Awesome Game , Must Buy

I have played all of the other MKs and this one tops them all. The graphics are great . They have most of the old characters and some great new ones. You can get alt. costumes for each character. The game has this thing called, "The Krypt." It is a huge place with coffins that have prizes in them such as new characters , alt. costumes , videos , pictures , new arenas and more. There are 676 coffins to open so you can play this game on and on. The arcade is the same , but they added stories at the end of each time you win an arcade. To get to open the coffins you have to get a certain number of coins for each coffin and a certain color. Depending on what skill level you are on you can get more coins as the game goes on. The types of coins are, sapphire(blue),jade(green), onyx(black), ruby(red), gold , and platinum(white). You have to play an arcade to get coins. You can make a profile with a secret code and a codename. The game still has quest but called konquest. Also when you buy the game you can se the music video for the theme song for MK:DA. And they show the progress they have made with all the MKs.You can play two player. You can also just practice. The fatalities for this game is awesome. They have so much blood and and cool ways to do it. This is one of the best fighting games for ps2. I highly reccomend this game. You won't be dissapointed.

A solid effort with some uncertainties

Stylistically, this game is a fine round of mixology....there are sprinklings of Tekken/Virtua Fighter, yes, but they never overwhelm the gameplay so much it feels ripped-off. For the look of the characters, first off, some do look a little cartoonish (Sonya's victory pose is definitely NOT one of this game's strong points, as others have pointed out, as it makes her look like a barbie doll). In spite of this, they all move very fluidly, are animated well, and the attention to detail is exquisite.

With all previous mortal kombats, there was a 20/80 mix as far as reality/fantasy was concerned. That is to say, some of the things you could do in those games you would see in real life, but the majority were complete fantasy (i.e. every character's fireball moves). MK:DA enhances things by sprinkling in a more realistic touch by giving all the characters stances/punches and kicks developed from actual martial arts. This gives a feeling that, while so many things are ridiculously impossible (like continuing to fight with a sword stuck in your chest), there is still some element of what could actually be seen in the real world amidst all the fantasy. It may not stir everyone's interest, but to me it is a welcome addition.

As far as fatalities, I agree there could be more, but I also believe some restraint is a good thing. After the souped-up excess of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, boasting a whopping 7 "-alities" per character, and some of them getting just TOO silly by that point (to be expected, I wouldn't want to try and cook up that many different things for that large a cast of characters), some trimming was needed....finding the right amount between enough and excessive is no easy task, and while I think they could have done better, what's offered is reasonable for what else is offered.

In all, a sound purchase for fighting game fans and those who thought Mortal Kombat dead, it is very much alive in this game.

Best MK Game EVER!!!!!!

This game is awesome... There is so much to do, new people, many things to unlock, journeys... Most of all, it's very challenging. They have new people, Johnny Cage and Reptile are back, and Liu Kang... has been killed. At the beginning of the game, it shows a small movie of how Shang Tsung and Quan Chi have made an alliance. They kill Liu Kang and Shao Kahn in order to be the most powerful sorcerers ever. It is awesome. Buy it NOW!

Dont know what these guys are talking about? Me Either.

I'll keep this short. Anyone who has played Mortal Kombat in the past, couldnt wait to get thier hands on this . True enough we all expected a little more than we got but Mortal Kombat is A game that keeps you coming back. And when there is a MK after this ,Im sure i will buy it too. Love the characters and the moves. All these people complaining about the realism need to understand that if you want so much realism..Turn off the game

Almost great

Mortal Kombat: DA is a very good all around fighting game. Unfortunately, it is not much like the other MK games in a couple of crucial ways. First, this MK goes mainly for combos and fighting styles (very cool, everybody has 2 fighting styles and on weapon style) that are all different and entertaining, but each character has only 2 or 3 special moves. One of the greatest things about most of the MK games was all the great special moves you could pull off. That was one of the things that set it apart from all the other games, now it's just a bloody version (very bloody) of tekken. The other shortcoming is the fatalities. In a word, [crummy]. I have yet to see one that is not horribly lame and each character has only one fatality (that I know of). Just as bad, there are no stage-specific fatalities (no bridge over a spike pit, not only the first, but still my personal favorite).

However, as much as I'm ripping on the game, it still has some great qualities that more than make up for its shortcomings. As previously mentioned, the fighting styles are a great addition, and the ability some characters have to stab an opponent and leave in the blade is endlessly amusing. Also, the crypt (the place where you buy stuff like characters and little extras with koins you make during the game) is also pretty nice, and the fact that there are 676 things to buy (though some are empty) makes that part of the game take some time as well.

All in all, it is a very amusing game, fun to play, but killing people in it just isn't the same as back in the day.

Great fighting game for older gamers

This mature title is a fighting game really meant for adults only. The amount of blood spilled per fight is simply amazing. I'm not sure that a body actually HAS that much blood in it!

First off, it's a great fighting game that is available on all of the major platforms. You can play single player or against a friend, and you hack, slash and impale in a variety of arenas with a variety of characters.

Like all other games in this style, you can choose from a limited number of characters first (in this one about 10) and then as you go you unlock the other 10 characters. You can unlock arenas and alternate outfits and other items as well, including artwork.

The unlocking is all done through earning money. Each set of wins you achieve gives you cash. You can then go down and open koffins (there are HUNDREDS of them) and each one does something. It's really good to find a website to get the printout of koffins! Many are simply empty, but some give you great items or extra cash. You can easily rack up lots of money if you know which koffins to open.

The graphics are great, and the fighting is good. The arenas have great detail and each character's moves are very fluid. Each character has 3 styles they can cycle through, and a number of moves in each one. I have heard some people complain that there are only a few finishing moves, but really, that's just the one final blow in the fight. We hardly noticed in our gameplay.

A fun fighting game for those who enjoy the genre, but not for young kids! The huge volumes of blood pouring out of the bodies is a bit much, and the game definitely emphasizes the violence of fighting.

This is by far the best fighting game on the market today. The 3 fighting systems make the game fun for litterally hours. The fatalities are new and even bloodier than in MK4. This is a purchase that you MUST make!

when the original MK came out back in the early 90's, it was groundbreaking and everyone knew it was like the next big thing. Now its 2003 and the 5th (allthough there were many very unsuccesful MK games between) Mortal Kombat is now out. And I'm not really that impressed. Yeah the graphics are light years ahead of the the others and the there are weapons and the each fighter has two fighting styles. But the MK franchise just seems used up. The new game doesnt really deliver anything new or exciting, like the original. I found myself bored with the 1 player aspect of the game VERY quickly when it just turned into a frantic button mashing fest as I tried to destroy my oppenent. In the first round it is very easy to beat the other guy but in the second round they sometimes become incredibly strong, using moves and kombos they never used in the first round. the 2 player aspect of the game is also a mash fest, but funner because you are with a real person.
the bottom line is that this is an OK fighting game and its obvious that that the MK team is never going to revolutionize the game world like it did over ten years ago.

Bloody good

Undoubtadly the best and most innovative Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance takes the long running fighting franchise to new heights. Unlike the pseudo-3-D Mortal Kombat 4, Deadly Alliance is the real deal: filled with lush backgrounds, realistic looking fighters, and buckets of blood, Deadly Alliance is the technological breakthrough that fans of the series have waited years for. Although it has a few faults (Liu Kang is dead, the storyline is weak compared to storylines in past installments of the game), Deadly Alliance still offers loads of value. Plenty of new fighters are introduced (Kenshi, Bo' Rai Cho, Drahmin, Frost, Hsu Hao, Li Mei, Mavado, Nitara, and Moloch), as well as bringing back old favorites (Cyrax, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kano, Kitana, Kung Lao, Quan Chi, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Sonya, and Sub-Zero). The older fighters have been given complete makeovers, and they all look phenominal (Sub-Zero's new look is a real highlight). Each fighter has 2 different fighting styles, and one other style which includes a weapon; this feature is a welcome addition to the franchise and is pulled off almost flawlessly. Also included besides the standard Arcade mode is the Konquest mode in which you go on various missions and earn Koins which you can use to purchase all kinds of hidden items (characters, costumes, arenas, production designs, etc.) in the Krypt. Also included is an interesting video timeline on the history of Mortal Kombat, footage of the making of the game, and a video for Adema's "Immortal". All in all, Mortal Kombat fans around the world rejoice, this is the game we have all been waiting for.

The Best Kombat Yet?

Since its debut in the early 90's, Mortal Kombat has been famous for its large arsenal of intriguing characters and the rich, immerse background each one has, as well as being infamous for the blood that flies out of your opponent after simply punching them in the arm. With each new game, new characters have been introduced, but the main objective has always been the same: kill everyone until you get to the boss, then kill him, too. The objective is no different here, and it's still fun as ever.

This is the first MK game to not feature Liu Kang as a playable character, but I don't think anyone really liked him to begin with anyway. Quan Chi and good ole' Shang Tsung have formed an alliance together (coinsidentily, a DEADLY alliance) and with their combined power bring down the reigning Shao Kahn. With Tsung gathering souls to put into the long dead Dragon Army and reserrect the army to take over the Earth, their alliance seems unstopable. Until Raiden finds out, and you can probably figure out what he does...

That's right! He tells a bunch of people. Some classic, some brand new. On the good side, there's characters such as (and these are only a few) Jax, Sonya, Johnny Cage, the humerous Bo' Bai Cho, Sub-Zero, Frost and Katana. On the evil side, there's (this is still only a few) the two sorcerers, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, as well as Reptile with a brand new look, Kano, Mavado, and way more. Even a vampire has been introduced. But if you're like me, none of this even matters, and you just need Scorpion. And he's here, in all his hellish yellow glory.

Also new to this game are the three different fighting styles posessed by each character. You can fight in one stance for a while, until the computer you're fighting aganist (if you're playing in arcade) starts prediciting all your moves because they have already been used on him. When that happens, just change styles. Some styles are weak but fast, some are slow but powerful. But the most fun style is definetly the weapon, which each character has. This was introduced in MK4, so you probably know how it works, except this time your weapon can't be knocked out of your hand and you can't pick weapons up off the ground. That's good, if you ask me. A lot less hassle. Weapons include Sub-Zero's ice blade, Scorpion's ninja sword, Raiden's staff, Bo' Bai Cho's walking stick, Cyrax's beam sword, Kano's butterflies, Johnny Cage's nun chucks (yeah, I know that's now how you spell it), and more. As I said before, each fighter has a weapon.

Also, during each fight and mini-challenge you have, as well as each time you complete a mission in Konquest (I'll explain later), you earn coins of whatever color. There's red, blue, orange, onyx, jade, etc. When you get enough coins, you can go down to a place called "The Krypt" and purchase coffins for different prices. There's all kinds of things to unlock in the coffins, such as levels, new characters to play as, videos, etc. You'll find if you want to play as a classic character like Reptil or Raiden, you'll have to purchase their coffin, first.

Now, about Konquest. It's a new feature in which you choose a character and have to complete 10 missions with them, learning about their special attacks and fighting styles along the way. You earn coins for each completed mission. That's basically it. Fun to do and cool to read the stories that it tells about them.

I highly suggest you check this game out if you've enjoyed any MK game in the past, and if you're one of the extremely few people who have never played a MK game before, this is a nice place to start.
