Best fighting game out there

There are basically 2 types of fighting games out therem the ones that require a lot of stradgy (Virtua Fighter 4, Bushido Blade) and Button Mashers (Tekken, Dragon Ball Z Boudoki). For most gamers they are one or the other. Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance however is a first, in what I mean is that it is both a button masher and a stradgy style. Let me explain.
Each Kombatant has 3 styles, two martial arts and one weapon. Unlike #4 you don't lose your weapon when hit, and they don't do extreme amounts of damage when used. However like the two styles they can be used to string comboes together. However on the same token it is not neccesary to learn stradegy to beat story mode (it can help but not neccesary).
The story revolves around Shang Tsung and Quan Chi teaming up to take over both earthrealm and OUtworld. After Vanquishing the two realms greatest champions (Shao Kahn and Lui Kang) they set forth a series of events to conquer the two relms. Raiden relinqueshes his status as elder god to take on this force. He allies himself with Kung Lao, Sub-Zero and his apprentice Frost, Sonya, Jax, and Johney Cage. They then set forth to take out Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. Also in the mix are the returning Scorpion, Kitana, Kano, and Cyrax. The new characters are very diversed as well, from Bo Rai Cho and his prefered style of Drunken Fighting, to Mei Li who wants to rescue her clan, to Kenshi the blind warrior out to slay Shang Tsung, to Drahmin an Oni from the Netherrelm.
The one thing that did not change (besides the awsome Fatalities) is the fact that the sub boss (past guys were Goro, Kintaro, and Motaro) is the creature called Molock. Molock has no specific skills, little fighting moves, but is very fast, relelntless, blocks a lot, and is powerful. This makes for a very frustrating battle with some characters. However with others it is a cake walk (well sort of).
Overall this is the best fighting game out there for the average gamer. It doesn't require a lot of time memorizing skills and timing that virtua fighter 4 requires, yet at the same time is not as simplistic and a pushover that Tekken 4 is. This is the must own fighting game for the average gamer.
Excellent game, but not exactly a flawless victory

This game is a lot of fun and very addictive. I played it for hours and hours straight. You start out with about 12 characters and the rest are left up to you to unlock the others. Some of my favorite characters are left to be unlocked so I have work to do (i.e. Raiden, Reptile, Cyrax, Jax, etc.)! The gameplay is excellent and the new fighting styles add even more fun (each character has access to 3 fighting styles during the match). Also, "The Krypt" feature is cool. It is a place where you go and buy stuff with the MK currency you earn with the profile you create for yourself. I think this is where you unlock some characters, videos, alternate outfits, etc. You never know what you are going to get until you purchase one of the coffins in "The Krypt." Overall, the game is great.
Now, for the one flaw. The fatalities are somewhat lame. So far, I see that each character has only one fatality...and they are somewhat lame. For sure they are not what you would expect from a game like this. They lack the creativity from previous MK's. Also, there are no pits to punch anyone into. Hopefully, there are more fatalities for the characters other than the ones I've seen. You think they would be able to tack on more fatalities to each character, considering they were able to give each one 3 different fighting styles (each loaded with different moves). Hopefully I am wrong and there are more fatalities left to be discovered. However, so far I've read that there are no more. Fatalities are one feature that set MK above the rest. When they are somewhat disappointing, then that takes away from the MK experience.
Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone, especially fans of the previous MK's. It's excellent fighting system will keep you playing for hours and hours, like I did.

Well, I have been waiting a long time for the next installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and I have mixed reviews. First of all, the storyline,as always, is excellent. The characters have been expanded upon since Mortal Kombat 1, and this game adds another beautiful layer to the mythology. The added features are unreal, the Krypt alone is work hours upon hours of play. The added images and video in content is great as well. But I must say that the actual graphics of the game are pretty poor. There are cool effects like dripping blood and bruised faces, but the textures are too bad to really show off this cool idea. (The winning pose scene for Sonja makes me cring watching it everytime I play her....low-poly, simplistic textures, yuck.)The opening cinematic sequence is really bad. The animation is poor, the models are poor as well. With all of that said, it is still an extremely fun game to play. I was an arcade rat who played mk2, mk3 and mk4 religously, so in the end, I am addicted to all things Mortal Kombat.

When I was 11 and 12, I remember being at the arcades with people standing in line waiting to play whatever new Mortal Kombat game was out at the time. Years later after the franchise struggled and lost it's edge, Midway brings us Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance; A new chapter in the ongoing battle between good vs. evil.
With returning characters Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Kano, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Jax, Cyrax, etc. and new characters such as Kenshi, Hsu Hao, Frost, Li Mei, Mavado, Molach, etc, this game has alot of bloody action to keep everyone entertained.
3D graphics enhance realism such as characters dripping with blood during fights, sweating, clothes ripping, hair moving in the wind or getting wet, etc. The ice that Sub-Zero throws to freeze people comes out in glaciers instead of a round ball like in past games. The rope Scorpion throws at characters to drag them to where ever he's at, moves like an actual rope would; jerking and moving with the wind or whichever environment he happens to be in. The powder Sonya blows in people's faces to momentarily blind them comes out in a dark purple/pink dust - very realistic compared to the rings that she used to fire out of her wrists in other games.
Overall, this game will please any true Mortal Kombat fan. More characters to choose from, different arenas, new moves and fatalities help make this the most fun and deadliest Kombat of all.

If you are thinking of purchasing this game for the PS2 system, DO IT! Do not let anyone talk you out of it. It is AWESOME!
My husband, son, and I go through many gaming magazines each month. All the magazines are in agreement that the PS2 version rates 9.5, yet the others (such as X-box) rate between 5.5 and 7.5, and I can see why.
I decided to buy the PS2 version for my son's X-mas. Since guarantees are only for 30 days, I played it when I received it about 2 weeks ago. It is beautiful. However, I do see one unrealistic thing. Seems the people who made the game enjoy the ladies having BIG chests that shake and bounce ... A LOT! Since I have been into martial arts for several years, and am BIG chested, this startled me. Why? Easy answer: Ladies wear sports bras because all that bouncing and shaking HURTS! So I began looking closely at the costumes. Only one woman is not wearing what looks to be a sport top. Okay, she's crazy. But the other women ARE. So, if you are a female gamer, you MIGHT be a bit offended. I was not. I just roll my eyes and often find myself laughing.
Yes, you can turn the blood/gore on or off. Test Your Might is between rounds, and so is Test Your Sight. They both have several levels of difficulty as well. Each character has a difficulty level. The higher the level, the harder to play, but the moves have more damage. Scorpion is level one. He is the one you should start out with. There are about 9 characters you can unlock.
Thus far I have:
Katana - She is slow, but does good damage. Her difficulty level is three.
Nitara - She is a vampire. Her bite damages her opponite and heals her. She is level five.
Reptile - He looks like a lizard this time. Forgot his level.
Rayden - Same as before. Believe he is level three.
Frost - A female SubZero. Believe she is level four.
To unlock characters, extra costumes, and other odds-and-ends, you must win colored coins by winning rounds and doing some types of quests with characters. (The quests are like training in using the characters. Some of the narrations are funny!) Then you must go into a Crypt filled with about 200 coffins. Use the coins to purchase the right to open coffins. You get whatever you unlock. Many magazines tell what each coffin contains to make your life easier. USE THEM!
Each character has more than one type of martial art, weapon, etc. Each have fatalities, though I've not as yet figured them out. And, yes, ending videos.
Yes, Lu Kang died in the intro of the game. But one of the ending character's video shows how Lu is able to be in the next game. That is all I will say on that topic.
Awesome game! Highly recommended for ages 13 and up.

I am an "Old School" Gamer[!]

Like the title says, I am an old school gamer. At 25, it seems insane that over a decade of my life has been consumed by punching buttons in front my television for hours/days/years. I grew up playing the Street Fighters, Samurai Showdowns, Old Mortal Kombats, and even 8 bit Karate Champ. When all the "Marvel vs Capcom vs Your Mother"/"4 player simultaneous combat"/"3D Tekken Virtua Soul Calibrating Fighting Ultimate Brawls" came out, it ALL just became too overwhelming (and quite frankly, very BORING).
Naturally, when I heard that there was a new and improved Mortal Kombat, I decided to give fighting games a chance once again. Initially, I was quite disappointed to find that this game APPEARED to be similar to the "new school" of fighting games that I so vehemently despised. But sit down and play, and I promise you that you will LOVE it! The "Konquest" mode takes you through a training mode that helps you to master all the characters, and also teaches you many ways to attack am opponent using traditional special moves, mutli hit combos, and character weapons. The style of play is suitable to all types of gamers. Earn different coins to open over 600 coffins of special "goodies" including new levels, costumes, and characters!. Along with the story, there are many hours of gameplay here that will not disappoint you. Though it does not totally play like the traditional Mortal Kombat, it integrates a lot of the old concepts and moves. Playing Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance gives this "Old School" gamer the nostalgic feel of the original! If you are looking for a fighting game/Christmas gift to satisfy all types of gamers, you can't go wrong with my top pick. TOASTY!...

Depending on who you talk to, you'll find people who love/hate the series with a passion. One thing you can say about Mortal Kombat is it's had a staying power through the years. So, what can be said about the latest installment of Mortal Kombat? Well, let's just say...Forget everything you ever knew about Mortal Kombat. This one takes the series in a whole new direction. Taking cues from games such as Tekken, Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur, they give you extras in this game that are well worth 'fighting' for(pardon the pun). Make no mistake, this installment is downright ambitious and will have you playing for days trying to unlock everything. You can even see how the game was made, the history of Mortal Kombat and Adema's "Immortal" video. Mortal Kombat has been reinvented from the ground up so don't come in expecting the same ol' same ol'. It's a darned good game worthy of some praise. They really did a good job with this one. Everything from presentation to gameplay- you can tell Ed Boon and company really worked hard to give it their best.
Long live Mortal Kombat!!!!!!
This game is BRUTAL!! and please, read my review to help you

I give this game 4 stars because is nothing perfect, but is more good than bad.
"WHY?"
Because of this!
Good things:
. The game itself is a DVD and it contains MAAAAANY cool stufs like: An inteview of all MK games from the first one to this one, the making of MKDA, the ADEMA's music-video, galleries and merchandies from all the games and more.
. SUPERB VALUE: you have to play the game many times to unlock more characters, more costumes, more stages and more stufs. (the more you play the more money you have to buy the things that you have to unlock).
. AT LAST!!!! each character have their own fighting techniques even with weapons. If you realized, all the games had the same fighting techniques.
. AWESOME GRAPHICS for a MK game since the second one.
. New characters and old characters (let's not forget Scorpion, Sub Zero and Reptile).
. AMAZING character desing.
. New fatalities.
. More blood.
. Two hidden characters.
. A special "Konquest mode".
Bad things:
. There is just ONE fatality (no brutality, no second fatality, no animality, no friendship, no babality and no stage-fatality), and sometimes the fatalities are kind of boring.
. The fist MK without highpunch (uppercup).
. No cimematics at the ending like in MK4.
P.S: Im not a Hard-Core fan of Mortal Kombat but I like the games and I could say that this is the best MK yet.
In my opinion: Just buy this game if you like the series even a little bit.
.

Yes, the Kombat Kontinues. A hardcore old-skool fan of this series, like myself, would look at this game and jump for joy, and yes, I did. The gameplay is supposed to be wonderful, and if you've seen the screens you know that the graphics are kicking major a**. Anyway, with the release of MK1 in '92, I was overjoyed with the fun-factor of the game. MK2 (by far the best of the series until now) was loved by everyone, and was very addicting. MK3 was okay, but not to the same standards as the original duo. After the release of Ultimate MK3, I just stopped caring. More games were released, including MK4 (heck, I didn't even know about it until I found about the new one!), and they all failed horribly. And now it's back and better than ever! With some old skool favorites (Sub Zero, Scorpion, Kano, Johnny Cage, Sonya, etc.) the fun will never end. They have new kombatants also, which should be pretty cool, and hopefully they'll have other unlockable classics, too! That's all I can say about this wonderful game. I recommend you go out to stores on the day of its release and buy it. Happy Kombating.
After 4 years, the saga continues
