Boy, oh boy. I can remember the day that I waltzed into Software Etc. with hopes of buying a great game. What's this? White Wolf has made a game out of a paper and pencil RPG? Well that's great! It'll beat Baldur's Gate, hands down! So I bought it, along with Deus Ex (a great game, btw). Anyway, so I got home and played it for 3 hours.
Hm... this kinda sucks. Well, I'm not even a vampire yet, it'll get better. Oh, was I wrong. It was even less fun when you have to worry about running out of blood. God, this game sucked so much, that I don't even want to finish this review.
I'll just say this. A game that stops you from going somewhere by putting up an invisible wall is not worth buying. Way too linear. No freedom. Please don't buy this game, unless you're Richy Rich or something.
PS: Buy Deus Ex instead!
A valiant effort, but well short of good...

I sadly remember the day when this game was released. I had waited long enough, and finally I had the game in my hands. I remember being so excited until about 1 hour into the game. It was then that I realized that this game was terrible.
The graphics were nice, and the cut scenes were above average. The voices sounded good, and the combat was a little fast, but adequate.
But I wasn't having fun. I realized that the game was pretty deep, and dwelling deeper into the game's cool storyline would require more of the bad AI, terrible - I mean HORRIBLE combat system, and scrappy mouse driven interface. I couldn't take it anymore. I wished I could just watch the game instead of play it, then I would of been happy.
I did what I had to do, and finally uninstalled it. I thought of all the money I spent, and went to find another game. What a tradgedy that a game with that much potential had to be ruined by an obvious rushed product. If your a gamer who likes fast action and addicting gameplay, then go buy Icewind Dale or Diablo 2, not this game.
Lived Up To the Hype

Usually I am not one to fall prey to insane hype around a particular product, I've had bad experiences in the past (read my review on the Blair Witch Project). But with this game, I had to succumb.
And I was definitely pleased. This game is really fun, a hybrid between Diablo and true RPGs. Some people will (and have...) grumble about some AI glitches and simplified battle tactics, but come on, what do you expect? The only other type of combat in a game is the traditional Side-view-lets-all-take-turns combat, which frankly is quite lamer than this game's combat engine.
The use of camera angles in this game is fantastic. At first I thought it would be a hindrance, but then I saw the err in my ways. It is a tremendous help, and can aid you in any rendering problems your 3d card comes in contact with.
The only problem with this product is the incompadability with video cards. But seeing as how I don't have that problem, I can't dock a mark.
For the most part, this game is great on storyline, it stays more tightly tied to the p&p version than most computer RPGs, and it is FUN. And that, after all, is the bottom line.
Heaven for everyone with a little imagination!

Vampire is really one of the best games there are and currently my favourite. The best part by far is the multiplayer mode: The server can play the role of the Storyteller ('bout the same as in Pen & Paper- RPGs) and customize any number of locations any way he wants. Afterwards, during the game, he can direct everything that goes on: Play every character, insert new monsters/items/treasure... in short, do EVERYTHING he'd like to! With a good storyteller and the Vampire theme (one of the best there ist in all of the RPGs I know), it's frighteningly easy to play for 12 hours in one go (I know it very well...). Afterwards, the players look like vampires themselves... ;)
Somebody needs to review the term Role-Playing

Okay, I have to admit that the graphics and sound are top notch, better than I've seen in a very long time, but the game is otherwise a disappointment. Unfortunately, after all the hype, the game falls short of being a role playing game. You don't get to make your own character (for the main game), the opportunities to make a choice for your "character" are few and far between, and the choices you make have little or no effect on what happens (I made different choices for the same thing and got the same result each time). The game essentially leads you by the nose. In addition, there are long, drawn out cinematic sequences (excellent graphics) where your character interacts with individuals, and you have NO CONTROL over what happens during these scenes. The single player game is a pretty decent hack-n-slash/shooter game with excellent graphics, and an okay interface, but role playing it isn't. There are no opportunities for real strategy, role play, or thought, and the multiplayer game that has the potential to closely resemble the pen and paper version (the storyteller feature is a cool idea) has so many holes it resembles swiss cheese.

Vampire Redemption is an excellent rpg set in White Wolf's World of Darkness. GET THE PATCH! (Available at a lot of sites including Activisions). Without the patch I'd have to give it around a 3. Mainly because out of the box the game has a number of gameplay problems, the biggest is not being able to save in the game anywhere other than your haven. This is annoying and hurts the game because you constantly have to replay dungeons. With the patch you can quicksave at anytime when monsters aren't nearbye.
The games graphics are beautiful with excellent lighting effects and player models. Your characters are large and really show off the time and effort spent on them with every detail rendered. The size of many of enemies is enormous.
The story follows a Crusauder named Christof as he deals with becoming a vampire and searching for his lost love Anestka. With a few twist thrown in, including one extreme one. The story is solid but half way through I was wishing for a more complicated plot than just finding Anesca. I was impressed with how the designers incorporated the history and clan relationships from the Vamp Masquerade RPG. Although it does seem unlikely that in a city the size of say Praque their would be around a hundred Vampires.
The music is well done and changes as you move through history. Starting out as Medeival and moving into techno. The combats handled much like Diablo so you its mostly point and click repeatedly. Overall the combats fast paced and entertaining but it has its problems. Your other party members have issues with blood use. They burn their disciplines quickly and often, usually on that rat that you can kill with one hit. Also later in the game theres not really any reason to take your other party members with you through a dungeon since your such a powerhouse. The game is real time so using disciplines in the heat of battle can be difficult, hot keys are a must!
!!SPOILER!! More time should been spent balancing the disciplines Magesty is grossly overpowered at LV5. The discription says that the enemies look at you in awe and thats just what they do at LV5 is stand their in look at you while your hasted and attacking with the blood drinking sword. I hope this wasn't intended since most other Disciplines are so weak.
Overall Vampire Redemption is a must buy RPG and definately worth your time, also the price has dropped a lot so its easy on your wallet.

I will not talk about the game playing, many others had already gave their opinion in detail about that.
I prefer to talk about the Editing Tools of the game (NODSDK Tools: NOT editor, Embrace editor, Chronicle editor). This game was offered with the complete java code opened (except the graphic engine), you can manipulate, change and create many new things, like skins for your multiplayer characters (NOT editor and any graphical tool), new maps as playing scenaries (Embrace tool), new objects, creatures and items (NOT editor and programs like Milkshape), create new automatic or manual Quests that can be played in multiplayer (Chronicle editor) and, what is more interesting, they can be created new versions of the game (MODs) that make the game better than the original. Much of the problems commented by users in this review list have been completely revised and corrected time ago by the players with their efforts (Activision released a patch to correct some bugs, but after that, abandoned the game to the player community). One of the most interesting MOD is the WOD MOD (World of Darkness MOD) that recreates almost exactly the P&P game.
The game has more than 4 years old, but it continously grows with the contributions of many people that play it and love it. Nowadays you can find lots of new materials in the web (www.vampdepobloodlines.com is a good place to visit and test part of the inmense contributions accumulated). This fact makes this game one of the richest games in Role playing, as it has been sustained by a player community working in an open code.
Almost a great game

Vampire really was almost a great game. Unfortunately, Activision killed it. Their support was almost non-existent, and ended far too soon. The game was released with some fairly serious and obnoxious 3d engine problems that cause characters to become irrevocably stuck in walls while the bad guys hammer away at you. As well, the AI that controls your allies is horrible. I cannot count the number of times my allies: blew me away with rocket launchers, fried me with flame throwers, or wated all of their ammo firing into a wall (yes, firing into a wall). What is sad and really aggrivates me is that this could have been such a cool game. If Activision had provided the level of continued support I have seen for games like Dungeon Keeper, or Diablo II, then I would still be playing Vampire. However, Activision just sort of hohummed it, and did not do a good job. The plot for the single player game is excellent, and the idea/implementation of the multi-player game is truly revolutionary. After this title, I don't think that I will ever buy another Activision title. It just makes me so angry that they ruined what could have been a very strong entry in the computerized RPG market. It also ticks me off that I played it for so long and finally had to just give up due to the frustration of dealing with thier poor AI and 3D engine. I give the game three stars due to the great vision from which it was obviously begot.
If only...

I've read all the reviews on here so far, and they seem divided. I'm sure I would like the game. If I could play it.
I have a brand new computer, which surpasses all the system requirements, except for the supported chipsets for the graphics. I'm a big fan of the VTM system, so I bought the game as soon as I discovered it, sat through the interminable install process, and began to play. Gorgeous stuff in the beginning. Then you hit the part where you start to take control of the action, and everything is gray.
This is a game I would gladly have handed over more money for than I did, but it's going back because I refuse to buy a new video card in order to play it. If you plan on purchasing this game, MAKE SURE your system is compatible, or you'll end up returning it unplayed no matter how much you want it.
One of the BEST games to come out in a long time!

Too many great things to say about this game. Excellent story, Incredible graphics and sound, extremely engrossing. The hardware requirements aren't too steep either. I am playing with a PII 300 and the game runs and looks beautiful. Bottom line, Nihilistic has created a steller and amazingly addictive game.
