I recently bought the game for around 20 bucks and instantly liked it. If youre a gamer you will probably appreciate this title. The storyline is pretty general, no real details or back story to learn. Youre basically this guy who is slaying all of these rock/earth made Colossi for these gods of light to bring a girl back to life. Each Colossus you fight is pretty unique in figuring out how to defeat them. They all have their own kinda of moves and environments. Defeating each one involves figuring out how to actually get on top of them and then finding their weak points. I enjoyed the large environments, subtle but flowing story, and the different types of colossi you encounter. The game is over after the slaying of about 16 colossus, so relatively short. As a gamer Id recommend it as a unique and fun experience, only downside is length of gameplay. For 20$ its worth it- buy it son!

This game is unlike any other game I've ever played, and as such, is a work of art that's highly addictive, incredibly gorgeous and well-animated and a blast to play. The story is well written, and though you won't know much about it until well into the game, is well worth the effort of playing through till the end. This game is a must-buy!

Great game overall. even though it is all about the 16 boss-fights as as cool/fun as they are, there's a bit of downtime where its just you and the environment. now while the environment is gorgeous - one of the best for ps2 games - all there is to do is nav. to each boss. so other than that its fun and doesn't take up too much of your time. still a game you can enjoy, and come back to whenever you'd like to or have the time.
ciao!

Wow, from what I heard about this game, it sounded okay, but were they wrong. This game is very fun to play, and challenging. You might think, "No mini-enemies, just boss fights." But, the bosses can take a while, and smaller enemies would ruin the colossi fights. The third boss took me a half an hour to beat. MOst of that was because I had to get up it first. The graphics are good for a PS2 game, and the music is perfect. Very good game, you just have to be patient, because it is very frustrating sometimes.
Shadow of the Colossus undiscovered truth

Shadow of the Colossus is an incredibly different game. This is an absolute truth whether you hate it or love it. I just so happen to be the latter of course. When I played the game all the way through for the first time I thought that it was interesting but a little dull after playing other games like the zelda series, first person shooters, etc. but the third time through I fell in love with the game.
Believe me when I say that the majority of video games have senseless stories that fail to pull the player in. Althought the cutscenes can be skipped after sitting down and watching the game all the way through it proves to be one of the single most well told stories that I've ever percieved and yet I get to play the hero. I will not disclose the subject matter of the game since that would ruin its beauty but I will tell you that if you pay attention to the story without going on the internet for spoilers then you are in for one of the best cinematic experiences of your life.
Although the game may seem empty with an exception for the colossi if you did have to battle through hordes of ridiculous James Bond-esque henchmen then you would not appreciate what the overall goal of the character actually is.
The graphics of the game project give the player a sense of being swallowed whole by the game itself. The soundtrack to the game works better than most movies. I'd say that the soundtrack is a clear parallel to Braveheart and Gladiator. There is nothing standing in the way from the audience being totally engulfed by this masterpiece except for impatience and stuborness, but if you manage to catch the feel of Shadow then you will be a changed person.
pretty good, not perfect

great game, something new. all the other reviews spell out the game pretty well so i won't waste time describing the game....
it's definitely different, the music gets repetetive during the fights (which are awesome)....
the camera seems like it was a rough draft, could have been tweaked a bit to work a little better...which would make the game a little better. for a game like this you really need spot-on camera work like in prince of persia for example. this camera ain't the best....
character animation is a bit choppy, he runs like an idiot and swims like one as well....looks rediculous.
the game's map is useless but 90% of maps in games are pretty bad lately so i don't think it's a big deal....
definitely worth buying at the used price...i'm only on colossus 3 of 16, getting a bit addictive now. recommended

This graphics in this game are very nice to look at and the detail on the 'bosses' make this a great game to run through more than once.

Shadow of the Colossus is different than any other adventure game you may be familiar with. In a way that exaggerates the epic feel of the game, Shadow of the Colossus cuts straight to the point. There is no mini bosses and no dungeons just you and the colossus. Each is more of a puzzle than a traditional boss fight. You have to figure out how to approach their different weaknesses and each colossus is a unique challenge.
Some people feel that there isn't enough plot, if you feel that way I recommend following it up with ICO which the spiritual sequel to Colossus.

Shadow of the Colossus is probably one of the most amazing games I ever played. Not only is the game so massive in proposition and breathe-taking beautiful in landscape, but the game play is astounding and wonderful.
It seems as if the game was adapted from the Aztecs, or ancient Mexican/Southern American cultural. For your main character not only travels through landscape that charmingly reminds you of the great ruins of the Aztecs, Maya and Inca societies. But the character himself seems to have come from those type of societies himself. Mountains tower high above, landscape stretches endlessly before you as you set out on your quest to bring your dead love back to life by defeating these titanic, ancient giants.
While on your quest, you cannot expect to walk on your own two feet just to get where the Colossi are. You have a very loyal companion named Agro, a black, "Andalusian-looking-horse," that carries you across hundreds of miles of land just to reach where the Colossi are. The horse is also VERY realistic. From how you make it walk, canter or gallop, by kicking it's flanks, the more you kick, the faster Agro will go. Also if you are galloping Agro and suddenly leap off a very large crag, your horse will land below, stumble and maybe even fall (causing you to tumble off into the dust) and the horse may even limp for a few seconds before it fully recovers and waits for you to remount.
You can also call Agro from a distance, causing the horse to come to you in an "almost," eagered fashion. The horse may continuously follow you around loyally, but if you stand still long enough, the horse will wander off on it's own, and may even start to graze. If you move away from him, Agro will come running back to you. Also, Agro is very smart. If you gallop him towards the edge of a cliff, Agro will rear back and take you in the opposite direction, therefore saving you and him from tumbling over the edge and into the oblivion. Later on in the game (once you beat all the sixteen Colossus) you can obtain a new horse (brown, and even white) by defeating special levels you obtain.
Now on to the Colossi themselves. There are sixteen Colossi in all, and each one you battle, the harder they are to defeat. Before you fight them, you have to find them. By doing this, you raise you sword up and it will show a beam of light, a path to follow to the Colossi. Once you reach one, you battle it by using certain methods to get on the Colossi and stabbing it with your sword where blue, glowing markings are. Sometimes there are more than one (blue glowing markings), and you have to hang on at times when the Colossi tries to knock you off. You can only hang on for a certain amount of time, which makes it quite difficult to defeat them. Some walk on land, fly in the sky, climb up structures, run into you at high speed, and swim. It's your job to figure out how to defeat them, and once you defeat one you are transported back to the temple where you started, and receive some advice about the next one from a "spirit-like," being.
Your character also changes throughout the game, and not only with his life and agility. But after defeating so many Colossus, his hair changes color, from red to black. He also get's new clothing to wear, like special cloaks and new weapons to use, which can be unlocked in Time Attack after you beat all sixteen Colossus. So just because you beat the game, doesn't mean it's over just yet. There is much more to this game than would originally meet the eye. And while many claim it to be pointless and a waste of time, I see it at a whole diffrent level. It's not about epic quest with battle after battle of mini bosses and wasteful fiends only put there to boost your HP up. The game just get's straight to the point, which is nice and freash to me after playing many other games similar to that basic make-up, (like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4, and the Final Fantasy series) not that thouse games are bad...
The plot is simply: Defeat all sixteen Colossus to save your girlfriend. But that's not the only thing, your tribe or people show up, apparently looking for you. You will figure out why later on in the game.
The game is very fun, and not that hard once you figure out how to beat the Colossi. I recommend this game to anyone who likes a challenge. But if you don't like traveling across endless landscape for hours and battling a Colossi for even more time, than this isn't the game for you. But if you don't mind that, than give Shadow of the Colossus a try.
