Just for the record (Nancy) it's Guilty Gear X - 2 not guilty gear times 2. Now that weve got that sorted, I'll continue.
Gears= Genetically altered humans created for the purpose of strengthening human DNA which cannot act without command
Magic= A new type of Physics discovered in 2010 allowing the control of fire etc.
100 year war= A war between Humans and Gears led by a super gear with free will named Justice. This war resulted in the victory of humans
Post-War Administration Bureau= An organisation with a grip over the UN and responsible for a lot of blood and pain which collapsed after the 100 year war.
Japan= Japan was destroyed by Justice, and few Japanese people remain, the mythical "Ki" force, the only magic not be yet mastered by physics was almost completely wiped out.
That Man= The creator of the Gears
Graphics: Brilliant mix of Hi-res, well drawn anime ( no sloppy cloth work, only the best! ) and 3D. It really isn't like anything I've seen before, and I used to think that graphics/cartoon mixes were Bad!
In short there is no real main plot to GGX2, only a background on which all the other stories are built. This is the time after the 100 year war. Humans are on the path to peace. But behind the scenes, unidentified bounties are being placed on all the Japanese, and mysterious robots bearing resemblance to Ky-Kiske, a master swordsman, are appearing. Whilst each of the characters carry on with their quests: revenge, peace, protection, bounty hunting, the finding of answers, there is a war bruing. The question is, when is the secretly reformed Post-War Administration Bureau going to cast the first stone?
This game is damn good as it is the most challenging and deepest beat-em-up on the market, or at least till GGX3 comes out. Every character has three paths to unlock in their story mode. There are enough challenges to keep you going for days, quite literally. The unlockable items are actually RELEVANT ( unlike certain unlockables in certain games **coughs: MORTAL KOMBAT!**), as they either change the moves of your character, the way the character handles, or bear a relevance in the story mode. Whats more the unlockable items aren't easy to get. Eg to get GG mode: either ALL endings for ALL characters, get to level 300 in suvival mode, or complete 45 missions (good luck! the missions are so hard that they in themselves are enough to make an entirely new game!).
Modes: Story, Missions, survival, arcade, training, versus.
Characters: all brilliantly designed with pasts that reflect their present, and deep stories. The moves are rendered in a SPECTACULAR mix of anime and 3D that will make anyone gawp in their beauty and power. Alas, everything is not laid out for you so you will actually have to partly guess their pasts if you are new to the GG series.
Moves: The game is fast paced and will literally get your pulse racing, it did mine. The game uses a unique move system that varies from character to character, random buttin bashing generally doesn't work!
Replay value: With 3 endings for all 16 of the characters, lots of extra modes to unlock, and artwork to attain for your trouble after completing the vast amount of challenges, this game has kept me going since march, and I'm still no where near completion!.
Music and Sound: Er, it depends on your taste. Like heavy metal? then this'll be good. Like justin Timberlake? you'd best mute it all and put your own music on intead. The voice over guy is alright, with a nice exclamation of HEAVEN OR HELL before each fight.

I love 2-D games on the PS2 because the high processing power means that they can be extremely colorful and beautiful! This is one of the games that takes full advantage of this! Its a great translation of the arcade version, great replayability (because the matches in this game are so involved) and absolutely beautiful, full of the creepy-cool characters we expect from a Guilty Gear game! We rented it and I played it a bunch but, I definately plan to pick this up when I get a chance!
I love this game

To give you personal background: faves for 2D are Samurai Shodown 1/2 and Last Blade. GGX2 is similarly stylish but faster gameplay. Much less frantic and better balanced than MvC series though. Forgiving to newbies but still deep with good mix of 2D mechanics taken from both Capcom and SNK. Beautiful presentation, excellent high-res, good single-player options, heavy rock soundtrack (can become monotonous), responsive control, ample character selection. VERY addictive. Personal favorite 2D fighting game on nex-gen consoles.
If you haven't bought it yet, do so now.

I'm not usually into fighting games, but the Guilty Gear series changed all that for me. This is by far the most challenging game I have every played (survival mode gets up to level 999 and the missions in mission mode can be pretty tough), but it still has appeal for those who aren't masters of the fighting genre. The heavy metal soundtrack is so good I plan to buy it if I can find it, the graphics are awesome (2-D anime style characters with 3-D special move effects and blended together very well). I would like to formally disagree with the Amazon.com review and say that Instant Kills are not hard to pull off- if you know when to use them- but why shorten your mind numbing speed experience by finishing in one shot anyway?
This game has tons of unlockables, most of which being relevant to enhancing the gameplay (and including 3 secret characters).
It will redefine your expectations of a fighting game, and it's not even $50.00 new.
Guilty Gear X2 is Unbelievable!!!!

Until the arrival of "Guilty Gear Isuka" which is the next game in the Guilty Gear Series, this game is the best. There are a lot of aspects that make this game worthwhile and worth having. I suggest that if you are a 2D Fighter enthusiast, that you at least try this game out because you will be impressed. Even if you are an extreme Capcom fanatic, you might want to get the schematics down for this game since the newest addition to the Capcom's VS. Series will be Sammy vs. Capcom.
Well anyways, here is how I break it down to. This games is phenomenal since they brought back the storyline in the 2D Fighter. The last time that I seen a good storyline in a 2D fighter was back in the Street Fighter Alpha Series and that game is quite old right now. Also, this game mixes in rock music with anime which adds to the cool factor. If you are into rock music, especially guitar solos and all, and you like anime, this game is for you. This game is pretty much the in-between of Capcom vs. SNK and Marvel vs. Capcom. It has the look of the insane gameplay yet it has a lot of technicality when it comes to playing. Also the modes add to the fun factor for there is a lot to unlock including endings and different storyline endings.
That is just a very quick overview of the game and I hope it is good enough. If you want a more detailed review, just start and AIM Instant Message session with me. My username is the same as my username here. As a final word, I suggest if you are skeptic to at least rent it first and see how you like it which I believe you will like.

Guilty gear is my favorite fightings games and one of my favorite games in general! anyone who has fallen pray to the capcom empire should brake away and try somthing new! before i played guilty gear I loved capcom Vs snk 2, good character selection, graphics, music, etc. however i stoppd playing soon after I bought it! Why? because Ryu, Ken and Terry have been used over and over along with the same tired fighting system.after playing Guilty gear for a few MONTHS now i recently purchased Capcom vs snk and i realized that the game is not fluid at all! I gonna take a big risk and i will say that Capcom vs snk sucks! compared to this. TAKE MY ADVISE AND BUY THIS GAME YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!
Very cool

This game has the coolest style. The graphics are awsome and the characters are very different. fighting with weapons rules and the specials are neat. The sound rocks and it looks like one of those stylized fights you'd see in movies or cutscenes, but you are controlling them.
One of the best fighters out there

Back in March 2003, I had no clue what the Guilty Gear series was. I had a subscription to PSM, and in their reviews, they named Guilty Gear X2 their game of the month. Since games really had to be good to recieve an award as such, I decided to try it out. Boy, I'm glad I did because this is one of my favorite games, ever.
Everything about this game screams originallity. First of all, the animation is some of the smoothest I have ever seen in a 2-D fighter. And just to get it out of the way, yes, this game is almost entirely drawn out in anime or manga styling. Now that might turn some of you off, but anime fans will love this. Second, there are a large number of play modes, including Story, Survival, Training, Arcade, M.O.M, Mission, Vs. Cpu, and Vs. 2 Player. The Story mode is a new addition to the series and it really helps to explain the story of each character. Each character has three storylines that can be discovered, the next more interesting than the one before it. Then, there's my favorite part of this game: the music. The music in this game is best music ever placed into a game, especially since each song represents each character's mood and personality. Almost all of the songs are completely made with REAL instruments, with the exception of a few which were transfered from Guilty Gear X, which had no actual drums. I own the soundtrack to this game, and you need to special order it from Japan to get it. There are around 40 songs on the soundtrack, each one different from the other.
The characters in this game are still the way they were with the past game, only with a few changes to their moves list. There are also 4 new ones to play as right off the bat, and 3 to unlock. Two of the 3 will seem familar to followers of the series. Each character is different from any other one on the roster, with the exception of 2 characters. This makes the game's replay value very high and allows the gamers to choose his or her own playing style. Choose Sol Badguy for an easy start, or select a more challenging character, like I-no or Faust. The control for each one is also responsive and they react quickly and effectively. Each character, except for Dizzy, has their own Instant Kill. Using these obviously kills the opponent instantly, but the catch is that you only have one chance to use them per round. Some may find them difficult to use, but you're not really supposed to use them constantly just to win matches.
So all-in-all, this game is a near perfect fighting game which is a little on the hard side. But that shouldn't stop you from playing it and having a good time. I highly recommend this game for those of you who like manga, heavy metal, and fast-paced, responsive action. Guilty Gear X2 is definetly the best game in the series, and possibly, the whole genre.

Guilty Gear X2 is the best 2-D anime fighting game by Sammy Studios. You could choose many options in the game like: Arcade, Survival, Mission, Story, M.O.M. and many more. There are also three secret characters which are Robo-Ky, Justice, and Kliff Undersn. I like Guilty Gear X2 because you could could customize your own combos with Roman Cancels. Roman Cancels have a big part to the game because without them you could never pass a few missions. You could also win your opponenet easily by doing Instant Kill. You should buy Guilty Gear X2 if you like doing a variety of combos.
