The graphics are decent, but could be better. Its fun for a while, then get boring, and like I said the graphics are not that good. Like the crowd looks [bad], and the graphics on the boxers are decent. There are some good boxers up there though. Dont buy it unless you really like boxing.

I think I'd rather stand in the ring myself and get punched in the face than play this game again!
The controls are horrible and the only way to win is hit the buttons as quickly as possible.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

I waited for a long time for this game to come out. I cannot believe how bad it is. NO body punches, NO training, they took everything fun out of this game and said they improved it....I could go on but belive me...it stinks. Read the reviews before you buy.
Don't fall for the marketing hype...this game is bad.

Like the other reviews I have to say I'm very disappointed in EA Sports for releasing this title. The only good thing I can say about the game is the graphics are better than 2001, other than that Knockout Kings 2001 is a much much better game. Save your money.

This game looks like the final installment in this series. I dont know who would buy it if they ever decided to come out with a Knockout Kings in 2003. This game has been going downhill since the original in 1998, and this is the worst yet.
The game basically has no career mode. Whats the point in bothering with the career mode when you cant even train your fighter? Garbage selection of trunks, faces and hairstyles to give your career mode fighter and he only has to win 9 fights before he is ready to fight for the title. The career mode is like a tournament mode, not a career mode. Joke. ...
... Whatever EA, if you people cant get the rights to use some of the more popular fighters names, dont bother coming out with another one of these.
The gameplay is a button mashing mess. Very little selection in punches, fighters movement is not fluid, its basically just a waste of your time. And its a waste of time even bothering to describe the gameplay. [It's bad], plain and simple.
I dont know about any of you KO Kings fans out there, but I have seen a steady decline in the quality of these games in recent years and I dont see the point in even bothering to look into next years version, if they decide to come out with one next year. I suggest that you all write EA Sports and tell them to bury the KO Kings series. KO Kings is in the coffin, now lets nail the door shut.
nice graphic but not much else

I was a big fan of this series but EA made a wrong turn with this version. Graphics are excellent but after that everything is very poor. My main gripe is with the controls, you cannot control body shots and nowhere in the manual does it show you how. In the Career Mode, there is no training section and you are limited in how you detail your fighter. KK2001 is way better than this version, so don't even bother upgrading to this version.
don't bother

With the popularity of Ready 2 Rumble and other extreme fighting games, EA Sports weighed the profits scale and decided to completely revamp the format of this game. I was so looking forward to KK2002, anticipating its realism. Instead what I got is a game from EA sports so gumball it's ridiculous! There is no training, no walk to the ring, no introductions, no announcing of the decision, no showing of the final scores. You would figure if they didn't put much time in the extras, they would instead put more time in the fight itself. Wrong! No boxer's bio, blocking is sporadic (and you can only block head shots), the boxers all look like bodybuilders instead of sporting their true physiques, controlled body punching is EXTREMELY difficult, no coaching between rounds, the scoring system is ridiculous (a fairly close round will be called 10-10. Whoever heard of someone winning a fight 2 rounds to 1 with 9 rounds even?!), the real boxer selection is poor, and what's with these John Woo slo-mo replays? Also, when a boxer commits a foul in a real life match, many times it's because he's in trouble. When the referee stops the action to warn the fighter, he uses that time to regain his senses (a la Felix Trinidad vs. Fernando Vargas). When is EA sports going to add this feature? There are still no standing 8 counts or TKO stoppages on anything other than cuts. In other KK games, you had the option of going down to one knee if you saw your health was going critical. That's no longer there. Obviously, realism has taken a back seat to marketing.
If there are any good points, the fighters' movements around the ring are pretty good, facial expressions have improved, but that's it.
Each new version of a game should improve on its predecessor not regress, especially with PS2's memory capacity. For those of you who have not bought yours yet and are not convinced by this review, rent it first and see for yourself. This is one of EA Sports' biggest letdowns.

I had last year's knock out kings, and loved the aspect of the training mode. However, this game doesn't have that. Sure graphics are good, but the control was better on the last game...Anyhow, I'd advise to avoid this game. Let's see how outrageous the advertising will be. Don't be fooled!!!! Jason X

If ever a company has taken a step backward in development, well this is it! There is no strategy what so ever. Just get up and bang away at the buttons. For those who own other versions of Knockout Kings you are in for a huge disapointment. When you play this version it's like playing any of the older versions in slugfest mode. Only problem is that this is the only mode for the entire game. Forget about ring introductions, referee interaction or camera pans in the corner between rounds because none of this is there. Fighting is totally, totally unrealistic. If you like banging buttons relentlessly with no strategy involvement go ahead and buy this game. If you're a boxing fan looking for a realistic and strategic game ... [get this]
