Excellent game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: April 09, 2004

This game tops every game made for PS2 so far. I bought knockout kings 2002 and I hated it. You couldn't even throw body punches. So i went backwards to knockout kings 2001, but i didn't like that game either. The graphics were poor, and the gameplay was slow. Also, THERE WAS NO CREATE BOXER MODE! Finally something great came out. This game has everything you need to be satisfied with boxing. The graphics are top notch and the gameplay is realistic. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because i'm kind of picky with games. Here's just a few cons i found in the game.
1. Not enough illegal moves (only headbutts)
2. No referees in the ring
3. Some of the knockdowns are silly looking
4. No grappling
That's all i found so far, otherwise it's a great game and i recommend it to everyone. Feel safe to buy it.

Fight Night 2004

I think it is by far the best boxing game out there. Still though, I have a lot of things that could be changed.
I played my brother who is almost as good as me, I was Byrd, he was Frazier. I knocked him down2 times in the first 3 rounds. UMM(...) Has byrd over knocked someone down? WHAT THE HELL!
what I would change:
1. Big Tigger needs to be gone. I dont need the ring announcer to be waering a Falcons jersey, and talking all ghetto. Jones doenst do it when he announces, and everything Tigger says is pretty stupid,"Oh man, his nose is gonna blow up!" Yeah Ill take Lampley and Merchant instead.

2. Where is the robe's with the ring Enterance?

3. More real fighters, get rid of the old ones, or make them where you have to unlock them.

4. Get to choose promoters, managers, cutmen etc. Come on EA can offer that.

5. WAY TO MANY KO's

6. Different music chioces, Ive never seen Berrara come out to rap music have you?

7. Career mode could have more features like fight being televised and that kind of stuff.

8.Downloadable fighters such as roster updates, teh technology is out there u can update a roster in Madden but u don't include certain fighter Delahoya ,Vargas u should have the ability to download them ...

A Step Back

This game is nothing like the previous ones. The game control is awful, movement really sucks, graphics are not good at all, the rap music is just pathetic! And when you knock down an opponent, they look down right stupid. That rag doll technique really is lame.

Good Game

For All You boxing Fans, this is a decent game for the Boxing standards. Forget the Soundtrack and the Hip Hop, if you do not like the Hip Hop then turn down the Music. The game has a flow unlike the others in the pass....The grapics are very realistic and draw you in.....the Different levels could improve a little but all in all it is a good Game.

By the way Hip Hop is mostly Bought by Kids who do not live in the Ghetto...Don't hate the music/soundtrack hate the game.

BEST YET

THIS GAME ROCKS. IT'S THE BEST BOXING GAME OUT THERE. BOXING STRATEGY IS ACTUALLY USED IN THIS ONE, IMAGINE THAT. I HOPE THEY CONTINUE WITH THIS TITLE. FLAWS; WHERE'S THE YOUNG TYSON? THERE'S CHRIS BYRD AND KEN NORTON THAT COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT FOR PATTERSON AND IRON MIKE. THATS IT THOUGH. A MUST GET FOR YOUR EA SPORTS COLLECTION.

Lets get ready to Rumble!!!

Now ive only played the OPM demo of this game but from what ive seen it rocks! ive ordered the real thing and cant wait for it 2 arrive on my door step.
Alot of people have been wondering why some of the big boxing names have been left out, so ill just try clear this up a little;
Mike Tyson has been left out because he has a game of his own so EA couldn't get him, other boxers may not of wanted to be in the game or it was just EA wanting to get a few unknown faces into the game. Just think would the game be any good if there was just top class boxers to choose from?? i think half the fun of the game is training a week boxer up to kick da $h!t out of some of the heavier boxers... well theres my 2cents anyway...
Top game, 5 stars!

Marciano looks like a welterweight...

...but at least Marciano's power is still there. The team that put this game together have added some nice, subtle touches that make it fairly enjoyable, such as creating a good "feel" for individual fighters and the fighting itself. Bernard Hopkins' character accurately fights the way Hopkins does: excellent defense, technically solid in every area. When I was Roy Jones Jr., I felt a sense of his awesome speed and capabilities. Every character was realisticly depicted, not only in appearance but in movement and fight style. Mayorga (a modern day Stanley Ketchel) has an awkward flow that is very hard to defend against, as well as terrific power. So good job there.

A flaw with this game is the default controls. They are going to be a major factor that might prevent this game from entering a higher sales bracket. You must adjust the controls so that the buttons do the punching, not the analog stick, easily remedied but it is going to frustrate many players and give them reasons not to turn the rental into a purchase. This oversight probably stems from the desire to imitate the physical controls of a particular stand-up boxing game that was present in the arcades for several years, but not appropriate here for a handheld controller.

Secondly some fighters have slipped into the game that really do nothing to generate any enthusiasm or anticipation but only create an unbalanced feel for the different divisions. Fighters like Leija and Byrd and several others are good fighters in the real world but I want great fighters to look at in a game; as it stands now there are not enough "great" fighters here. I don't know if this was a monetary issue but if you want models of superb fighters, the past is an excellent place to find them. I was pleased to see some Hall of Fame fighters like Robinson, LaMotta, Marciano, Ali and some others but there were not enough. This game was an excellent rental for myself but in terms of value, the programmers should have put in fighters like Tyson (or a similar made up creation to avoid the expense) and Mayweather and more fighters like Willie Pep, Jack Dempsey, even Sullivan for laughs, and perhaps Joe Lious and Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns would have been nice instead of a loudmouth like Tarver who has not shown enough respect to Jones, one of the greatest fighters of all time. This game is going to age considerably when Tarver's stockprice plummets after his next fight or two.

The soundtrack is repetitive and annoying to the point where I just turned off the volume at one point. Contrast this weak soundtrack with the classics of the eighties in GTA Vice City and there is not even a comparison.

Note to all game developers: in case you are not aware, since Vice City has been on the market the bar has been raised and glaring weaknesses are no longer tolerated. The problem with games like Fight Night 2004 is the sheer cost makes it terribly difficult to pick up - even for hardcore boxing fans like myself. This game could have been a classic if it was not for this, and a handful of other thoughtless mistakes. As it stands now I wouldn't buy the game unless it made it to the cheaper Greatest Hits PS2 collection and by then it will probably not be worth getting distracted from GTA San Andreas which will be out before the end of the year. However, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the next installment of Fight Night 2004 turned out to be a real winner.

Boxers, your game has arrived

Starting off, when you are intimately familiar with boxing, (having grown up with boxers, as the son of a trainer and trained/sparred with one of the licensed boxers in the game), you pretty much KNOW boxing. This game, with its control setup, is the first game that feels like getting in the ring on a console. From the first few hours of struggling with the format, (the right analog stick controls punching- pushing it upper-left throws a jab, upper right a straight right, to the left and curving towards the upper left is a hook, right then upper-right a right hook, and from bottom left to upper left is a left uppercut- the right has a match), its like learning how to use your hands as a boxer. And, once you get used to it, you're ready to rumble. Some people say its hard, and there is a button for punch scheme- but this is frankly a cop-out.

I do hope there is some expansion on certain aspects in the next game, (create-an-entourage mode, corner team, etc), but now, this is the best pound for pound boxing game ever- period.

Give it a shot!

This game is great. Before I bought it, I wasn't sure about how much I would like it because of the graphics and the total punch control feature. But I'm glad I have it. This game can keep you playing for hours. Decide what kind of boxer you want and become a superstar in Career Mode as you work your way up the rankings. Defend your title and unlock Trunks, Tattoos, Gloves, Gear, Entrance Effects, and more. Use the Training Camp to test your skills and to get the chance to increase your stats. Look over all of your Trophies and Belts in the Trophy Case. Play some Exhibition games, facing the greatest boxers in the world.

Use many features to create the perfect boxer. Test him out with the new Total Punch Control feature. The graphics are great and the gameplay is loads of fun. There are some downsides, however. They include: the announcer (very annoying), no referees, no clinching, not enough game modes, and Career Mode is too short. These things do not get in the way. Try this game out and get ready for some exciting fights!

Addictive

This game is flippin addictive. I dont play much PS2 but this game, once you master the controls, is the best sports sim I have ever played. My favorite part is career mode which allows you to create your own boxer to spec with really good tools. Then, you take your guy through the rankings, earning money for bling or new moves. Its great. If you like boxing, you will be an addict, guaranteed.
