It Could Be Better...

The gist of the game: a young girl by the name of Alyssa is about to turn fifteen, and upon returning home for her birthday, she recieves a disturbing letter from her mother to not come home from boarding school, and to keep a low profile until Alyssa's birthday has passed. Confused (and stupid in my opinion) Alyssa returns to her home, but her mother is missing; instead, a mysterious cloaked man is there and tells Alyssa that her mom is not coming back. Trying to push back any fear of the man -- determined, she starts searching for clues to where her mother could of went...
In each chapter of the story, you encounter one particular villain of a ceartain time era (along with countless ghosts and...moths?) whom is keeping a restless, but innocent victim/ghost from "going into the light." As Alyssa, you must use your wits and holy water, to find out how to get rid of these villains and to bring peace to the ghosts you meet in the game.
The gameplay could be better, because Alyssa runs (let alone walks) very slow, and villains catch up to you pretty quickly. The puzzles are not too hard to figure out (but if you need help, I refer getting the guide or looking on the internet for clues in case you get lost). The only means to fight off the villains is to hit them with holy water, otherwise, your only other options are to hide or find a certain spot to 'fight back.'
My Opinion Of The Whole Game: The story of the game is strong and makes more sense in the beginning, but after the second chapter...I think the story takes a bit of a downfall. Not only does the story get more confusing, but the villains become less...frightening to run from. Sure they still spook you from popping out of nowhere in certain places, but otherwise, some of those villains could use a "Silent Hill" makeover.
Also, the movements of certain characters could be more 'believable', for example: Dennis, Alyssa's childhood friend. He has to be the most retarted character I EVER seen in a videogame. By the way he moves, he's either been eating gallons of sugar, or on drugs (or maybe both!)
The villains could also have more dillagoue (whatever how you spell it) in this game. The most annoying would have to be Chopper, for he has basically only one line to say, which is "Nice Trick!"-- followed by this drunken-up laughter that sounds completely silly.
Last but not least, Alyssa's costumes. When you beat the game and start a new one (Hard Mode) you get a key to her dresser, and with that, you can change into different costumes. To me, why can't videogames ever give girls NORMAL outfits? I'm a girl, and it wouldn't hurt to see one wear a nice skirt with some boots, or T-shirt and jeans combo; and the 'secret outfit' can be pajamas or something! I know most games give girls sexy outfits, but this girl is barely turning 15 for crying out loud!
Overall, if you're a fan of Silent Hill and Resident Evil, then this game probably isn't for you. If you're the type that are afraid of horror, but would like to start off on an 'easy' one, then this game is for you. This game may not be as fritening as Fatal Frame or Silent Hill, but it still has its spooky/thriller moments.

Being a lover of horror/survival games, I thought this one would fit in really well. It was highly recommended by the guy at the video store "better than the Resident Evils or Silent Hills". Well, dude you're wayyy off! It starts out nice, dark and creepy, but loses it once the game gets going. The two HUGE downfalls are...first, what's with the controls deviating from the standard directional/button combo that was used for all the horror/survival games. It took half the fun out of jumping in and playing having to refamiliarize myself with using the joysticks (not a fan of joysticks). The second was, NO WEAPONS. Come on guys, what's the fun in not being able to kill the bad guys? Having to run and hide is a lame idea, especially if "hiding" includes standing behind a rocking chair in full view, and yet not being seen by the monster. Weak! I'd rather blast my way through a mass of zombies than hide behind dust-motes from a ghost. I do have to give credit where credit is due, though. The concept of having to help ghosts find peace was pretty cool and a nice challenge in addition to puzzle solving. If they work it in better with some firepower, I think it would make a really cool game. Also, the way she was hard to control when she got scared was cool. It added more realism to the game. Overall, it's worth a try, but don't let the fact that it's a capcom game in the same genre get your expectations up too high.

The game can be freaky at times. I mean, some maniacs chase after you and pop out from various places, but you can finish this game fairly quickly. The story is interesting, and the scare factor is all right. But at times..you can't help but laugh at how some of these "maniac stalkers", can be so corny and resemble some type of walking-character at Disneyland. And after a while, you don't get as scared. But if you really want interesting plot lines, or just want to pee in your pants out of fright, I suggest playing Fatal Frame 1 and especially, Fatal Frame 2, or the Silent Hill games...those are classics. But with any game video game, renting is always a good option before purchasing.
Better than the first two...

I wasn't sure what to expect upon buying this game. The first two were good, but nothing that could be considered classics. But when I started playing this game, I found that is was fun and interesting. Sure it does have a few problems, and the game is shorter than most other games. But in the end, I had a lot of fun playing this game. Clock Tower 3 is defienitly a step up above the first two. But will this game become a classic? Probably not. But, if not worth buying, it's at least worth renting.

Capcom has added another definition to the term, "Survival Horror". This time the major emphasis is on surviving one night of terror as a teenage girl with nothing to help you.
It seems to me that most of the critical issues about Capcom's newest entry is that CT3 takes a more realistic approach to the genre from the perspective of a teenage girl. Essentially, you are playing yourself, little miss average video game customer. There are no exotic 21st century weapons to use, and anxiety plays a key role against your better judgement. The biggest problem seems to be that you are going to be a murder victim; but you can still outsmart your stalker in Jamie Lee Curtis fashion by hiding, using ordinary household items as weapons, and dousing Holy Water for shock purposes. This is a very unique and disturbing approach, but dealing with the creeps is still similar to the ORIGINAL Silent Hill(which had a level of freakiness that is unmatched to this day).
Gameplay is easy. The button pattern is the simplest of action games I have ever played with button arrangement if you want, and good response with action keys. When you enter a room, you can actually open the door and get a decent look before entering. This helps if you don't like what you see, and to make a fast getaway; which is what most of this game entails.
CT3 truly tests the limits of die-hard "survival horror" fans by offering the greatest challenge so far: If a 15 year old girl can outsmart a serial killer, can you? If the answer is yes, then drop that Resident Cheater gatling gun and RUN GIRLY-MAN, RUN!

I have never written a review before but this game is SO LAME I had to put my frustration somewhere and warn other gamers out there no to waste thier time or money. Let me put it this way, it looks good, the idea is scary and intriguing, and the characters are even slightly endearing, but when you put it all together? Crap! The camera angels give you limited viewing and moving Alyssa around is jolty and a bit out of control. The boss fights are either too easy or too hard and there wasn't a challenging puzzle, and did I mention the game takes about 3 hours to win? I would have enjoyed this game about 4 years ago before I knew what an adventure game could really be like. Coming from Fatal Frame to this is a joke, and Beyond Good and Evil isn't scary but at least it's fun and Primal really stretches you for figuring out environmental puzzels and you care about the hero's. Play those instead!
Game for the horror flick maniacs.

I played the Japanese version of this game with great expectation as a horror game fan and it turned out to
be a nice horror game but has some flaws.
The director of this game was ( He's gone just after making this game) a famous Japanese film director. ( See for the " Royal Battle" - Mega Hit film in Japan ) So the game goes with horror
movie narative style. Blood gores are everywhere and the graphics
are Kodak film tone .
THe problem is- This is too much horror movie , not the game.
The girl is chasing by the monsters or freaky ghosts
and that's so scary. But she doesn't have any means to fight back but to run or hide. Well, in the end of every stage, she has the chance to fight against the ghost. But tha's not so
challenging and even boring.
Overall, this game is so scary and makes your heart beating by the frightness. But as a game itself, it needs some more.
So you'll see what I'm trying to emphasize.
Achieves new levels of idiocy

I liked the premise of the game, but this game was unnecessarily tedious. I believe puzzles and boss fights should be hard but fun, not hard and tedious. There is no internal logic to the game, which means the game is very limiting in its structures. What you can use in regular gameplay is different from what you can do during boss fights.
Other things that inhibit the game play is the camera angles. You don't know where your monster is coming from, so it could suddenly appear on your side. It seems stupid to see Alyssa run directly into the arms of your killer just because the camera doesn't allow you to spin around. And it doesn't help the Alyssa is slow, takes about 3 seconds to get to her feet, and is prone to panic attacks.
I liked the gore and creepiness of the game. It was emotionally pulling although some of the dialogue needed rewriting. The premise is not all the original but still enjoyable, but all this is inhibited by the gameplay.
I don't know if they're making a Clock Tower 4, but if they are, the developers should really study the classic horror games out there, and see why those work.
Great Game

I was pleased with this game. It had a novel approach to survival horror.
I do have a few complains/concerns
First it is a little on the short side. Not awful for a survival horror game, but still it could have been longer
Second, it controls very poorly. I found myself wanting a more Resident Evil style movement system in which the main character didn't change direction when the camera angle switched.
Finally, while the premise for the first two chapters is GREAT, the game really just drops the idea half way through. They had a really good thing going and then they only focused on the main character and her family which I found to be pretty boring compared to the cool serial killers in the first half.
Overall a good game, but just feels like they didnt follow through with the idea they started with.
