I can't beleive a game would ship with no Joystick/Gamepad support! Turns a 4 star into 1. There are hacks that might work, but when you pay this much for a game you should not have to hack it to get basic functionality. Kind of intresting the original Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein 3d Both had Joystick Support!
don't buy this game

What are the most popular (and overused) enemies in video games?
1. zombies
2. nazis
This game gives us both. I wish that a game would try to give us some original enemies instead of constantly going back to the old zombies and nazis. Ok, I know its a WWII game but they should have just left out the zombies. They didn't really seem to fit well in the game anyway.
Problems:
1. I had a problem with the sound during the opening movie sequence of the game. The sound would always break up during this part and I would end up with no sound for the rest of this movie sequence. But then the sound would be back to normal for the regular game. This was just annoying because I didn't know what they were saying during this opening movie.
2. I had heard that the flamethrower was one of the best parts of this game, but I think it [is not good]. I would have to shoot it for a couple of seconds at a guy before he would die, and by the time he did I would have gotten so shot up by him that I would have no health left. It was just too slow. Also, it ran out too fast. And, in the instruction manual it says that the flamethrower works great against zombies, but I never remember even having a flamethrower during the zombie parts.
3. The most annoying part of the game was an attack that the game designers gave to the final boss and also boss1. These bosses would spit ghosts at you, and when these ghosts would hit you, you would not only take alot of damage but you would also not be able to see for a second or two. And, once you were able to see you would almost immediately be hit by another flying ghost and lose sight again. Anytime that I was fighting either of these bosses and I was hit by these flying ghosts (which was most of the time) I would have a few seconds of my vision going in and out and then I was quickly dead. This was the most annoying attack that I have ever seen in any game. When your vision would go out it was nearly impossible to hit the enemy or to try to find cover. And, there would be so many flying ghosts hitting you that after the first one hit it was almost impossible to recover without having to reload your game. I thought that this attack was really disorienting and just frustrating because it didn't even give you an opportunity to retaliate.
4. I thought that the difficulty of the game was too high. What is the point of letting a person chose a difficulty setting if the lowest setting is impossibly difficult? I was playing the game on the lowest difficulty setting and I found it to be absolutely impossible to win the game on even this lowest difficulty. Fighting the nazis was OK and I thought the zombies were challenging but not unbeatable. The first boss was very difficult but not impossible. The problems really started when I got to the x-creatures. The first x-creatures with no legs were unbelievably tough. The instant one saw me it would jump at me at kill me in about 2 seconds even if I had full health and full armor. Even if I blasted the hell out of it with some of my heaviest weapons it seemed to not kill it. I don't get why they made these creatures so much stronger than the nazis. It just doesn't make sense. When I got to the level with the supersoldiers I had to use an invincibility cheat to continue with the rest of the game. I never would have been able to beat the rest of the game against these unstoppable enemies. The game designers made these creatures attacks much too strong. (I was getting killed in 1 second.) They were also too hard to kill. So this is another complaint that I have about the game.
I also had a glitch where some of the time when a grenade or a rocket exploded, I would see a lot of numbers or letters in the explosion. I don't know if everyone had this problem. This was just a small thing that didn't bother me like the other things that I have written about above.
So, I would say not to buy this game since it is impossible to beat without using cheat codes. I thought this game was going to be a lot better than it was. There has to be better games out there to buy rather than this one.
I don't Recommend this game............

I'm a big QUake2,QUake3,Half Life TFC fan and as such they were Jewels but Return to WOlfy...is a Doggie BOne ready to be buried..
The maps were way too small..... cramped
and not scaled properly.....
THe baddy layouts were poor and not balanced....
The Objects like health packs, etc were difficult to see....
The Alarm map was incredibly irritating....
My uninstall of WOlfy didn't work and one of the missions
wouldn't end properly..... What a mess.....
The bottom line is forget about Wolfy....
When the geeks rule...

This is without and beyond any shred of doubt the single *worst* PC game that I have ever played.
I just got through with both Medal of Honor and the MOHAA expansion pack, and was really hungry for some additional WWII FPS. Man, was I EVER let down with this complete piece of garbage. Even on the easiest setting ("Don't Hurt Me"), I'd play ten seconds, then die. Play ten seconds, then die. Repeat ad nauseum. Even on the second level I was trapped for 80 attempts until I finally got through.
Look, I understand that the first Wolfenstein was highly regarded, and I get that the designers of this one felt they had to keep difficulty extremely high to please the online community. I can understand this philosophy if the game is very realistic-- aka Steel Beasts (a tank sim that's used for training the Danish army)-- but Wolfenstein is a FANTASY FPS game, for cryin' out loud!
I could go on, so I will.
-The sound quality is poor- I can with crystal clarity hear the digital "tinny" effect for some sounds.
-Gun physics and performance are *very* cheesy (especially in comparison with MOHAA, which took pains to replicate their firearm effects with some accuracy).
-Voice actors are horrible; I repeatedly found myself thinking Werner Kemperer (TV's "Col. Klink:") in some parts.
-Finally, the Users' Guide is neither.
I will never, ever have anything to do with this game again, and for me that's saying a lot-- I have at least 50 PC games. A complete waste of time... Avoid this one at all costs, guys!
(FWIW, my system is a Dell Pentium PIII 1.0 GHz, 500M RAM, with a new iNvidia 128-M video card.)
Too much hype

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is set in Nazi Germany, capitalyzing on its predecessor that made 3D shooters popular. While playing, however, you will notice that besides Nazis there are no other commonalities between the two.
While the single-player game offers some diversity in environments, there are too few missions. ID software did not put as much time into this project as Quake, Quake II, or Alice. The very noticeable differences: very few graphical effects, poor soundtrack, the AI is not intelligent, and the range of enemies limited - only about 7 types encountered

This game was actually very good. The envirvoment is very dark, and gives you the feeling of a Nazi-controlled place. The music is also very good done, scary in the "occult"-events, and action-thriller-like when you're in action. The only fault, or problem, or whatever you would call it, is the undead. They just, well, don't fit. In every game/movie about Nazis fingering with "mysteries", there is always undead and the devil, and that kind of stuff. The story really needs to be reworked a little bit, because you already know what's going to happen, what the Nazis are hiding, and who you are going to fight against. It is a really good, maybe short, action game, but the story really needs work, because I think the story/plot of the game is really an important thing, if you are going to create a single player episode.
Disappointing...

Granted... this game is not a bad game BUT... there several other games out there with MUCH better multiplayer and single player... namely the half-life series and I found RTCW an overall disappointment. In short, BUY HALF-LIFE NOW!
Not a classic in my book

Judging from the other reviews of this game I read on Amazon and on other sites I was truly expecting to be impressed. The fact of the matter is that I wasn't - and here is why:
- The settings of the game are, more often than not, in some darkened basement, house, or outside at night. The ones that weren't like the level where you infiltrate the camp in search of the sniper rifle, were enjoyable to play and took advantage of the graphic capabilities of the game. The dark maps were just boring and hard to see in. Even after extensive in game and video card tweaking I couldn't get the game where I could see it without eye strain.
- I wasn't around in WW2 and can't say for positive but I'm pretty sure the Nazi's didn't resemble the bad guys in a 1960's James Bond movie. Leather halter tops and hot pants on the female soldiers? Goatee's on the SS guys? Laser guns and night vision scopes? The folks at Activision might as well have replaced the paintings of Hitler on some of the walls with Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator. It angers me to see people water down and nicen up history and evil to turn a buck on it.
- The same rehashed FPS cliche's that were invented way back when the original Wolfenstein, and later Doom, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, etc. are still used here. After big fights you find a room with health packs and ammo in it. Can't someone come up with a more inventive damage and resupply system than that? Is that going to be the way FPS game are when I'm a senior citizen?
In short I think the only thing that sets this game apart is the use of some superior video processing technology, and maybe the creativity of some of the maps (layout). The story is lame, the gameplay is often times boring, the settings are straight out of any haunted house horror movie that has ever gone straight to video.
It must not have been much of a year if this was the best that came out.

A great game with good graphics, story-line and musical accompanyment, but just not enough levels for the money. For the price I expected to get more and not a game I could run through in less than a normal weekend.
Good, but nauseaous(really,-_-) gameplay.

If you bought any game and read their maunals and flip the first page or the last page(that part usually contains the "non-fun-game stuff")you might find warning messages about that some people might feel dizzy or even get unconsciousness when playing games and stuff.
And why I mentioned this is that that this game might put some waring message on the box that this game whether you're not weak to games you might really feel dizzy after playing for few ten minutes(joke).
ok I said some kind of joke to make it funny but it's not a lie.
I really feel dizzy about playing ten minutes and it really doesn't seem that much of "personal problem" because I played UT, Medal,CS and more kinds of FPS but didn't feel any dizziness when playing those.
So I think I'll show why I think this game has high nausea rating(at least, high for me).
1.Too fast movements(espacilly camera view)
2.Castle style textures like gray, harsh and blurry looking textures
3.Bit outdated graphics
So 1+2+3= (I can't play it anymore(too dizzy for me).)
Summary: If you are thinking about buying this game make sure you try before you buy to figure out that you're surely immune to the nauseaous graphics.
