I underestimated the power of this game....I thought it was going to be just another dull movie game....I was wrong...The force corrected me. Have you ever tried to imagine what a Jedi Battle will look like?....this game will take you right in the middle of a Jedi battle, lightsabers and FORCE powers included. Awesome movie like graphics and details. Plus several of the best gaming moments of your life!!! It is a bit long and Quake2 style but gradually you as you start mastering the Force it will deliver pure gamong pleasure!!! I will not spoil the surprises on all the cool stuff you get to blow up, throw, pull, and so on!! great FPS and TPS too. Multiplayer action is great as well!...Just buy it, my young Padawan learner!!!.....

Best FPS ever, and you wait till u get the lightsaber

This game is certainly worth being called a work of art from the word go. The game totally immerses you in the Star Wars universe with you blasting storm troopers and deflecting laser blasts with your trust lightsaber to the sound of John Williams fantastic music.
The game follows you as Kyle Katarn made famous from the last Jedi Knight game, and you traverse an intricate story line where every level is unique and every goal and objective for once has an understandable reason for achieving it.
People have wrote reviews saying that the first few levels are boring and the same as any another FPS, clearly these people have never had the erg to blow away three storm troopers with a thermal detonator. Besides, the first five levels are very well designed and set the story for the rest of the game. I'm not going to give the story away but take my word for it, it's not some glued together clone of any star wars film seen so far, it's totally new, and written and endorsed by Lucas Arts so trust me you must own this game.
And don't be put off by the first few levels, though I loved the storm trooper blasting and puzzle solving around the outpost, but some may think it's a bit done before, keep on going, you wait till you get the lightsaber.
Speaking of which, when I was reading reviews I was so annoyed that nobody ever actually said what the lightsaber fighting is like, well:
The basics are that you have three stances to choose from; each stance makes a difference to the style, power and speed of combat. I choose usually the yellow one, but they're all good in their own way.
By the way, if you are going, or have got the game, download the patch from the net, there are a couple of bugs that you should be saved from before playing. Such as the multi-player lightsaber fighting just isn't as good as single-player even against the bots, so they changed it in the patch and now it's just as silky.
Anyway, you control the lightsaber by moving the character in one of the eight directions possible, this may seem a but - `typical of an FPS to use such a dated idea' but don't judge it till you've tried it. It does take a lot of practice to achieve good moves, and a lot of timing is involved to get the swipe to hit the enemy at the right moment and to then roll out of the way to avoid being hit yourself.
With the patch installed and fighting against the bots you get far more close up combat and a lot more lightsaber locks where you have to tap franticly to break out of.
It's well designed and looks great with no limits apart from the number of moves possible, but even then personal combinations come into play and if your in a spot of trouble just back flip onto a gantry and find some health. Of course that works in the multi-player game, fighting against Darth Vader may seem a little harder to get away from.
So all in all the single player game is a fantastic adventure to enjoy an you will want to play it again once completed.
There are 24 large and well created levels, that are all unique and do not share similar designs so you won't get the classic FPS thing going where the story states you are on another planet yet the walls look remarkably similar, `wait a minute isn't that control panel exactly the same as the on in the base, what's it doing in this mine?' - you don't get that with this game at all, each level truly is unique.
That's the single player, which really is the selling point of the game, but Raven didn't cut any costs on the multi-player mode either. Personally I don't play on-line because of the lag, and on this game you will get a lot of it, but I love playing against bots and with bots in capture the flag and team games.
The bots have 5 different skill levels for you to find your sweet spot, and many customisation features. You can choose how much force the players have, and you never know who masters in what field in the force, which will surprise you when you think you're winning the fight and you think the bot is about dead, but then force pushes you down the thousand foot drop to the streets below. Of course if you want some fair fighting you can turn force powers off, and even have lightsabers only if that's your thing. And if you want some one on one lightsaber duelling use duel mode, which can keep you busy for along time. Again if you have the patch, you'll have four more duel rooms to choose from on top of the four already there.
YOU MUST GET THE PATCH!
So with loads of levels and options you'll find yourself pressing the multi-player option on the consol screen just as often as the single player mode even if you don't have a link to the internet for gaming.
A quick end, the graphics are excellent, with max graphics which will require an easy 800Mhz processor and 256MB RAM, you can enjoy the great rendering of the storm troopers which look just like in the films with no jagged edges at all. Of course don't be put off, you can run the game on 500Mhz and 128MB Ram with medium settings and still get excellent frame rate, the game runs well.
All in all both modes are fantastic, and this game should go down in history as one of the best amongst Op Flashpoint, and Black & White.

ok, I will start with the bad stuff in this game: the first few levels (before you get your lightsaber) in this game get repetative after about 15 minutes, and if you are lazy you might not like the puzzles scattered about the game. But if you can get over those few things you are left with the most wonderful action starwars game to ever grace the earth's soil. Now, the best things about this game

1. LIGHTSABER= the best weapon in any game, EVER. That in combination with your force powers make you an unstopable force. Armys of stormtroopers are no match for you when you get near the end of the game (when you have all force powers at rank 3). You won't have any time to use the new guns because you are having too much fun with the lightsaber

2. GRAPHICS= the best graphics in any starwars game, I dont care what graphic engine it uses. All I care about is that is the best.

3. REPLAYABLE= I've played through all expect the hardest and the easist. And when you are done with the game, you can use the cheats and mods to play through again WARNING: if you are a hardcore gamer (like me) you should play through the game and then use cheats, using cheats (well for me anyway) right when you play this game and use cheats to get through it will mess up the gaming experience. But what do i know, really.

All in all: BUY THIS GAME that is all

Great game (with one addition)

I tend to agree with one of the reviewers that it does feel like a bunch of button pushing. I find it difficult in a game to have to worry about which "F" key does what and how. This is a great game - fun and entertaining, engrossing and personal-hygiene stunting: I've almost gone to bed without eating a few times - I think I've lost about 10lbs since playing this game ;). But the one thing to make this game great doesn't come with it and isn't made by LucasArts...Game Commander 2. Imagine using voice command instead of hunting and pecking in the middle of a battle for the "right" key. Say "Push" and all your enemies in front of you are thrown against a wall; say "Mind trick" and an enemy ignores you. Say "Pull" and you rip weapons out of enemies' hands - Force powers at your beck and call, it is a TOTAL blast! The game is fun and I still would enjoy it without Game Commander 2...but WITH it, it's a joy to play and not an olympic finger-hunting, key-pushing fest. Try it and you will never play games the same again. I know it made me LOVE JK2 instead of just like it.

Awesome

This is a truly awesome game. It has a strong story that slowly unravels during the course of the game. It has decent graphics, and its strongest aspect is: its gameplay. Once you get you lightsaber, the game really picks up. Being able to weild a saber and slash, hack, and totally destroy enemies, as well as the ability of deflecting enemy fire is non-stop fun. But I can assure you that you will get lost a LOT. Although this game is mostly action, there is a lot of exploring as well. The levels are very large and complex. Many times you will have to explore for a long time until finally finding a secret passage in the roof and stuff like that. Overall, it's a truly spectacular game that has good graphics, awesome gameplay, a deep story, and beware: it's very addicting!

This, simply put, is an amazing game. The plot is original, the levels are challenging, and the gameplay is GREAT! There is so much variety between enemies, weapons, difficulty levels, and ways you can choose to battle. It's not a short game either. It will keep you playing for a long time, even after you beat it. Also, the lightsaber fights are the coolest things I've ever seen. You can pull off moves like a quarter-corkscrew flip or a 360 turn fast slash. You can jump off of walls and do flips too. Also, in single player, you can clash lightsabers with the enemy and have them interlock! Then you push downward until the opponent falls back. Plus, you can't forget the force powers. There's lightning, push, pull, mind trick, grip, jump, and saber throw; just to name a few. They can turn the tide of the battle completely, and it makes it completely different from any other game I've played. Additionally, the gun variety is great. From the Wookie Bowcaster (a crossbow with green reflective bullets) to the E11 Blaster Rifle (a single-shot with a secondary machine gun), it's guarenteed that you're not going to get bored with the selection quickly. If you're a hacker, by the way, there are some superb cheats out there, including one that will let you drive an AT-ST. The only slight weakness I see with this game is that you're not a Jedi for the first six levels (however, there's a total of 41 levels, so there's no need to get alarmed.) Some of the levels can also be quite tough to figure out at one point or another. Other than that, however, it's a great game and anyone that doesn't hate Star Wars!

Great Star Wars Game, if you've got the power

If your a real Star Wars fan, or just want a good game, this is the one for you. I wouldn't call this a "no risk" purchase, because there are definetly gamers out there who would prefer a more "guided" game, with less twists, turns, and puzzles (like Max Payne). The puzzles definetly get annoying after a while, and you may find yourself saying..."I really don't need this break in the action to wonder around in circles." What is a puzzle? Well trying to find a secret code to unlock a door may take you 15 minutes of running around the level. Aside from that..

When there is action, its GREAT. The graphics are top notch, (running on a Geforce 3 Ti on 1024x768 resolution, everything maxed out). The sounds are right out of all the Star Wars movies, the music, the laser blasts, and the lightsaber. You'll feel like you walked into the middle of Empire Strikes Back just from the audio/visual standpoint. The levels are done in GREAT detail.

The enemy AI is a bit suspect, the Storm Troopers aren't the most aware enemies you've ever encountered in computer games, but when the do come after you it's a battle. The easiest setting is even challenging, and the hardest setting is near impossible without cheat codes, which there are available. (I don't reccomend playing with these as it will DEFINETLY shorten the game, and make it ALOT easier). I notice alot of people complaining about AI in this game as well as others, but I don't see a problem in JDK2.

The BOTTOM LINE....If your a Star Wars fan, looking for great graphics and a different FPS, go for Jedi Knight II. It's unlike any game out there, and that's what makes it worth buying. It's unique.

**I would reccomend this even more to players with higher end computers. I'm running a P4 at 2.8ghz, with 512 MBs RD Ram and a Geforce 4 Ti 4600...I also ran it on a 1.6 and a Geforce 3. Both run it on pretty high settings.

Good luck and take care.

To heck with the single player...

To heck with the single player mode, I'm only in it for the massive lightsaber multiplayer brawls! :) I'm sure the novelty will eventually wear off, but playing CTF with a bunch of saber-swinging, Force-using Jedi is about as cool as seeing Vader and Obi-Wan go at it back in '77! ;)

Could be - but isn't quite

While being a fan of Star Wars and first-person 3D action games, I would say I expected more. I've got the first Jedi Knight and the Mysteries of Sith expansion and liked them a lot. Those I would rate to five stars since the playability and overall quality is proven, I kept playing them over and over again even if I had already played them through. And actually I've played the first in series, the Dark Forces, which was pretty good game also and was indeed a driving force for me to buy the first Jedi Knight game (aka Dark Forces II).

So why only two stars to game that has had so glorious reviews from all over the scene? Two reasons: first, the requirements for hardware to run it smoothly. Second, the lack of new ideas in the game.

My hardware specs to run this game are AMD K6-2 3D Now! @ 450 MHz, 128 MB system memory, ATI Rage Pro 128 with 32 MB graphics memory and a sound card which is not fully DirectX compatible (works with DirectX 7 and below but creates sound echoing with DirectX 8). Okay, okay, I know these specs are just below from those recommended in the game, but still I feel Lucasarts went the wrong way adopting Raven technology for this project. I would have been satisfied with improvements in the old game engine and having the game running smoothly. When playing JK2, my frame rate is 13fps indoor levels and 4fps (!) in outdoor levels and levels with lots of action. And at 4fps a game is totally unplayable. So if you do not have a harware well above the recommended specs, save yourself and don't buy this game unless you are ready to upgrade your hardware.

What comes me to the second point: lack of new ideas. I've reached the level that after completing I should (finally) get the light saber. It has been a long way of pretty dull levels in a sense that they really aren't much different than any Quake-style "kill all or be killed" levels, puzzles are no different than in first Jedi Knight game. I would have expected more interaction with the environment than just pulling switches, and more freedom to choose routes to end the levels. Now all levels are very straight-forward with just one or two (obvious) secret places.

All in all, until I get a hardware upgrade I'm not playing the game anymore - 4fps is a horror show. And I'm not expecting miracles to happen even when I get to the light saber levels.

Frustrating

Being an avid gamer of First Person Shooter type games I have to say that Jedi Outcast is one of the worst. While visualy stunning the game itself is difficult to play. Even with the difficulty setting at 2 ( out of 4 ) many parts of the game are hard to progress through without having to save every five seconds. Getting killed in the same spot for the 20th time gets outright frustrating and takes away from the cinematic feel of the game.
This game also has a few glaring bugs. At the end of one of the levels, one of the characters gets stuck in place, causing the game to reach a stalemate situation that won't let you finish the level. Given that quite a few people have had this same problem, it makes me wonder if the game testers did their job as thoroughly as they should have. Most games are entertaining enough that I don't use cheat codes until the very end but I found myself playing in "god" mode after the second level. If you really want to enjoy this game and "keep going" through the entire adventure, then use the cheat codes. At least that way it's more like an interactive movie where the hero is bullet proof and never dies.
