Not Worth The Headaches

I just bought this game and regret every penney.

1. The game is so hard that you'll have a ton of hassles just getting through a couple missions on anything but the easy difficulty. Then the other people come around bragging about how they thought hard difficulty was too easy.

2. The game doesn't have any trainers for the patched version to make the game's difficulty reasonable.

3. And now for the biggest reason this game is a waste of time, money and blood pressure is that this game is hopelessly laggy. What I mean is this game (and series even) has a very strong reputation of being very slow and jerky on not only multiplayer but on single player mode as well. The lag makes the game virtually unplayable. As of this point, there is no known cure for the lag.

Conclusion: The difficulty is something a person can work with but terrible and uncurable lag isn't. How are you supposed to walk when you twitch from one side of the hallway to the other? How are you supposed to shoot when your target warps from one side of the room to the other? I think you get the picture.

AVP: Aliens Versus Predator Tips And Comments...

In Aliens Versus Predator, to acheive success, you must think like the character, use the movies as an example, juring certain levels, predators will try to stalk you untill your weak enough for them to take a shot at the kill...
But anyway the game was very well done, the effects for the alien movement were state-of-the-art but I Find Them To Hard To Control, my suggestion is to play Multi player rounds as alien first, but start the game alone... The Predators Were ...So-So... But Could Have Been Bettre, and there should have been more of them, but i don't really mind, I hate Preds anyway (Preds short for Predators) And I Think The Weapons Were Well Done But UnRealistic... But For The Year it was made it had very good graphics and controls... Good Luck

....TIPS....
1) As Aliens Use Air Ducks And Dark Rooms To Stalk Prey...
2) As Predator Don't Depend To Deeply On Your Energy-Based Weapons, they run out quick
3) As Predator Always Look Out For Aliens, One Good Bite To The Head And Your Out
4) As Aliens Try To Stay Out Of Visual And Motion Tracker Range
5) As Marine Turn Your Night Vision Off Every now And Then To Scan The Area With Your Motion Tracker And Flares...

I first started playing the original AVP when it was first released around about the same time as half life.
At the time it was bloody hard but fun and its a shame there are not more games released these days that offer the same kind of challange. one of the best parts of game design unlike in mololith's AVP 2 is that the aliens do not appear at the same place each time you play that level, instead they are continuously respawining from random points on the map which gives the whole "they're comming outta the goddam walls" feeling, especially when playing as marine.
although it was difficult opening the bonus levels just took time and skill.

I bought AVP Gold after loosing my original AVP Discs. there are not many major changes except the usual stuff you expect to find in an expansion (maps, weapons etc...) but the most significant is the added feature of being able to same the game mid point which, while i think this just allows people to use the quicksave button as a substitues for skill, the community as a whole applauded the feature.
The new weapons are fun my fave being the twin pistols which are supprisingly powerful.
One major gripe for my over the original AVP is that the staff at rebellion decided to replace the voices of the officers on the TV screens with themselves. unfortunatly they just sound stupid and break the atmosphere that the game gave.
Better to pick up the original if you can find it but if not AVP gold is a good second best

Note: there are issues running this on windows XP but the problem links back to an old .dll file in the game folder. this can be solved by downloading an updated .dll from one of the many fan sites out there

Terror Game: Looking Through Both Sides

Aliens vs. Predator, a game based from two different Sci-Fi movies, is a great strategical/first-person shooter game that combines a great mixture of action, terror, suspense, and gore. The game isn't simply between aliens and predators, but also with the added human character to add a different side to the story and adding, hopefully, more depths and variety to the game. Designed for intermediate to professional pc gamers, the game isn't for those who are slow and clumsy, bad of memory or heart, or those not into games like these.

However, looking over the other side, the game A.I. needs much improvements, human counterpart should be even out slightly more, and more levels should be added. However, for the cost and the date it was made, its better than many games made to this present day.

Just think about fighting an alien that, instead of running straight at you, will instead, hit and run and use cover of the darkness and walls more. Aliens in the movie, tend to use team work as well. Thats some improvements, but I might be being a bit too picky.

This game is AWESOME!

This game is awesome (as my title said). A lot of people have been saying its to hard when really its not that hard especially when you get used to it like me. If you are really having a tough time then you should get the strategy guide for this game, it really helps. If you like first person shooters then you should get this game, and if you like this game you might want to try Aliens vs. Predator 2.
People have also been saying that it doesn't run that well on new computers with windows XP and thats partly true. I've been playing on a brand new Dell with XP and I got it to work. All you got to do is not watch all the videos and credits by hitting spacebar. But you got to do it at a time when there's no sound or almost no sound like at the beginning of the game right after it says rebellion and then goes quiet. Also do this when they show the videos at the beginning of each species, but remember only hit the spacebar when there is no sound or almost no sound. I was able to play all species this way.
Overall this is a great game and i recomend it to anyone. I hope you found this review useful.

Well there is not much to say about this game except the following... ITS A GOOD GAME.but it doesnt work with most pcs I here but I must of got lucky. overal this is a hard game (I beat it with alien easy)but the only reason I played a the alien insted of the predator or marine is my HUGE phobia of face huggers. so I played as the predator through the 2nd level and stopped when it said on the movie"XENOMORPH SPECIMENS ON THE LOOSE". thats right I stopped because of face huggers. But because of common knowlage
I know that there are aliens in the first level so there is a huge posibility of face huggers.but wait if you dont play as the marine you have the danger of turrets(when you turn in a corridor and something shoots you and your instantly dead)but thankfully you can hear them but the face hugger sounds is very creepy(constant tapping but you do not know where it is)
but hey forget about that. I will let you in on a secret.
when playing as predator on REALISTIC MODE A(as in one)cheat

1.turn on cloaking(period)and crouch(ctrl) and just walk up to enemys while still crouching and cloaked just charge up wrist blades (R mouse/hold to charge up,release when attack is desired
and frag(kill) them and pickup energys when Field charge is low. Most FAQs say to use shoulder cannon.WRONGE.Shoulder cannon(plasma caster) almost always misses because humans a slow moving and the predator always underestimates the humans.
2.when you come up to a guy on a ledge useing a grenade launcher backup and switch to spear gun( [ ) move back up and zoom in(Page up) and peg'em in the head.Make sure you hit him the first time or you will have to start over.3.switch to medicomp and use it. Equip the wristblades.jump to the ledge on the left.
proceed to the end of that ledge then jump to the one on the right.get the energy recharge and jump down.4.repeat #1.
5. do #1 till you come across an elevator next to a waterfall
turn of cloaking and stop crouching.just attack the guy up there and open the door.if you did all of these steps correctly you got
shotgun speargun(pigsticking)access cheats by going to main menu and right above exit should be cheat options

note this cheat is only for levels you have beaten NORMALY.This is of you cheaters out there who try to find the easy way.
bye the way say yes to if this review was helpful

I've been into this game since first release and frankly just love it. When the first movie came out in 1979 and I went to see it, alone, at a midnight showing, the whole Aliens universe has given me the creeps, and still does. AVP Gold has allowed me get immersed in that universe, walk in those combat boots. The fellow who rang me up at the store when I bought the game said-- "play it with the lights on," and he was right.

Yeah, some folks give AVP Gold a bad rap, but it has one obvious element that is sadly lacking in AVP 2: co-op play. It good to have a little help when you're in levels like Hive, or Trapped. There are numerous downloadable add-on levels that are anywhere from lame to sensational. There is a downloadable cheat utility AVP launcher that gets you all weapons and God-mode so you can sharpen your skills at shooting instead of respawning. I LIKE getting in there invincible and wasting bugs-- great stress release for me. In co-op, or species deathmatch, it's amusing to discover your parter's strengths or weaknesses. My own teenage son is a positive terror as an Alien; he thinks like them, which is s little worrisome . . .

Great fun for the $$$, and if you like any of the related movies, you'll enjoy it.

Just one thing, though. I wish they had put in some of Pvt. Hudson's lines from movie #2 for taunts! " . . . we got nukes, we got knives, we got sharp sticks . . ." !" " . . . now all we need's a deck of cards." (well, that was Hicks, not Hudson).

Let me start off by saying that this game has a great engine. In fact it runs at a smooth 95 fps on my old AMD-K62 475Mhz with 96 megs of RAM and a 16 meg video card (ATI All-In-Wonder). It's not too fond of WinXP's new 32-bit kernel though.
The game itself is nice too. It oozes with atmosphere. You really feel like you are in the game. Use this for an example. You are playing as the Marine and you are standing at the edge of a pitch-black tunnel and your motion sensor (it shows enemies within an 180 degree arc in front of you and it pings every second and a half or so) shows six enemies waitng for you. You light a flare to help you see as you make your way into the reeking darkness. Suddenly, you hear the scream of an alien behind you. You turn just in time to see the alien jump out of the shadows and you squeeze the trigger on your assault rifle (well, left-click with your mouse), reducing it to a corpse filled with high-caliber rifle rounds. Now this is atmosphere.
The three species are totally different, yet equal. The marine uses motion scanners, assault rifles, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers to take out the alien beasties. The Alien has only a claw attack and a tail whip, but he makes up for it with sheer speed , the ability to climb up walls, and he can jump four stories into the air and cling to a ceiling. The Predator is my favorite. He can cloak, has three (well, four if you count the normal one) vision modes, and you can decapitate the other species with the wristblade or the speargun! His weapons are the coolest; they include the plasmacaster, disc, pistol (really an anti-alien grenade launcher) and the afore-mentioned wristblade and speargun. There is nothing like sneaking up behind an marine and pinning his head to the nearest wall with the speargun.
Other people on this site complain about the game being to hard. From the way they were whining, it sounds like the are console gamers (dorks who play Playstation, Nintendo, and Sega [junk]) who [do badly] at PC games. The missions were harder in the original AvP (you couldn't save mid-mission), and the face-hugger could kill you instantly. But these thing have been fixed (well not the face-huggers). Some versions of the Gold edition do not let you save mid mission, but you can download a patch that fixes it...
Multiplayer is a whole different ballgame. There are a variety of modes, but my favorite is Species Deathmatch. All the Predators vs. all the Marines vs. all the Aliens. Plus, as the alien, if you destroy all the lights in a room, you can "hang out" on the celing until someone comes into the room, then jump down and bite their head off their neck (Yes, you can do that in the game). Mplayer no longer exists so the only options are Gamespy ... and a direct connection (must know the host's IP address. To find yours under Win98, open the run box and type "winipcfg").
This is only the second game ever to make me literally jump out of my seat while playing (the first was Half-Life, Best Shooter Ever, voted Game of the Year by fifty organizations in 1998. ... I would not advise cranking the sound and playing in a dark room if you have a weak heart, bladder, or if you are under 13 or over 62. I have much experience with the first game, and this Gold Edition only makes things better. It comes with my highest recommendations.
