The game's storyline was a little. . .odd, but so was FFX's. Some people think this game is way better than FFX; my opinion is a bit different. The battle system frustrated me. . .They attack you when you are choosing your moves. At first it was wacky, then it just got annoying. After about an hour (probably less), I quit playing, holding my head in frustration. The old FFX battle system was a lot better (for me, who always forgets to pause x.x), since it gave you as much time as you needed. Overall, I'd say this game would be better for people who could make smart decisions quickly :-)

the best thing about this game is most definitely the superb graphics. i was staring at the screne with awe when i first started playing this. the battles are fun, too, and it's really cool how you can change a characters job during battle. the only tiny little itsy bitsy complaint i have is that you aren't really given a constant story line. sometimes you are on a mission, and you have no clue why you are there. maybe i'm just one of those people who likes to be pushed into a story, but i thought it would be developed a little sooner in this game. with that said, i think the rest of it looks wonderful, and playing it is a blast. check this one out if you haven't already. it's a great sequel to a fantastic prequel.

Final Fantasy X-2 is a great game! ATB (Active time battling) makes the battle seem realistic and keeps you on your toes. I also like non-linear gameplay. The missions are fun and quick, and each movie sphere you acquire raises new questions about spira's past. Although I don't care for dress spheres, I miss the old sphere grid. The graphics are superb.
In summary, Pros: ATB, Mission based gameplay, Graphics.
Cons: Dress Spheres.
I think you should buy this game.

ok overall, some criticisms here and there

the end of Final Fantasy X makes you wonder just what the heck that was. I mean that scene with Tidus after credits. Final Fantasy X-2, if you successfully complete 100% of the game, gives you an ending that starts off from this little scene. so this is the ultimate goal of the gamer.
yes it's fun, but some things seemed too tedious. and there's no way to achieve 100% completion without a guide of a walkthrough. so if you're going to play this game and if you're set on watching the ultimate scene, then buy a walkthrough with it. or find a free one online.

Super fast, super sleek, and pretty good too!

Starting this title I was initially turned off by the "disasteriffic" dialogue of the game. It kind of scared me to see some of my favorite Final Fantasy characters using dialogue so bad that it made Charlie's Angels look good... Thankfully, early into the title the lame dialogue comes to an end and the story begins. Although the story isn't as deep and meaningful as its predecessor it is filled with a truly innovative tale about searching for lost love. Yuan leaves Besaid Island along with Rikku and newcomer Paine to join the Gull wings in search of Spheres. Although it takes some time (depending on how many side missions you do before hitting the hotspots in the mission menu) to understand why. Essentially, you learn that Yuna received a sphere that contained images of a man who bears more than a strong resemblance to Tidus. It seems that she is searching for that man, while having to sort out the political unrest of Spira while the new religious sects of New Yevon and the Youth League go at it. Its a very good story, but does not reach the levels of greatness that was achieved by numerous entries in the Final Fantasy story. Never the less kudos to Square-Enix for finally taking some favorites and doing more with them. FF VII-2 and FF VIII-2 would be great. (Of course so would ground up remakes in the fashion of Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid would be nice too.)
The game play in this game is where the title really excels. Fast, on your toes, quick thinking. The enemies do not wait, and your characters often attack simultaneously, or one right after another which makes for some really neat combinations and chains. One flaw however is the long animations as the girls change costumes... like the summons of FF VIII they're long winded, and as far as I can tell cannot be skipped. Square needs to implement a policy that in battle animations like that should be skipable, but not go too far like the did in FF IX where you seldom saw the animations because the computer cut them short most of the time. I'd like the option to watch the animations at my whim. There are occasions where I'm in the mood for it, and others when I'm not.
Graphically this game is a mixed bag. Yuna, Rikku, and Pain look absolutely amazing, as does Nooj, and some of the few other main characters. However, the majority of the characters (residents, and secondary, and tertiary characters) look simply horrible by today's standards, featuring low poly-counts, and low texture quality... basically looking like N64 characters. With PS2 kicking out incredible graphics as seen in Resident Evil Outbreak, and Silent Hill 3 this is disappointing.
Sound effects and voice acting are only so-so as well, but the game does retain most of the original voice actors. Over all though the reason to play this game is for the incredibly fast paced game play, which brings a new revolutionary twist to the FF series in much the same way that FF X did.

It's really good!

I love FFX, and I needed more closure than the ending it provided. FFX-2 was cute, but it's kind of shallow. The depth and maturity of FFX was gone, however it still was a blast to play.
The best parts of the game are the musical performances, the fast-paced battles, and the "good" ending, which gives tons of closure to both FFX and FFX-2. The worst part is the irritating leveling up and learning abilities, which takes forever, but the New Game Plus feature is a nice bonus to help with that.
Play it, it's short, it's fun. you really can't go wrong.

I'm Enjoying It

I decided to buy this a couple of months ago because FF-X was almost perfect and I had to find out what has become of Yuna and friends. Not only because there are three hOTT chicks in the game, of course not. Well I'm single and young so errr...I guess that's part of the reason why I got this. I'm not a total pervert.

So, Yuna, Rikku, and another new girl Paine embark on a new adventure across the same exact Spira in the last game. The story is nice and it is linear to the last installment and some of the same characters are still around and a lot of new ones too. A whole new story no "We gotta bring another calm!" and no aeons. I won't spoil the story at all, I'll just let you know this isn't exactly like FF-X. The story is actually really good, but maybe 10-20 hours too short. But like other reviewer(s) said, you face some of the same monsters as in the last one. Which sparks up a Deja Vu feel. But HEY! The new battle system is awesome and realistic! The monsters don't wait for their turn they just hit you and you can hit the monsters a few times to blow them off and trigger them to miss their attacks on you. I really love the new battle system, one of the best parts of the game.

The music isn't bad, but I agree it gets repeitive after leveling up for 20 minutes. There is a solution though. Mute the game, then put on a good CD while you're leveling up. I usually put in Bob Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde" while leveling up. It makes it fun, I swear. You don't have to put on Dylan, put on whatever you want. Yeah, the music on the title screen is a nice piano tune, I like it. It makes me get ghostbumps on my neck.

Voice-acting is the same as in the last game(average), but you don't hear new voices withj the characters. I hate it when they do that in TV shows or videogames. I was relieved to hear the same voices, I would not even be able to play it. I just loved the voices on the FF-X and I really embraced them and learned to love the characters.

So if you like the last game, buy this sucka. If not go and buy the new FF on Gamecube or the online one. You''re have more fun with those. PREREQUIST.>FF-X! ...BUY THAT BEFORE YOU PLAY THIS!

At a glance, one might think of this game and it's prequel as a whole as a mix between Charlie's Angels, Sailor Moon, Grandia 2 and Breath of Fire 2(but who that one is I won't say). Well, it is but that's not a bad thing. I'll explain what I mean by that. Three spunky girls (signifigantly less than the Sailor Scouts/Soldiers, I know, but equal to those who bring Heaven to Earth)search for a lost love but uncover an ancient threat born of Man's ignorance and hostility (War's bad, m'kay?)opposed by the heroine and her beau in a previous life(sort of like Usagi/Serena and the Tuxedo Mask/Prince Darren guy did in the the Moon Kingdom assisted by the proto-Sailor Soldiers )which a group of dreamy guys and a dippy female rival are wrapped up in for their own reasons. They change clothing alot, too, also using magic gems with memories stored on them. Yeah, I know, standard fare for Japanese girl's comics just as Final Fantasy X had much in common with the usual boy's manga/anime and a story midway between the aforementioned RPGs and even a few Marvel and DC comics(you've been praying to the 'Devil' all along/what you thought was the solution was the problem. Long live Despero/Thanos/Galactus/Gaint gaseous wanna-be diety!)but originality is highly overrated anyway. It's the execution that matters most and it's here that it delivers in spades. The new fusion of real-time and turn based action introduces a timing based stategy element to the series that it sorely needed (I dozed off one time playing the original. I may have been sleep deprieved already, but it's montony didn't help matters any), allowing one an almost Grandia-like level of freedom to choose the way one will pick their foe apart, defeating enemies with pre-emptive combos (one gripe some have with the Grandia series, but that's the whole point. It works to a lesser extent in FF Tactics, as well...no combos...a proper stategy can bring the highest degree of success with a minimum of damage to one's character)or randomly wailing away on lower level opponents, whatever suits one's playing style. The Dresspheres are, more or less, a much slower version of the character cycling system first seen in Breath of Fire 4 then in Final Fantasy X, that is if one doesn't toggle the Spherechange sequences to abridged form or off, or the Dragon Morphing of Panzer Dragoon Saga/Orta,but the same character changes ablities sets and apperances while retaining the experience level of the previous mode...sort of like Mega Man does but alot more elaborate in both design and implementation. Graphically, the game is about on par with Metal Gear Solid 2(almost)until the cinema scenes play, then one can be teased with X-Box quality visuals, making one wonder why in the world Square-Enix insisted on (until Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles came out on the GameCube)remaining loyal to Sony (like they didn't with Nintendo),losing millions in sales instead of making games for all three console game systems. Soundwise, it's a mix between standard to great J-Pop, a few tunes reminscent of Panzer Dragoon Saga(especially Zanarkand Ruins)and vaguely operatic themes. Some may be disappointed by the lack of the familiar FF FanFare, but keep in mind that it's an optional sequel, not it's own opus,a continuation, not a stand-alone. Storywise, what there is, won't appeal to players who didn't enjoy or couldn't tolerate the Legend of Mana's layout or Sailor Moon/Super Archies, being fed story events and info little-by-little, sometimes delicious, sometimes bland and unpaletable, but over-all fun so long as one leaves it as a blind taste test...in other words-don't use guides except for repeat playthroughs which the ChronoTrigger/Cross style New Game+ accomodates.Don't worry about not being able to import your chosen name for Tidus(Lucifer, in my case) as they cleverly refer to him by inspecific titles like "You-know-who" to keep from spoiling it for fans of the prequel. One last thing that needs to be said is this: Final Fantasy X-2 is not the first Final Fantasy to feature a female main character as FF6 had Terra for the first half, Celes for the second, but it is the first to feature gender exclusivity since the very first all-male outing(no pun intended). Final Fantasy X-2=XX(as in the chromosomes...pun intended but not by me.)!
Now, for an update: Maybe my 4-star vote was a tad hasty before. Many months have passed since I last played. I just got bored with all of the sparkly things flashing across my screen, giggling airheads(Paine, you sold me out...just like Daria Morgandorfer!) and dull, skeletal Bishoujo-'inspired'storyline, leaving it unfinished at roughly 95%. I just can't muster the enthusiasm the play it again. If you desperately want a videogame with a strong main female character, try The Misadventures of Tron Bonne(PS1), Beyond Good and Evil(all),XenoSaga(PS2),Final Fantasy 6(see review),Deception 3(kind of), any Tomb Raider game, Resident Evil(any of them), Metroid Prime(GC), Eternal Darkness(GC)and Metal Gear Solid 2(kidding!)for starters. Beware though, except for TR, the cheesecake content is far below the ManShow-recommended quantities. It was still nice to see a scantily-clad heroine in an RPG for once instead of the usual beefcake/boytoy eye-candy...I liked Tidus, but that's what he was!

Well, I have to admit, hearing about Yuna being a pop star was pretty troubling. But when I got the chance to play it, it really wasn't as bad as I thought. Actually, it was SO MUCH FUN. I have played a lot of FF games, and I've always wondered what it would be like if it was more lighter. Now, I got my wish, and it's addictively entertaining.

The more girly aspects like the dresspheres, and the new music will most likely turn off old school RPG fans. But if you're used to JPop or you really have a good sense of humor, and ESPECIALLY if you played FFX, you should at least give this one a chance.

This game is an exellent addition to the long respected final fantasy series it has an amazing storyline better than the first and new level up system. It created by Square Enix in my mind the best game making company I ever heard of whick has made many other games I love such as Kingdom Hearts. This games downfall is that it is very easy and short compared to the rest of the series but there are several endings which makes the replay value very good, along with the stunning graphics and light-hearted but sometime secretive story-line. I give it a 5 star rating.
