Great game but it DOES NOT INCLUDE THE MECHS FROM EITHER OF THE MECH PAKS ("Clan" and "Inner Sphere") as suggested by:
"A gamer from Mobile, Alabama United States."

I bought the game after reading that review and WAS REALLY TICKED WHEN I REALIZED THAT HE WAS _WRONG_!!!! CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU POST HERE!!

This is the first Mechwarrior game I have ever bought or played. I normally play FPSs, RPGs, and Strategy games.

This game impressed me with how easy it is to control and how much fun it is to fight in large battles with other mechs. The basic premise is that you are a mercenary who takes various jobs for different employers. You command a group of mercs who fight alongside you in huge battle robots(mechs) against tanks, turrets, and enemy mechs.

There is a wide variety of missions: you defend bases, destroy bases, escort important people, and somtimes recon enemy installations. But the best part is Solaris VII. You fight in your mech against other mechs, but it is in a colloseum much like the movie Gladiator. You are alone against 3-12 other mechs and it is survival of the fittest. They could make an entire game out of just that part if they wanted to.

I recommend this game to anyone who like computer games, and likes tense action filled battles. You can play using many different strategies, which gives the game alot of replay value.

Hope you enjoy, I had alot of fun with this game.

There's nothing quite like configuring your mech, adding three guass rifles, making an Atlas go 96 kph, then bringing them into battle against hoardes of clanners. The best mechwarrior games are the mercenaries series, and although not everything is perfect in here, it is still the leading battle mech game out. One problem they have is not enough mechs. Although there sure are a lot, more than Mechwarrior 4: Vengance, it isn't as many as mechwarrior 2: mercenaries, which is by far the best of the mech games. This would be the second best.

The most expensive mission pack yet!

It seems like the folks at Microsoft have decided to squeeze every possible nickel out of diehard MW fans, without really giving them much in return. Given the outageous price, the cheesy intro, and the dubious claim of 50 new missions (15 of them are just arena matches, and many others are "recycled" to pad the total number), the emphasis is clearly on getting as much money as possible, with minimal coding and design time. If this is all we have to look forward to, RIP MW saga.

Little if any work seems to have gone into updating a rather dated graphics engine. A few more detailed skins, and "new" hw that's really just minor tweaks of the old hw, doesn't impress much. In fact, the engine is a bit more sluggish - I can easily play Vengeance and Black Knight at 1600x1280, Mercenaries is often choppy even at 1280x1024.

The missions are nothing special. They all seem to be either incredibly easy, or else 4 to 1 odds slugfests, without much middle ground. Very few offer any opportunity to choose your tactics and improve the odds, and the only real thinking the game requires seems to be aimed more at Business majors than gamers. As for having 8 mechs, ok, so now I have even more people getting in my way and not doing what I told them to. Big deal.

One continuing annoyance - the interface for working with mechs and missions is as pathetic as ever. I guess "real programmers" don't do menus?

All in all, Mercenaries is little more than a highly overpriced mission pack - and frankly, the missions in Black Knight are a still lot more fun. It's time for Microsoft to stop milking this game, and actually improve it. When you finish Mercs, there's a very strong hint that a mission pack is in the future. After spending fifty bucks on this one, I'm not sure I'm interested.

Kill'em All; and collect some cash along the way!!!!

This game is so cool, it kicks my .... I have been playing the MW games for a long time, and this one is the best yet. Aside from being limited to only a few terrain types, the graphics are pretty good; although, they have not changed from the original MW4. If you like having the option of picking your missions, making money, and buying new mechs, then this game is for you. The gladiator style matches are a very nice touch and I can sit for hours playing through each of the weight classes and advaning my cause. If you like BattleTech, then you'll like this game.

this game has great online gamming if you buy this game make sure you go to www.mektek.net and download the mekmatch because the microsoft zone doesn't work anymore, With this you can find online servers. Updates are also available there. When most get this game they did not know about mektek and it is hard to play online without it.

This is the best. A huge amount of 'Mechs for use. The Mech Paks are almost useless except for their 'Mechs. Even then you can't use the Pak 'Mechs in the campaign. You do face Mech Pak 'Mechs in the campaign though. It's like subliminal advertising. The game play is excellent even though I still have a Pentium II 400Mhz. Microsoft recomends a 700Mhz processor. The CGI movie at the beginning isn't as good as some others. Solaris VII is finally included in the game. A kill bonus is included for every 'Mech you kill. Including Solaris there are 11 planets to visit. New Canton and Carse have one mission each. There are three different endings you can get. Late in the game you must decide between Steiner and Davion. Salvage is scripted. Having 8 'Mechs in the field under your command is fun. Add to that about 8 more not under your control on some missions battles can be fun. At the beginning there are four companies you can choose as a sponsor. There is finally a 20 ton 'Mech that is usable. Instead of a lot of voice actors giving the story it is text. I am getting sick of the Inner Sphere. BRING ON THE CLAN POINT OF VIEW MICROSOFT.
If you do buy this head over to www.mektek.net to get some maps and other files. It is possible to download a CTF mission pack and Vengeance and Black Knight terrains and maps for use in multiplayer.

Just played the game over again.

I recenlty got a new video card for my computer that let me view stuff at a 1024 x 768 resolution on my tv using the s-video cable so i stuck my computer in my living room and hooked it up to my tv and my surround receiver just to see what it would look like.

THIS GAME IS BEST WHEN USED WITH A REALLY BIG WOOFER.

Oh my god it was awesome. I loved this game when i played it the first time (by first time i mean completing it with all three allegences) but when you play it on a 600 watt system you can feel 1/8th of a mile away and on a 36 inch screen that makes big mechs feel big you add a whole different dimension of reality to it. If you have a s-video output on your video card go set your computer up in the living room.

The MW4.Mercs has 42 mechs, this includes the mechs from vengance, black knight and the add on packs. The requirements to run this game are at the microsoft mercinaries web site.with 32 bit graphics the game should be very good.As far as game play goes, gone are the days of blowing the enemy mechs up to get salvage, with mercs you'll have to disable them to get salvage.

Keeps me busy

This is the first Mechwarrior game I've bought... ever. So I don't have anything to compare this to.
To say the least, it's a VERY fun game. Kind of straightforward though, and not much to each of the missions. You just choose your mission, and go blow stuff up. They usuallly don't take any more than 10 minutes a piece, which can be nice, but it would also be nice to be able to do a long, drug out mission from time to time where it involves more then just blowing stuff up.
The sounds are awesome and the Mech graphics are great, but the terrain maps [stinks]. 2-D sprite trees, people, bushes, etc... That is the one thing that I cannot stand about this game is the NICE quality graphics of the mechs meshed with the not-so-good looking graphics of the backgrounds. Oh well, it doesn't take away from the gameplay.
As a final note, I'd say if you're a veteran fan of Mechwarrior, don't buy this game, as you will probably be disappointed. BUT if you're a first-timer like me, you'll have quite a bit of fun with it!
