I'm not a kid writing a review but a 29 year old who has played more computer games in the last year then most do in a life time.
Not putting down the young but this game is clearly geared toward a younger generation. Why? Well, lets say that I bought Rome Total War and comparing the two there is no comparison?
This game is just a overgrown arcade game not a true RTS. It does not even compare to RTW or MTW or even Ages of Empires which was released in the mid nineties! Come on EA Games! Activision has the upper-hand when it come to true RTS stradegy!!!!
I know, this is just my opinion but if you are a true gamer and a avide RTS player you will not like this game at all!!! I would go into the game play but it is not even worth it to me or my typing figures. Very disapointed in this game! It lacks everything that makes a RTS great. Most of these great reviews are just kids (no offense) but they don't really understand or have the taste for true RTS stradegy why? It is tooooooooo complicated for them (no offense again) but they are just not mature enough to understand a hardcore stradegy game including economy up-keep, technology tree advancements, and your faction stats including managing money etc. that is in RTW/MTW and if they do have RTW they probably let the computer manage all this for them? If not, they are very advanced for there age and are sure to achieve greatness later in life. At that age I didn't even have a clue about stradegy and played Mario Brothers on my Nitendo (the first version kiddies!!!)
If you compare LOTRBFME to the great RTS games that have came out recently there is no comparison simply put! If you want a good RTS game *(the best that I've played thus far) get Rome: Total War (do not buy this pieace of software junk) it's for the kiddies!
Slightly different RTS

This game is very well done and true to the LOTR saga. It is not a step-by-step repetition of the story, of course, but overall you get the feel. However, in the end it is just another RTS.
An interesting feature is that you keep your army from battle to battle. If you take good care of it, you can have a respectable force formed by hardy veterans with all the upgrades available.
At first I didn't like the lack of variety of troops for each faction, but later I realized that it is true to the saga. Why are there no dwarves for instance, only Gimli? I asked. Well, in the book/movie Gimli was the only dwarf involved in the War of the Ring. In the game Rohan is mostly about cavalry (riders). Well that is because in LOTR Rohan is practically riders and nothing else!

I am the purchaser's son (26 year's old).
My little brother requested this game. Ever since I began playing it, I am intrigued by the complex plot (beyond that of the movie). I am also very impressed by the very ingenious special powers and various controls over the game that players can have (ie healing, planting forests, controlling ents, controlling attack type, gandalf's special power's, eomer's resource stealing, etc).

Battle for Middle-Earth is a fun game, nearly everything I thought it would be. Not exacly the high king of games, but still pretty cool. I liked the fact that in this game, the different armies you can control have different units or creatures you can create. In other games I have, the armies are exactly the same, just different colors. My favorite army is Isengard, because I can control Uruk-Hai.I also like to use
calvary and large creatures because they can go straight through
nearly anything else.I the only things I don't like about the game doesn't have much to do with the actual game, just that the graphic chip on my computer doesn't work too well.
!!!AMAZING!!!

This is the BEST strategy game in a loooong time!! I'm 11, so I am really a game freak who's played a lot of bad games-I know a good game when I play one. This game is very addicting. The thing I like about it is that once you start a battle, you can get right into the action. It took me 1-2 days to get all of the controls and key shortcuts memorized so be patient. Personally, I strongly recommend you keep the detail on very low, the game has a vast world and a lot of different fields. Definitely a 5 out of 5 MASTERPIECE! Also, last time I checked, I saw the price on the game go down **Hint Hint, opportunity!!**
Excellent game. Thoroughly enjoyed by 10 and 13 year old boys.

A great game that follows Lord of the Rings trilogy almost perfectly. Kids who have read the books or seen the movies will especially enjoy this game.

Don't get me wrong I really like this game but after while, it gets boring. Here are a few things that aren't so good...
#1 There are only 4 factions. (Rohan Gondor Isengard Mordor)
#2 There are only 4-5 different units per faction.
#3 It is EXTREAMLY simple. You bulid buildings that just automatically collect "rescources" and use "rescources" for everything. (buildings, units, heroes, ect.)
#4 You have limited building space. There are little circles that you click on to build a building.
#5 Possibly the worst part of the game is that it is UNBALANCED X'S 1000000!!!!! IF your the good guys it's IMPOSSIBLE TO LOSE!!! You just close your gate and put archers on the walls. TADA!!! YOU WIN!!!
But if your a big LOTR fan you will love this game.

Rushed, they didn't even beta test it, and they only internally playtested it, and it shows.
HORRIBLE AI, sloppy unit movement, poor controls, and lackluster gameplay highlight this title. Worst of all, most of the gameplay is copied from Kohan and Kohan2, and doesn't even measure up to those games!
Poor, avoid it.
