Too much talking

Great game for people who would like to see Onimusha1 and Final Fantasy combined.

Improvements were definately intended on character interaction. The games story line is greatly based on how you trade special items with the other four characters in the game. I've finished the game twice but I've yet to unlock all of the side stories with the other characters. Personally I think this detracts from the game but my wife, who loves the long Final Fantasy stories, loved trying to figure out how to open all the side stories. Some of the side stories do add a lot to the game, I just didn't like spending so much time trying to unlock them all.(I usually hand the controller to my wife whenever the game switches from action to game plot ;-)

If you don't mind talking to all the characters in the game two or three times, then you'll probably love this game. The action and graphics are much better than the first Onimusha. There's also a couple new weapons that add significantly. (The War Hammer kicks @$$) Although the game is still too short, if you liked Onimusha 1 like I did then you'll probably love this game.
Disclaimer: I bought and played the Japanese version of Onimusha2 which may be different than the American release.

Hope!!!!

I hope it is like the last one with one change, MAKE IT LONGER. I know that there was a point to making it that short but come on. Make it worth $49.99 like FFX not $39.99. Looking at the preview in OW1 This could have the making of a great game. I think the game play will be simular to the last one, but not sure. OW1 was the first game that I played on the PS2 so it will always be one of the best in my mind and I hope that capcom will do the same for Onimusha 2, can't wait. Plus I can't give a game that I have not played 5 stars, just if your thinking about it.

Although this game has not yet been released, I did play it for a brief while in a gaming store, and I was hooked. I am basically an RPG fan, and although I usually play those games, this game intrigued me right away. The graphics are exceptional, and the storyline is very entertaining, but my one problem with the game was the controls. They were very awkward and made it hard to move the main character. Despite this however, I think that the game is definately worth buying.

The Most Awesome Game Ever

I just got Onimusha 2 yesterday, and I must say, it is my favorite game ever (tied with Devil May Cry). It is much like the original Onimusha, but there are several changes.

1. The graphics are AMAZING. They are extremely well done. The scenery and the character are very detailed making the game seem almost photorealistic. I think it's safe to say that these are the best graphics to be found on the PS2.

2. This game takes after Devil May Cry sort of. This time around, Onimusha 2 has purple souls in addition to blue, yellow and red. The purple souls act much like Devil Trigger counters. Once you collect 5 purple souls, you automatically turn into Onimusha for a short period of time. As Onimusha, you change appearance, glow purple, are invincible, and benefit from faster and stronger attacks. Unfortunately, Onimusha mode lasts for a very limited time, so you dont want to pick up that 5th purple soul unless you are around a lot of guys, because otherwise it is a waste. Purple souls aren't too common either.

3. Cutscenes. I have to say that there are more cutscenes than in the original. Although there aren't as many as, say, Metal Gear Solid 2, there are a fair amount.

4. You can play as some of the other characters for short periods of time, and you benefit from their specialty attacks while you play as them. Of course, they will also follow you around at times when you play as Jubei (main character).

5. Fights are much more awesome looking than in the original Onimusha, with better attacks and special attacks.

So there's a little bit about the game. I'll end with a list of Pros and Cons.

Pros:
Amazing graphics
Awesome Onimusha mode
More weapons that you can level-up than in the original

Cons:
Onimusha mode very short
I have not beat the game, but there are a lot of tedious cut scenes
Tedious trading

GREAT GAME BUT WAY TOO SHORT!

Let me start of by saying that this game is too short. I beat it in a day and a half of having it, and I'm not one to sit on couch and play until my eyes glow. Luckily the store I bought it from allows full returns within 48 hours. Besides that, this game rocks! The graphics are much improved from the first and the play is just as easy as number one. I would recommend this game to all who loved the first, just know that the game does not have a long life of play.

If you can get past this this and this you'll love it

I wrote a review for this game when i first starting playing it, only after I played it halfway through.

I retracted my earlier statements because I realized how wrong I really was. The BIGGEST flaw in this game is simply some of the Plot. Its a simple undriven seek revenge and save the world type story. I also have to say it starts off quite strong, but from then on it dives at a MADDENING pace. By the time you finish it, you'll be thinking you were a fool to buy it.

The Multi-character system is one of the few real ups of this game. Every so often your in jam, or fighting a boss, or simply trading with one of these guys (or gals), and you find yourself saying, "...you people are awesome". They aren't weak, and they are smart... They work with you, not against you like some games do, and every so often you get to be one of them. They aren't lame in any sense of the word either, theya are well rounded bad... guys that all have their own backgrounds and subplots.

The Controls ARE NOT THAT BAD. I find them actually quite smooth. Every so often you'll do something you didnt want to do, but every once in a while you'll finding yourself do something you did want to do but not in the way you wanted to do it. They are excellent at times, and provide everything you'll ever need.

The Graphics in game are just beautifully. Character designs and facial features are some of the best in games I've ever seen. They depict real people at times, and often times you find yourself thinking "wow that guy looks awesome". The game does tend to regurgitate some previous environments from the first game, but they aren't that bad. You get a sense of nostalgia about it.

The games enemies seem to lack sometimes though. Sometimes they are ultra cool looking, and some times they just are simple lizards that are just plain annoying after a while. Some of the larger enemies are devastating and ruthless, and its fun to devise a method of approaching them.

The Bosses are also lacking. This game heavily rips off Devil May Cry at times, with virtual equivalents of many characters. The reappearance of annoying bosses that are either lame, weak, cheap or just plain annoying is so repetetive at times.

The game's gots some cool points, but none of them are where they should be. Its an ok game for the fans of the genre, and if your looking for a Devil May Cry fix you might just get it. But if your looking for deep insight into an ancient world of demons and swordsmen, you won't find it here, instead you'll find a sad game that with some more patience, could have been so promising.
