A regular guy's review...

Just got the game yesterday and I must say that this is a solid multiplayer FPS.

If you are a 'run and gun' loner, who opts for the heavy firepower, pass on this game. If you want a mature 'TEAMWORK' experience, this is the game for you. I frequently play Battlefield 1942/Vietnam, and am getting a bit weary of the 'deathmatch kiddies' who rampage across the map with their rocket launchers. In Joint Ops, you can do that, but you won't make much progress. This game requires real teamwork. To take a position you must outnumber the enemy forces at that point, or you cannot take control of it. Snipers loose accuracy over great distances, so no 'newbie' 1 km headshots in this game either. The engineers can carry mortars, but need a spotter with a targeting laser to 'paint' targets for accuracy. The more you work with your team and plan out your attacks, the more success you'll have.

Some of the maps are incredibly massive. You can have a ground battle raging, and 20 miles away a gunboat battle could be underway.

It is true that helicopter flight is exceptionally easy compared to battlefield Vietnam. You don't have to manage your thrust with forward movement in Joint Ops. I for one find this a positive, since the threat from the ground can be so intense that it pretty much evens out the odds.

As mentioned before, if you only have 56K connection, DO NOT BELIEVE THE BOX. I tried it out on my girlfriend's computer with 56K connection, and it was unplayable.

The most chaotic and massive FPS ever!

The person that has a review posted above me is completely wrong unfortunately. They have no clue what they are talking about so please disregard everything he says.

DESERT COMBAT is not a free game. You must purchase 50 dollar game to play it. He is very much wrong in leading people in thinking it is a free game.

This game supporst up to 150 people on multiplayer with no lag and is very smooth. The graphics are incredible especially considering the fact that the game supports so many users.

If you liked Battlefield series then this game is for you. It is what Battlefield 2 is trying to be. A massive First person shooter. Well you have it right here! It has broken the barrier of first person shooters.

Go out and buy now. You can't beat the price.

Not for deathmatching kiddies!

This game is more simulator than deathmatch experience. One hit kills are the norm. Deaths without knowing where it came from, or whom it game from are the norm.

If you are the rambo bunny hopping death match kiddie type do me and everyone else a favor and stay away.

Players that move in groups and work together rule this game, loner rambos die quickly and often.

The best analogy I can come up with is Joint Operations is a more "action" orientied Operation Flashpoint. With modern updated graphics.

Joint Operations does not have the extensive list of weapons and vehicles that Operation Flashpoint has and is class based so you choices of firepower are limited by what class you choose. All classes are useful, even the medic. But Joint Operations definately feels a little more "action" oriented, in the game play.

The expansion pack "Escalation" will add more vehicles, maps and weapons, so it will more like Operation Flashpoint in november.

A useful review for you dial up gamers out there.

When you read the blurbs located in various locations on the box it states that:

Breakthrough technology allows you to play on a 56k connection as "smooth as silk".

I read that and thought, "Ahhh, the replacement for Counter-Strike and Battlefield I've been looking for!" Not true. Apparently silk is not as smooth as I was lead to believe. Don't misunderstand me, however. When I was able to get into a game I enjoyed it very much. Usually I was booted within five minutes by the hosts of the game for high latency. Normal ping was around 300-400 on the smaller servers. Trying to play on the larger servers with 100-150 players is impossible on dial-up.

If you have broadband, which most people do, you won't experience these problems. If you are stuck with dial-up as your internet connection don't buy this.

w00t!

I am a long time gamer, and big fan of Battlefield 1942 - Desert Combat in particular. I have to say it is nice to finally see a game that makes you work for it! The maps are giant, so big infact that it would take you an hour just to walk across it! Through in that bad a$$ little helicopter with the missles, OMG it is amazing. The experience is very similar to Battlefield but with the Black Hawk Down feel in it. I personally think this is a close to real combat that PC Games have come.

This has to be the most fun I've had with an FPS in a long time. After playing CS for years after it first came out, I had gotten bored with most of the generic team based games that came out. Battlefield was fun, but didn't really interest me. Joint ops however, did something right. The maps that come with the game are well designed, and each map feels like a different game. Maps range from smaller sized island romps, to large scale (60km) assaults on the enemy. Servers allow up to 150 people at a time and there is very little lag associated with your connection speed.
The weapons seem to obey physics with compensation for range due to drop and leading necessary. Vehicles are a more arcadeish, but this allows anyone to hop into a chopper and ferry teammates across the larger maps. Teamwork is also encouraged in this game, instead of going off on your own, e.g.: The game awards experience points to you for kills teammates get if you bring them to the battle for a certain amount of time, and Spawn points in AAS (advance and secure play) are captured more quickly if more of your team is there.

The only real problem I've seen with this game is that it doesn't seem to like all routers much. I've had the problem myself, but a visit to the forums now should be able to clear up any connection problems you have, and many of the frame rate issues were fixed with the most recent patch.

Joint Ops=Tons o Fun

Joint Ops is the best online multiplayer game i've ever played! I love the easy contrnls that they usually don't have on alot of the other computer FPS games.the vehicles let you go anywhree really easily, and just about no one cusses in this either(a huge problem in other games, not to mention annying).only problem is that rebels have a downside to thier weapons because im a sniper.and there are a lot of gliches in this game like when you press shift to get out of a helicopter gun or seat and you fall out the bottom of it.but the weapon variety is huge and the vehicles are so easy to control. The grphics are so good compared to most, and the game runs smoothly later on.This is a definite 5 star game from Novalogic.

ive had the game for awile now. you need to patch if you own.

graphics: incredible, nothing like sitting inside a helicopter and see the heat off a rpg that passes by your face while going thru the open doors.
you can disapear in the foilage very easily.
very large viewable distance.

weapons and vehicles: very good balance.

gameplay: you must use exceptional tactics to get anywhere.
with that being said:
you can play every style of fps in this game.
you can play how you would play in R6, CS, ghost recon, you name it.
you can choose to be a sniper and really use stealth. or be a rifleman and co-ordinate a take over. or be silent and infiltrate an area and kill without ever giving away your location.
the game is what you make it.

downfall:
you must work in teams.
solitary killing is alright. to get the serious kills you must work as a team.
you have to use tactics. run and gun gets you killed. you cannot run into the middle of a open area and expect to NOT die. you have to think about your movement, your cover, your place in the overall motion. and especially your enemy. you have to know what he/she is doing, thinking, planning.
you have to bring your ability to the next level of thinking.

this game is better then all of the fps out right now because the number of players (150) adds a element that is hard to define but is understood once you enter an area with 75 badguys trying to kill you. and you have to wonder if you packed the right gun.

Something realy good !

This is by far one of the best games on the net today ! 1st person shooter with a 3rd person twist in it. Need a good video card though and a good connection to the net to fully enjoy the pleasure of this game. Everything from maps to equipment and lets not forget vihicles is all top notch cant say a bad thing about this one Nova realy pulled it of with this title. Up to 150 people in a SINGLE map thats outstanding. Team work is VERY, VERY IMPORTANT and the realism is there no metter what anybody sas. I suggest...GET THE GAME YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.
