Haste Makes Waste

As a fan of the paper and pencil V:TM game, I was delighted when I saw the ads for this program. Upon playing this game, however, my delight turned quickly to disillusionment and then to the desire to put a stake through the game CD and bury it somewhere. My main complaint is that the game seems to have been released before it was truly finished. The most annoying example of this is the lack of an in game save feature. You can only save at your "haven" or use the autosave which saves each time you change levels. This results in having to either (a)re-fight numerous battles if you happen to get killed or (b) run back to the start of the level after you make some progress so the autosave function is triggered. Frustrating and repetetive to say the least. Also, trying to control up to four Vampires and their myriad powers in real time combat without a pause feature is frustrating, especially given the poor AI for non-player vampires(eg. casting auspex when 1 rat shows up). I have heard that the programmers are working on a patch that will address these problems but it's really something that should have been worked out before the game's release - another case of rushing the release a flawed product and trying to fix it later. I gave the game 2 stars instead of 1 because it is beautiful to look at and the plot is somewhat faithful to the original RPG even though dialog is limited and has little effect on the outcome of the game. Bottom line: unless you like retracing your steps numerous times, refighting confusing battles and poorly programmed ally AI's, I would wait until they fix the game or spend my money elsewhere.

When the Vampire game was released, i was a little worried. Could this game bring the atmosphere and the rules of the original RPG(like Baldur's Gate did with AD&D)? Or was just another simple game with a famous name just to sell more? Fortunely, my worries was in vain. Vampire: Redemption is a great game, with stunning graphics, great music and voices. The rules of the RPG was transported with great success to the game, altough you can't choose your favorite clan(Christof is a Brujah). There is some bad points about the AI(A hint: never put bows in the NPCs, because if a enemy is hidden behind a wall or something, because he begin to fire on the wall) and save system, but it can be fixed with upgrades(the 1.1 version, you can save anytime, anywhere). If you like vampires, or like RPG games, or a good game, you will enjoy it. It's anything more fun than feed of humans walking on the street!

Real Vampire players will get it.

When I heard that this game was in devolpment many moons ago, I was apprehensive because I had played Vampire the Masquerade for a couple years and loved the detailed and rich world created by White Wolf. After buying the game though, the pro's really outweigh the cons. First off, Activision decided that they would fraction the normal 'dot' system to extend overall game play by slowing the rate at which a character can grow. (Through truthfully, they could have applied the experience rules as is, but I see the logic here.) Veteran players will also notice a lack of Disciplines and some addational costs to usually free ones (ie. Potence and Fortitude.) in an effort to prevent abuse of them. (I won't bring up the lack of Skills, Talents, and Knowledge...)

I've heard too many people whine about the save feature, but I think that we, as a role-playing community, have gotten too dependant on save features. Save less, not more.

Hopefully, the worst thing about the game will be fixed with some kind of patch, that horrible Artifical Intelligence. Your companions will constantly amaze you with the way they 'burn blood' like it's going out of style. The comp plays NPCs equally bad to the point where sometimes they won't even defend themselves.

The best feature here is the limitless Storyteller mode potential. In the hands of a capable person, this could make for a whole new world on on-line gaming.

Summary: Lot's of hope for this game with some much needed polish.

A worthwhile game - almost...

I would have gladly given this game 4 stars - without even trying the multiplayer side, which I hear is very awesome - if it wasn't for one great flaw. I was almost 6 hours into the game, kicking vampire booty and taking no prisoners. Then, something happened. With my usual grace I accidentally clicked on the "New Game" button at the menu screen. I thought it was little problem, and allowed it to accelerate me through the first few cinema scenes. I waited until it allowed me to control Christof, then I opened up the menu to escape and load my old game. Instead of seeing my old saved game, I saw "Convent". Well, needless to say I was very frustrated and angry, mostly at the absolutely thoughtless save-game feature. I still may try the single player game again, but not anytime in the near future.

Best Vampire Game I've ever played

For those of you who enjoy a mix between classic vampire fantasy and an Anne Rice novel, this game is for you. Even if you've played Diablo till your fingers are numb, or you have never pick-up a game of this kind before, you will not be let down.

If you love Vampires, this is a great game. I never played the paper version, but the gaming system in this game is very good. The advancement system is nice in that you don't have to wait to advance levels to gain stats and abilities. Just get enough experience and you can upgrade yourself at any haven.

The graphics are pretty good, but there is something about the characters (human and non-human) that doesn't look quite right. The scenery is excellent though.

I run this game on a P3 450 with 96M RAM and only have slight glitches. Dialogue is occasionaly choppy, but gameplay is never interrupted. I love the main character. The irony of a Crusader now being one of the damned is great. Character interaction is intersting, but a bit limited.

Overall, this game is a nice addition to the RPG market. It's not the same thing is pretty decently put together.

Well done activision!

Two years ago I read a computer magazine which contains vampire in reviews section. It was amazing i like the story i like the characthers especialy i like the four cities. Two of them in ancient times two of them in modern times. After two years Activision released the game and ý bought it.It was the same thing which i saw in the magazine. In the begining of the game (after you bit by woman) the enemies are strong i defeated them hardly then the boss of the first place came and i tried to defeat him sixteen times so it is a long and a hard game but the saving system of the game is worse but you can use your spells to save easier (except the clock level in viena you can't escape from there and you can't use your spells to escape so you can't save).I think activision made a great game about vampires the graphics are very good, the spells(disciplines)are very good...so, if you want to play a great and a long, hard game choose this one.(so so so so so....... :-P

I can't believe how well they made it!

I am surprised. White-Wolf is doing really well. This game is very well and thoroughly done. You even start out as a mortal! Disciplines are nicely done and everything works great. The story is very good. I hope white-wolf keeps producing games like this one and maybe in the future the games will contain even more variety of disciplines and powers and higher limits to the character's powers. Oh one thing that did piss me off is the fact that they like to emphasis that it is a roleplaying game not rollplaying by not allowing you to save your game. OVerall the game is highly recommended. Not for children though.

This provides the perfect starting point for Vampire: The Masquerade lovers... Personally, I have always wanted to try this RPG and now there is a means of exploring this! It gives us a taste of the Pencil/Paper RPG. The drama and suspense combined with stunning graphics and sound is worth the purchase. I would have prefered to buy the Limited Edition version for $15 more to immerse me in the World of Darkness.

I found Vampire:The Masquerade-Redemption to be an awesome game. The graphics and sound are really good and the cinematics are pretty cool too. The part I don't like is saving. You either have to wait for the game to Autosave or you have to travel back to your Haven. This game is very much like Sierra's "Diablo" but more 3-D, more freeness, and more better. There are also more uniqe environments such as medeival Prague to modern day New York! I suggest this game to RPG and action lovers (the game heats up in the modern day). And if your geting bored and getting nowhere you can go [online] and get some pretty good codes from what I hear.
