Plotwise: Taking place after the Animatrix short "Final Flight of the Osiris," parallel to "The Matrix Reloaded," and helmed by Matrix directors Andy and Larry Wachowski, "Enter the Matrix" is a new era of movie based games. The main characters are Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith), captain of the ship Logos, and Ghost (Anthony Wong), her first mate. The game is basically what goes on with these characters while we are busy watching the main characters in the film. It covers the recovery of the package that the Osiris crew dropped off, rescuing a captain from agents at the airport, the meeting in the sewers, the subsequent escape from the sewers, the rescuing of your partner and the Keymaker from the Merovingian, the escape from the twins, the famous freeway chase, the destruction of a power plant that allows Neo to meet the Architect, and some other stuff. Containing about an hour of live action film created specifically for the game, ETM strives to give you the chance to, well, enter the matrix.
Reviewwise:
THE GOOD:
Live action sequences made specially for the game. It's nice that they made the effort to make you feel like you are doing something that ties in with the story.
Kung Fu and Shooting. Action-packed and exciting.
Good control. The PS2's control is the best and easiest, with the controls well placed (except first person view).
Bullet Time. What else do I have to say?
The fact that it has something to do with the films helps the plot.
The Camera. While it gets kind of spastic at times, it mostly does its job right.
While Niobe and Ghost control the same, their paths are somewhat different, and choices can be made to change the course of the game, adding replay value.
THE BAD:
Graphics. The look is pretty bland for a game with so much development time. The animation is really rough; the characters, besides Niobe and Ghost, are very plain and all look the same.
Repetition. Fighting and shooting, while fun, gets old fast.
Horrible balance. During normal stages, you can just sit someplace and heal up instantly, but in boss fights this just goes away, making normal stages too easy and boss fights too damn hard.
Level design. The environments are bland and repetitive, and the worst offense is that some levels are large and take 15-20 minutes, while some are just one small room and take five seconds.
Sound problems. In some in-game cutscenes, there is an echo effect which makes dialogue incomprehensible, and while the music is good, it plays at the wrong times.
Driving scenes are horrible! Controls are crappy, and your AI partner has the intelligence of a dodo bird!
Screwey loading. Why does it take a minute to load levels or in-game cutscenes, thile live action footage takes a fraction of a second?
Goddamn bugs and glitches! CLipping through walls, the echo effect, lock ups that cause your game to stop working... the list gets longer and longer with each play!
On a scale of 1 to 10, this game gets a 6.
On a scale of 0.0 to 10.0, this game gets a 6.4.
On a scale of 0 to 100, this game gets a 64.
On a scale of 0 to 5, this game gets a 3.
On a scale of 0 to 4, this game gets a 2.5.
In short, "Enter the Matrix" can be enjoyable, but it takes a hell of a long time to get to the enjoyable parts. Stick with it, and you may like it enough to buy it cheap, but the only ones who'll spend their hard-earned 50 bucks are hardcore Matrix devotees.
Contentwise: Obviously, being a Matrix game, there has to be some kung fu fighting and shooting, but there is no blood in this game. There is some mild swearing, and there's kissing in the live action scenes (and maybe other stuff, i don't know), but ultimately, this is suitable, as the Teen raitng says, for ages 13 and older.

This game is created at the same time as Reloaded and Revolutions and written as the 1.51~2.99 of the trilogy(1.5 = animatrix). What's special about this movie-game is this: all other movie-games are purely a re-implementation of the movie's story into a game. People watched the movie and know about what scene follows and who they will meet at certain point. Unlike them, "Enter" is a supplementary to the movies, same as Animatrix, is part of the story that is not told through the big screens or DVD or VCD or VHS(The Matrix).
There are many references back and forth to Animatrix, Reloaded and Revolutions. Some people watching Revolutions will ask: how come the Logos are suddenly there, down, and sentinels everywhere, it just pops out!! I will answer: no, it doesn't, it is explained in the last level of Enter the Matrix. Also, somebody will say that Niobe suddenly turned to Morpheus in Reloaded is illogical. But same as above, the explanation and development is here in Enter the Matrix: she is inspired by Persephone.
The most awesome feature of this game is not the CG or the many movie footage, but the actions. They are created by capturing the corresponding character's movement. For example, Seraph, you can easily notice that the fighting style here is exactly the same in Reloaded. Other than fightings, there are other stuffs like facial expression and even walking, are captured motions of the real character. The voice are also done by original characters.
People said that the characters in Matrix are too woody and lack of personality. By playing this game, you can find out many personlities of Niobe, Ghost, Sparky(I love this nick name), and some other characters.
Like the movies, there are biblical references. In one of the movie footage, Smith has refered indirectly to a verse in revelations. Not the same meaning but obviously the wordings are the same.
In the freeway scene, I was impressed that they even put the exploded Twin's car on the crossover. There are also many other details done to improve consistancy with the movies.
There's a hacking mode, which allows you to explore the Matrix as a hacker, which everyone in the movie started off as. This function allows you to make the best use of the properties of the Matrix, such as dropping weapons into the Matrix, learning new fight mode, etc.
*After completing all levels, there's an original trailer of Matrix Revolutions, which I think is the best trailer among the many versions of trailers and teasers.
Good and fun but no greater challenges.

Yes theres no neo morpheus or trinity but this game was fun and kinda challenging for some levels that I can't beat. I would say the ending was mostly dissapointing and predictable if you've seen reload. The action was fun the shooting at enimies is somewhat challenging and harder shooting at agent smith or fighting him. Overall I don't think this game is that bad or really boring just has mostly some weak challenges and a short storyline of the game. Maybe in the future they will create a better matrix game with less flaws.
Don't waste your money like so many I know

This is, in my absolute unbiased opinion, an embarrassment to video gaming. Although I suppose if I was more into action games, rather than a hard-core RPGer, I might like it more. Many of my friends and relatives have purchased this game on various systems, including PC, and out of all of them, only one was actually satisfied with the purchase. As for me, I played it for about fifteen minutes and turned it off. The camera was jerky, the lighting was bad (don't even get me started about that sewer level!) and the lead male character runs like he's heading for the bathroom. The controls are also surprisingly unresponsive (surprising because you move at only one speed, and there really wasn't much to mess up in the first place). The only thing that DID hold my attention for that brief dive into "The Matrix" was the action. While cheaply done and with frustrating combo controls, I will admit that if (the key word is IF) IF you do get a certain move to work, then it looks kinda cool. The story is very shallow and just plain bad. But then again, no one plays it for the story, nor did the majority of the masses go see Matrix: Reloaded for the story, did they? If you want an action game with a story, get Dynasty Warriors; if you want an action game with extra action, I suppose I'd even suggest Max Payne (shudders) over Enter the Matrix.

Enter the Matrix isnt just a game, its an interactive movie. Its the first game of its kind. The movie, The Matrix Reloaded, is told through three medias, the movie which gives u the general story, the animatrix which is 9 short storys about the matrix, and this game, which gives u an hour of footage that u can see no where else. Its a brilant concept yet how is the gameplay. I really dont see why so many reviews had problems with this game. In fact i think it controls great and it is fun. U actually feel like inside the matrix with all the cool movies Niobe or Ghost can perform. The only flaw this game has is you can blow through it with either character in about five hours. So in total its about 10 of gameplay. But its worth it. If u havent boughten it yet, go get it.
Just another movie tie-in

I am honestly a Matrix fan. specifically the first film, but the other two are a lot of fun nonetheless. This game was brilliant in its position as part of the storyline, showing events taking place aside from the the film. Even getting actual actors to reprise their roles was a stroke of genius.
however that trait alone gave this game the two stars i have awarded it.
First of all, its a third person action game, similar to tomb raider/max payne/etc. While this type has been well overdone, i feel it has a lot of life left in it. This however adds nothing new whatsoever to the game genre. nothing new or breakthrough takes place in the gameplay. the "focus" at first seems neat, butil you realize its been done before (and much much better) in max payne. you hold L1, everything slows down, you see bullet trails (not that you can dodge them) and some of your moves are cooler now (wall walking, flips, etc) but aside from that, unless youve got a third hand or a helpful friend, you wont actually be able to use it to dodge in any respect.
A film that broke new grounds for american kung fu cinema, this game's fighting style is ridiculous. in the films you have punches, kicks, aerial assaults, all kinds of super cool wire stunts... in Enter the Matrix, youve got one punch, one kick, and one throw. since the focus is on firepower, this couldve been ok, however the moves are so preplanned that once you hit a button, youll go into a crazy combination of moves that usually makes you pass right by your enemy and do a great move on some empty air, leaving your back wide open for a random post office security guard to smack you in the back of the head, just like i'd like to do to the designers.
form over function is a phrase best used for this game, yet it doesnt even fit, since graphically this game belongs on PS1. the entire game is filled with arms going thru walls, masks that dont cover faces, and other space confusion. the other major thing that jumped out at me was the lack of realistic movement. every character moves so stiffly and completely unfluently its ridiculous. i began playing as ghost, and seeing the real actor was cool....seeing the SNES graphics of ghost as a controllable object was closer to sad. backgrounds were so smoothed over, and the layout was beyond linear. basically this game visually is absolutely horrible. ABSOLUTELY horrible (if you insist on playing it, and get to the airport level (you will) youll see what i mean by no detail)
the sound, however is a redeeming point. blasting though my 5.1 surround, the soundtrack, sound effects and voices are near perfect.
unfortunately, you need to play to hear those audio benefits.
the more i write, the more i want to rate this a 1.
Focus dude ,Focus

If you don't care about graphics, story, realism, or sound you'll love this game. Here is the truth. The graphics are clunky, the wall textures bland, and ugly (some belong on the PS1), and when driving or rail shooting out of a car, the enviorement is so bad, it looks like they spend a whole minute on it. Dissapointing really
The story you'd think would be top notch, but it doesn't make a lick of sense until you actually see the movie. The characters will cuss sometimes for no reason, and everyone seems like they would rather go to sleep than save their lives.
The realism is terrible. Enemies shoot through walls meaning terrible collision detection, and some of the AI is dumb as a brick. You can usually just do some fancy move that is terribly hard thanks to the o-so-clunky controls, and wipe out a whole bunch of enemies.
The sound is probably the only good thing, real voices from the actors is great ofcourse it means strong cussing.
So why is everybody saying it is amazing? Oh yeah because somebody slapped the name MATRIX on it, and blind folded everybody.
Compare it to The Movie

I am a huge fan of the first and second sequel to the Matrix. This game was almost a complete disappointment. The first thing that really sucked is that you don't play as Neo or even Morpheus or Trinity!! Now, you tell me how you can make a half-decent Matrix video game without our favorite characters!!! The slow motion features were pretty cool. Some of the levels were really bad but some were alright. The game is pretty fun to fool around with and beat a few times but the storyline is terrible. It's like a little bit of Matrix Reloaded but changed around a lot to make it bad. I thought it was very disappointing but if it wasn't called the Matrix video game and it was another whole thing I would like it much more.
That is it!!! I have been unplugged!

I had a dream that I was stuck in this world where a bunch of people were trying to cram overly pretensious BS about whether or not this world was real and flashing eye popping SFX in my face to dazzle me but it was only to make it easier for them to raffle thru my pockets. But luckly I woke up out of their Matrix and returned to REALITY.
I am so furious!!! This game [is terrible]! Even for a Matrix fan! These people are obviously milking the first Matrix for everything it's worth and having obsessive fans drain their pockets over [this]! First reloaded was terrible, now they have brought out the worst game in the history of all games! Forget the graphics, forget the short plot WHERE IS THE REST OF THE GAME!? I played up until "Catching the Plane" then it just fades to black and never comes back on again! Did it freeze like the million of other times this game skipped and froze on me, I don't know, it just fades to black then nothing! Nada zero! What were they doing?! Did they check their watches and realized it wasn't gonna be out when Reloaded begins to they cranked up the machines to go faster than they already were?! Unplug yourselves people and come back to the real world before you end up broke surrounded by a bunch of worthless Matrix junk.
