FEAR was a very enjoyable game. But you have to have the hardware to support the graphics or else it looks really bad. I was blown away by the sound! Screams and gunfire sounded amazing. Story was good and very gorey, ghost girl was also very scary. She made me load my shorts a couple of times. But some boring blah moments and some really corny humor wore down on me. Voice acting was ok, some guys would sound british at one point and then would sound american in the SAME SENTENCE. But no biggy. Overall FEAR is a very good game.

Interesting storyline but not very deep. Very short game. Are FPS's getting shorter or is it just me? Only 3 "levels". Enemies are fairly inteligent & remind me of HL2's. Bullet time was incorporated well. Biggest problem I thought was that the levels were all dark & similar. Run through the maze killing the enemy. No puzzle solving like HL2. I couldn't believe it was already over when I finished. The story was not well explained & could have been since it was a novel concept. No big bosses. The end was a piece of cake. Honestly, not worth $50.

This game is dope!

Ive been hearing a lot of talk and a little complaining about how this game is too much like Half Life 2. Well... it is very similiar in gameplay but the game is different and the story is noticeably different but even if it was exactly like Half Life 2 is that such a bad thing!? HELL NO! Half Life 2 rocks so whats the problem if this game were very similiar? NONE to me at least. I enjoyed this first person shooter the gameplay is excellent and fun throughout the whole game. The storyline could be better told and tied together more during the game but its still good enough to keep you interested and like I said the gameplay is where its at. Sounds are erie and great and set the right mood for the type of game it is and graphics are decent as well. There are some cool looking special effects but nothing groundbreaking or really astonishing that hasnt been done before but the game is very good overall most people will be very pleased with this game as a purchase or rental.

Stunning!

This game is simply amazing! Great graphics and sound that made me get chills regularly. The story is great and unfolds just right leaving you to fill in the gaps and the game unfolds. I only had one problem when I first got the game. My video card drivers weren't updated prior to playing the game and it would freeze my computer. After I updated the drivers, no problems whatsoever. Overall, I rate this as one of the best FPS I have ever played.

Feraful of FEAR!

I'm a veteran gamer since the days of the days of the Commodore 64, I've seen many shooters and like the combination of a good storyline, graphics and enjoyable play. You really feel like a part of the environment due to the high quality graphics and sound. It's a great game on par with Half Life 2, although not quite as good. If your considering buying it, I recommend it with no reservation.

One of the best ever

I had tried many FPS and only found four worth the bother of finishing, FEAR was amongst them. This is the first person shooter which actually creeped me out (Doom3 sure couldn't). There might be other FPS with better graphics or sounds, but none have a story or creepyness to match FEAR. The biggest praise I have is that my wife actually finished the game and she HATES FPS games!

Don't F.E.A.R. is just a game...

A very original game comes out the box...

Dont get cooky with the idea that you need a "powerful" v.card to run this game, minimun a 6600GT and you're ready to frag.

The storyline is impressive, in some part of the game you'd think that you are in some kind of movie, an action-terror movie to be specific. The thing doesn't end there, someone tell 'ya that is a short game, well it's true, but if you play this game twice after a long time you'll notice that the scary moments are strong and sadistic than ever before. Don't compare this game with Doom3 or Half-Life 2... this game has it's own spooky scenes and also good NPC's... buy it and play it, you won't be dissapointed. :P

Salu2... ;)

Nothing Original, You've seen it all before....

Is it fun shooter, yes. Does it have good graphics, yes. Is the AI good, yes. BUT WHAT THE HECK AM I PLAYING? An interactive movie, Attack of the clones, or the horror movie The Ring. I thought I was going after a psycho villan hiding in a mental hospital, but I'm in Half Life's Black Mesa shooting a bunch of guys in armor. At times, it is too dark and things jump out so it must be Doom without monsters. It has scary cut scenes, but I can't figure out what they mean. Nice ghostly appearances when you walk into the room add to the scare factor.

Don't expect to kill anything on the first mission, and maybe a couple guys on the second mission. The game is also predictable. when there is a lot of health laying around, something bad is coming. Sierra/Monolith just took things from all the other games and built it into their own. Unfortunately their game engine requires a powerful computer. I don't get it, because the physics are good, not great.

I have a 3Ghz, 1.5GB memory, Radeon9700, and the recommended play is at 640x480. I can run others at 1280x768. The load time is better than most. I do like that dead bodies sticking around, but bullet holes don't show up anywhere. You can't destroy a lot of things, but shooting a computer mouse is fun.

F.E.A.R .... a FPS with a Horror theme

Generally I enjoyed this game, but honestly, I was glad to be through it; paranormal horror is just not my preference for a FPS.

The Pros:

Good smooth action and great graphics if you've the hardware to run it properly.

Spooky atmosphere, (better than Doom3) with some surprises that will give you a jolt.

Easy game saves (and you need to do this very often) with the quick save F5 key, as well as several checkpoint saves done by the game itself.

Some new weapons and some interesting enemies; The Slow/mo feature really added an interesting aspect of some of the firefights you get into. In fact, it would've been very difficult to get through this game without it.

The Cons:

1.)Very linear game play when on a mission.

2.)Only three types of building used throughout the entire game; that being 1.) office tower, 2.) decaying apartment building and 3.) vault/research center. The office towers had the majority of the action; but the multiple cubbyhole workstations, made for very repetitious play and became quite monotonous after a while (not to mention confusing). There was only a few short outside scenes.

3.)It was difficult, in many cases, to figure out where to go next, once your mission was completed (especially true in the office towers). I found that once you completed a mission, some previously locked door or gateway became open, and you had to go back and find it before you were able to proceed on your new task.

4.)You only had access to your 3 most recent saved games; and, as you could only carry three weapons at any one time, it was sometimes difficult to know if you should pick up a new weapon (while discarding another one) just before you were about to change locales forever (where you could not possibly return to without restarting a previously saved game).

5.)No "bosses" to fight, even at the end. A rather dull and anticlimactic finale. "Boss" fights have always been one of my favorite parts of FPSs and I missed them in this game.

6.)And finally, the game has no replay value whatsoever; I can't think of a single mission or scene I'd be remotely interested in replaying again.

All in all, a different type of FPS. If you don't mind the horror aspect, then this is a game you might enjoy.

This game is flawless.. just as good as classics like half life 2,doom 3 and quake 4!!

first of all.. i am a great fan of 3d fps games.. i think these games are the best and the most interactive games out there..
never was really that interested in stratergy or racing games.. these games are just too boring..

F.E.A.R. is one game that really stands out in the fps genre because of its coolness factor, its storyline and of course.. its GUN FIGHT SEQUENCES!!(some of the best slo-mo gunfights ever..MATRIX WHO??!!!)

i actually wanted to get my hands on it the moment i read the reviews and saw the screenshots.. and its even better when you play it..

i have an athlon 3500+, an nvidia geforce 6600 256mb card and 1 gb ram.. exactly what u need to play this game..it runs perfectly (of course an nvidia geforce 7800 is always preferred, for those who can afford it!!)

the slo mo is available throughout the game.. and this is one special power you might wanna use in every single gunfight..
i tried tossing a proximity grenade at a soldier's face and all i could see was a huge sphere of blood, bones and flames.. you actually feel like quick loading the game and doing it over and over again.. high level of detailing and immense gore throughout the game..
but make sure you get the dvd for flawless performance.. it runs without any hitches(thank god!!) and i think my system is not top of the line.. but its good enough.

lets get to the best part.. the guns.. i've played doom 3, half life 2, quake 4 and f.e.a.r. and would rate the following guns on the basis of their style, sounds, reloading actions, damage and on-screen looks in the descending order.. here goes :

1. the particle gun (F.E.A.R.)

the coolest gun i have ever seen.. try shooting 3 soldiers in a row with this gun in slo mo.. and this gun just tears them apart.. the mother of all railguns!! (5 out of 5!!!!!!!!!)

2. dark matter gun (quake 4)

of course the most high end weapon in the game.. and rightly so.. you might wanna reserve your ammo for later.. but as soon as you get your hands on this baby.. you cant help using it.. one of my all time favourites.. more like the bfg 9000 in doom 3.. only way cooler!! 5 out of 5!!

3. plasma gun (doom 3)

this gun might not be the most effective.. but with doom 3 graphics and gameplay.. its an instant favourite. remember the plasma gun in doom 2.. wait till you reload it.. u'll love it!! 4 out of 5!

4. rocket launcher (doom 3)

effective and with a cool realoading action.. you cant compare it with the rocket launchers in quake 4 and half life 2.. its just way too good!!

i just love the guns in fps.. got to play doom 3 and f.e.a.r. long after their release dates.. but am so glad i did.. the amount of visual detailing and thinking that goes into making these guns a visual treat.. pure eye candy.. hats off to the guys at monolith and ID..

getting back to f.e.ar... the story is gripping and scary.. try playing it with the lights off in a dark room (now who would wanna do that??) and you'll know how creepy this game is.. really.. alma just turns up out of nowhere.. blood everywhere.. and those creepy sounds.. oooohh. this game is so much fun!! a true horror FPS classic.. PLEASE PLEASE... DONT MISS IT!!!

GO AND BUY IT RIGHT NOW.. YOU MIGHT NEED TO BUY A NEW PC OR UPGRADE YOUR OLD ONE.. BUT FOR ALL YOU GAMING FREAKS OUT THERE.. ITS WORTH IT!! ABOUT TIME EVERYONE GOT OVER COUNTER STRIKE.. SINGLE PLAYER IS SO MUCH BETTER!!
