have to step up to match the game play and graphics of this game. Noticed some negative feedback left here on Amazon, but if you want the truth just visit a few video gamer sites - EVERY SINGLE ONE gives Half-Life 2 top honors.

I don't understand the problems people have been having with installing this game and steam. It took about 15 minutes longer than normal to install this game, decrypt it, and install steam. Also, when launching the game, it takes about 15 seconds to connect to steam. Installation was a breeze.

People also talk about stuttering sound. I would suspect this has more to do with their system than with the game. I have no sound stutters, and smooth game play. If you have trouble with the graphics or sound, check your drivers or change your settings.

This game is better looking than far cry, and runs smoother. It is an excellent engine, and beats doom 3 hands down. The game is fast paced, and also requires thinking and problem solving. This game is excellent.

All Other FPS Are Pretenders- Long live Gordon!!!!

I have been waiting for this sequel for a long time and it was well worth the wait.The attention to detail is awesome, and the developers have actually listened to the user and what they wanted.I was gob smacked by the first instalment. You will be knocked down by number 2. Do yourself a favour - Buy it!!!!

Deserves to be on the top...

I've only rated 3 games in my life, Devil May Cry, FFXI, and now HLF2. Before I rated this game, I made sure I fully experienced everything. I played the remade Counter Strike Source, then Half Life 2 single player and multiplayer. So be sure that my rating is honest and is based solely on my opinions.

Let me talk about Counter Strike first. I'm a major fan of the first counter strike, I loved the countless bodies and bullets you can spill in the game, which is why I was glad they remade it, the graphics have been imrpoved and so have the physics, which made the game more realistic, but the same in everything else.

Half Life 2 Deathmatch was pretty fun. It was basically like counter strike but with futuristic weapons and enviroments. So to be honest, I enjoyed the single player more.

Finnaly, on my reiview with Half Life 2 single player, I say "Amazing". The story line is more immersive than the first one, the graphics and physics are of course better, the guns rock, especially my favorite, the gravity gun, and its never boring or repetitive (Unless you've played for hours and very tired). So if you want something to waste your money on, better this than Doom 3 or Halo 2.
