Decent, but Deception is better

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 1

Mortal Kombat's triumphant return with "Deadly Alliance" leaves somewhat of a sour taste leftover. The plus side is fatalities are easy to execute, however, each character only has one fatality, and some are downright silly. Deception plays the same as this game, but has a much better Konquest mode, better characters, and more fatalities. I only reccomend getting this if you want to play as Quan Chi, Kitana, Shang Tsung, Sonya Blade, Jax, or Raiden without his new "dark look" in deception. Or you could just...you know, wait for MK Armageddon to come out, which is a long way off.

RIDICULOUSLY GORRY!

The graphics on this game are good. The combinations are difficult to execute. The fatalities are a little lame, not as good as previous ones. Excessive use of blood and guts for each contact. They do have a feature where you can minimize the amount of gore, but their lowest level (just above completely turning off the gore) is still over done. But overall a pretty good game.

Wow!!!

This game is definitely one of the best games I have ever played in my life. I have always played fighting games, from the first Street Fighter to the new and improved Tekken 4, but Mortal Kombat has something all the other games don't have, Fatalities. I have been a MK fan since the first installment of the series in the early 90's. This game has it all, well not all. This MK doesn't have the brutalities, the second fatality, the animality, and the stage-fatalities we grew to love in the other previous games, but it compensates with special features like the Krypt, Conquest, Extras, etc... I was a little disappointed when I found that each player had only one Fatality or that most of the old school fighters had lost some of there old school moves. However when you play the game and see the level of difficulty it takes to master each character with their different fighting styles, (Most players have 2 fighting, 1 weapon style), you can almost forget about thoese missing links. This makes it a very challenging game. Also after finishing the game with most of the players, you can suspect that there will be another installment of the game with a bigger more dangerous enemy, the Dragon King, and maybe then we will see does fatalities that we so desperately crave. I definitely recommend this game to anybody that is a Mortal Kombat fan. You won't regret it.

I shall speak of the truth

This game has to be the best fighting genre game for PS2 to date. With the addition of a very helpful walk through of each fighting move, and a move list (every move name + how to do it) at your fingertips every match (just press start -> move list), it helps a "novice combo button-presser" enjoy this game. It even tells you how to do each person's special moves.

I have read some negative reviews from people who dislike the fact some people who died in the movies have returned for this sequel, but I think what they are saying is a bunch Mortal Kombat Krap. I enjoy seeing them/playing with them-the more to choose from, the better. The weapon style of fighting is mighty good as well, and the fact you can change from fighting style to fighting style during the match is also quite swell. And did I read in one review: "no classic uppercut"? Are you joking? I'm pretty sure almost every character (if not all) have the uppercut for a possible move)

The new characters are funny, interesting, and....great i guess. It's got a nice amount of blood too (Press R2 in weapon mode to stab foe and leave weapon in opponent's body...it slowly takes their life way-It's quite funny). Just play it. Take it from me, the "terrible combo button-presser", you will like it.

I agree with that absolute disgrace review

When I saw this game in the commercials, I thought oh this game must be great. I do love all the mortal kombats that have come out so far. I'm 17 and remember playing the first mortal kombat in the arcades, and followed the series ever since. I also love Mortal Kombat 1 the movie.

I really reccommend you rent this game before you buy it. From my own opinion I thought the creators of this game were trying to be original by adding a different fighting style. But I think thats the major thing that ruined this game.

I love Virtua Fighter 4 and reccommend you get that game instead of this. It took me a while to get used to Virtua Fighter 4 though, at first I was thinking that game was terrible. But its one of those games where the more you play it the more you like it.

The ultimate in all fighting games

this is one game that will change the way of all fighting games in the future...but the true question is will this game shape up to all the recent fighting games that came out recently like Tekken 4 and Virtua fighter 4. I think it will and I say it will beat upcoming fighting games like Dragonball Z Budokai and others which I haven't even scoped yet. I own this game and all I really have to say is I can't find nothing wrong with this game and well I give it a 10 but all I can give it on here is a 5, but u get the idea...

nice game

When I bought my boyfriend PS2 for Christmas, this was the first game I brought to accompany it. Soon, I was in on the action as well! The 3D graphics are incredible-very detailed. I like the different fighting combos as well as the locations the fights take place in. Some of the characters combos are kinda difficult (i.e. Subzero), but for the most part, this game is so much fun. The fatalities are back, more gruesome than ever. Overall, this game is definately a must have!

Best MK Game Ever!

MK Deadly Alliance

MK Deadly Alliance was the first game I purchased after acquiring a PS2. I wanted something that had considerable replay value. I had always been a fan of Mortal Kombat and believed that MKDA would deliver as well as it's predessesors. I can say that I was not dissappointed. Now, this is not to say that I don't have complaints and I'll get to those in a moment. First, I would like to comment on what I enjoyed about MK: Deadly Alliance.

To start, I believe the addition of the Konquest and Krypt modes was an excellent idea, although Konquest did become a bit tedious at times. The Krypt mode was darn near addictive. There was just something about winning money to open those coffins. Also, the Kontent section was nice because you could go and view your "purchases" any time you wished. Some of the items were of great interest. The main feature, Kombat itself, was also very enjoyable. The addition of different fighting styles and alternate costumes was a relief as I have never thought much of the original "mirror match". The multiple style/costume feature allows two players to pick the same character and still have significant differences in style and appearance. One caveat I would add however is that the edition of the weapons style gives those "cheesy" folks more ammunition. Now, the characters themselves, with a few exceptions, never looked better. Sub-Zero's ninja costume and both of Scorpion's costumes made these two franchise favorites really stand out as never before. Other notable appearance upgrades would include: Jax, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Kitana, and Kano. Most of the others were only so-so while a couple were down right awful such as Reptile's over-all appearance. I was a big fan of Reptile in MK 2 but I couldn't even stand to see him across the arena from me in Deadly Alliance. Having said this, I will now address some of the things I did not like about this game.

The most glaring mistake by the makers of Deadly Alliance in my mind is with the fatalities or lack thereof. In Mortal Kombat 1-3 the game had progressed to each character having multiple fatalities and even other options such as friendships and animalities, not to mention the presence of stage fatalities. In Deadly Alliance, we have none of this. Just one measely fatality per character. This is, in my opinion, almost inexcusable for the makers of this game. The fatalities is one of the major points of the game that elevated it to the status that the franchise enjoys. How they could down-play this aspect of the game is bewildering. Add to this the fact that the fatalities that you do have for each character are just not up to par with fatalities of past Mortal Kombat games. With the graphics capabilities that was taken advantage of in other parts of the game this is, again, inexcusable.

Now, overall I feel that this is still a great game. The story line was as interesting as any previous entry in the MK universe and the overall game play was superb. I would definately recommend adding MK Deadly Alliance to anyone's library.
