This is a very mixed review. This game is the most beautifully appealing game on the PS2 so far. The characters, effects and backgrounds are great! The story is good. These characters have personalities and histories.
HOWEVER, the biggest detractor from the game is its poor control and camera. This is THE WORST game control I've seen for this level of a game. The D-Pad is clumsy and distracting... I grew tired of watching an awesome samurai bump into walls etc. The camera angles make it even worse.
If the controls were better or customizable, this game would get 5 stars!
In order to get through this game, you'll need the patience of a Zen master.
Great game But Part one is better!!!!!

This game is great but it isn't as good as the first Onimusha in my opinion.
First of all ther is no "block" button like in the first one.
You are expected to deflect your enemy's attack with your sword by hitting them as they attack.
second there are way too many lame short useless cutscenes.
third Onimusha mode is useless becuase it lasts about three seconds, and there is no way to lengthen it.
The story is kind of lame too.
the voice acting is pretty bad in some places and the fact that there are cutscenes every five minutes is irritating.
If you liked the first one this one will be worth owning.
but part one is still way better even though it is missing some things this game has.
Onimusha is Kewl

This game has got great grafix and amazing cut seans (although there are only about four cut seans with the super computer grafix) they are worth working to see. Tjis game has what looks like real photo backgrounds, although some cannot be for they have like zombie bones and stuff like in caves. If you view the people from a good distance, they actually look REAL! This game has some of the bast grafix i have seen in a game. But, gigimfats, a boss you must kill an annoying three times through the game has some werd grafix. He acts like he has that moving desease. But... the down side is that the talking is werd. When it shows a close up of a characters face as they talk, there mouth moves werd. By the way, Jubei, the main character, says the other characxters name to much. For example: when Katoro, another character, is talking, Jubei says, "Kotaro." then when kotoro is almost done jubei says "Katoro!" and nodes his head. Then kotaro finished and runs off. Jubei finally says: "Katoro," and he watches him run off. Thats how annoying it is. Well overall the game is great. I would give it a four and a half, but thats not an option, :)
Oh ya, and just to tell ya, the water grafix are REAL clips of rivers of beaches. Trust me, its real. They added a splash affect on the water to make it look like they made it, but it has no effect on the water, not even little drop waves. So that proves it. In conclusion, this game rocks. it is defenitly worth buying. C ya!
The first one is still better

This game suffers from "bad sequel syndrome", failing to match the original's epic feel, while providing a rather chaotic and foolish plot, and spoiling the game's environment with out of place futuristic anachronisms.
The story isn't all that good. Its like almost all games. Your hometown was destroyed and now you want revenge, blah, blah, blah. They could have done better.Onimusha 2 was pointless. The characters (Good guys and bad) were very annoying and stupid. The story, the scenes, the gift exchange, the beginning and the ending were very stupid and cheesy. Samanosuke was a much better main character. Samanosuke acted more like how a Samurai would and should act.
Jubie was dull and acting too much like a badass who just wanted revenge. Where have I seen that kind of character many times before???? And the story has it where he somehow falls in love with someone whom he only know for a few minutes. That's what I hate about video games sometimes. They have characters falling in love with each other way way too fast. The fact that there was nothing like that between Samanosuke and Kaede in Oni 1 made that story all the more better.
Onimusha 2 didn't really do anything. I figured either Jubei was going to be key to this story or at least he would have successfully done away with Nobunaga. But I'm he didn't because the real Jubei never fought or met Nobunaga. When I look at the previews it looks like they could have just skipped 2 and moved on the 3 without any loss of story at all. My question is, was there a know point to Onimusha 2 or will we have to wait until 3 comes out to find out?????
Well after playing Oni 3 I can tell you now there wasn't a point to Jubei or anything that happen in Oni 2. His name is only mention once and that's it.
And I thought this was feudal Japan, what's with the mechanical horse, boat, glider, air ship, lasers bombs etc. I'm sorry not in 1570. With Oni 1 there was a well combine of fact and fiction, but Oni 2 was just crazy.
Thank you Capcom for bringing Samanosuke back!!!!!!! And thank you Capcom for not bringing back Jubei!!!!!
forgettable sequel to onimusha

i loved onimusha. i hated onimusha 2. an utter waste of time and money, and i bought it for only 9.99. when i got to the final boss battle, i couldn't help but think 'this is it?' then i tried beating nobunaga a half dozen times or so, but couldnt since i used all my healing items and magic replenishers going into the purple phantom realm. if i had known that the final boss was right after i would have skipped it and whipped him good. so i finished the purple phantom realm and was hurt irreparably and only got some dinky sword. what a tur%. since i completed the whole game on normal i wasn't about to drop to easy mode just to beat the last boss. so i tossed the cd-rom in the garbage, something i had thought about doing quite a few times before as the game never started, and never really got going. a game without a soul. but there were a couple of pretty places with some nice graphics, that is the only positive.

Dissapointing

The first Onimusha was a lot of fun but this one is sort of a bust. Half of the playtime is spent retracing the steps of the first game and killing the same monsters. The fighting is just as fun and satisfying, but for some reason, the collection of souls (which if you don't know, levels-up your character) is very tedious--battling these same enemies and recycled bosses quickly becomes boring.
There is an attempt to make the game more dynamic by including the exchange of "gifts". These are items you buy or find and give to other characters for rewards. These rewards can be more gifts to give away, or health items and weaponry, but in the end, this process seems like a drawn-out way of getting the much needed health-boosts and extra items that are in very short supply throughout the game. You also get a lot of junk.
At the very least, this is a nice distraction if you're sitting at home and wanting to veg out, but I suggest that you rent or buy it instead of paying full-price.
I think it is the best!!!

This game is a really good one. I have 11 games and this is the best one. It is short but it is worth the cost, I beat it 4 day after I got it. Like I said before, it is really worth the cost. I recommend it to any one that likes RPG games (role playing games)
ONE OF THE...OTHER BEST GAMES FOR PS2

Onimusha 2 is capcom's attempt to capitalize on Onimusha 1. There is very little differences b/w one and two. In fact the game is easier than before and could be completed in one day. I would strongly discourage buying this game due to following...
- Half the game locations in 2 is reused from one.
- Very few level bosses (fight same bosses 3 times)
- Game is too easy...if you've played the original Onimusha one.
- Very few CG cut scenes.
- Not many new monsters. Some monsters are reused from Onimusha one, and many others are slightly modified from the original.
- No graphic improvements.
- Nothing Innovative. Exchanging gifts with other characters is waste of time.
The game is still fun to play but for those anxiously waiting for the sequal would be very dissapointed. Onimusha 2 is a half-... attempt to rush out a sequal inorder to make money. Rent it instead.
