I've played almost every game out there for online gaming and THIS (uo) is where it all started... thanks to this game we now have OTHER onlile games...Like it or hate it- UO is the godfather of online gaming. That said.

I've play this game longer then most people (on and off for 7 years) this game is NOT as dull as everyone thinks it is, there is SO much more then meets the eye, So much is hidden. the friends and gruops of people you will meet and get to know is amazing. Its not how GREAT the gif's are by today standereds they do suck...But its about the quality of game play and the freedeom you get from playing UO.

Enjoy.

If it's not worth it, why not ask the thousands who have been on for 8 years?

Like anything, UO suffers from flaws, if it was perfect you would probably have to sell off your life in some form to some type of demon wanting your soul for his dark lord but thankfully, UO is a true experience, first off, the game is built on a community rather than just a few pixels built around "the same ol, same ol" each day is something new. Every day you can potentially meet someone different and share a new battle that lasts hours with some close friends with characters you've taken much time and pride to craft into what YOU want. With 5 characters and 700 points to devote per char, the possibilities per account are fascinating. I have been playing for around 8 years myself a little after the BETA release and I have also been an avid fan of Square games, Namco fighters, etc, and only UO has kept me going this long and I suspect many years to come due to the length of time it possibly has.

Ultima Online: A role players review

I have played Everquest and Earth and beyond as well as a little know game called Avalon ...Online games, yet, the detail to which Ulima Online creates a world is well beyond any other game, on or off line...Example I have a character that is a tailor. He hunts animals and prepares their hides, then sews their hides into boots, shoes and leather armor to sell....That's not all...he collects cotton from plants, wool from shearing sheep, then spins it on a wheel, uses a loom and makes the thread and yarn into cloth...dyes the cloth and sews clothes to wear or sell, everything from hats to pants to kilts and dresses, includeing cloaks. He regularly rides a horse that requires feeding and needs resting on occasion. His weapons need to be repaired by interaction with Blacksmith characters. He lives in a small tower with furniture and everything. Now thats detail! He is a Paladin and lives by the code. The detailed game play of your fantacy is also enhanced by other roleplayers in the game...such things as greeting courtesies take on a whole new meaning with characters rangeing from paladins to necromancers and the latest in player designed characters. Whether you wish to design your own characters or pick from a selection, I think you will find this game captivateing...I would, however, caution you to limit your game play...this game can be a little addicting. Enjoy!

Ultima Online Rennaissance may be a little graphicly outdated for some of todays games, but that really doesn't matter. This game offers a more versitile and sentual world than any I have yet seen. You have more character options, continuously new patches and in game missions are being given, always making a dull day iteresting. Oh about the graphics, don't worry about it because you can always upgrade to Blackthorns Revenge or newer versions without loosing your characters or anything.

Boring, repetitive, pointless RPG

This is, by far, one of the worst MMORPG's... ever. First off, the graphics are ridiculously bland--and any animation that isn't part of the 'walking' sprite sequence looks horrible. The battle animations are slow as molasses. The background music is comprised of poorly timed midi files that play sporatically. Sure, this may just be the look and feel of the game, and you may think that you can ignore that and enjoy what may appear to be a perfectly good RPG, but there's more to it...

The battle system is just as bad. There is no EXP. Every time you use a skill, there's a chance of randomly increasing its power as well--as the intensity corresponding stat (There are three: Strength, Speed/Endurance/Dexterity, and Intelligence.) If you want to play as a mage, know that this game won't be that fun. The magic spells don't bring any fun to the battlefield (all of them are simple 2-or-3-frame animations that lack excitement, and they tend to fizzle when you need them the most--there's nothing more annoying than trying to cast a spell and failing continuously.) You have to pay for spell components (which makes it hard to make much of a profit), and the spells that you cast deal insignificant damage at a very high cost of mana. I've had to run away from enemies--even in the newbie dungeon when my magic stats were high--because I didn't have enough mana to finish them off. Even when your stats are at their highest, it is clear that spellcasting is more intended for support and healing rather than offense--which makes it very hard to play as a dark mage, especially since all others can learn magic too. The easiest way to gain mana and raise your INT is to click on a horse again and again and again--a boring, painstaking sequence. There are other similar ways of non-combat 'levelbusting', but all of them just prove that the game is a complete waste of time.

There are a lot of other skills out there, too. Many of which are completely useless and serve no purpose in the game.

You can play on a free private server if you stumble across one of them, but the fact that it's free doesn't make the game any better. I'd rather pay and be entertained than to bask in redundance for free.

All in all, this game has very little to offer. I got sick of it after a few days, and now see no reason in ever playing it again. Don't waste your money--there are far better games out there than this one.

UO, Free Shards, Other false Reviews

This game is not for people who are impressed by the graphics. I saw on other reviews that it is expenisive because you have must pay for the online service. Not true there are various servers that are free. All you have to do is buy the game then download the file needed to play at ...then apply online for an account and your playing. Ive also heard on other reviews that it is too hard because players just kill you then they take your stuff. Not true in most towns there is a guard system and if anyone attacks you then you call the guards (.guards) and they are dead and in some places they are jailed in a real jail and real time for up to 1 day to a week. If they do kill you then they cant take your stuff in a town anyway. Alex from USA says that this game is not fun because it has cheap grapics. It was made somewhere in the 1990's, but there are other versions that have modern graphics. In conclusion this game has somtimes been called the greatest computer game ever created and many who play it says that it is.

Ultima Online yet another faliure

Oh my god i can't even begin to talk about how boring this game is. All you do is walk around a baddly made and animated world, killing stupid creatures. Don't be deluded by the low price either, as a matter of fact the creators of the game will acctually leach money out of your banck account, about [$$] every month amounting to a stunning [$$$] a year. I'm sorry but WHO in thier right mind would pay that much for this, AND IT NOT EVEN WORTH IT. You go around getting whiped by super players that play WAY too much. but the wierd thing is even when u manage to struggle up to the top with these super players u get really BORD cos u can beat every thing. And i mean who finds accumulating virtual money, FUN and braging about it afterwards to your friend NOT ME. I would say more bad things but i won't but keep all i said in mind. :)

UO:R.. not for the weak minded

For a newcomer to the world of Ultima, this game would seem pretty boring and painstakingly hard to build up a character. But as you progress through the game, friendships are built and lessons are learned. You realize that not everyone is to be trusted and you build your character based on that sort of dependancy.

First off, there are many different towns, and 2 different facets to top it off. Personally, i'm a fan of felucca - a pvp (player vs player) oriented facet. It was the original facet of UO until more newcomers to the game began to leave the game because of tough gameplay caused by other RPers which led to the creation of Trammel - a pvm (player vs monster) world.

Second of all, the gameplay gets very monotonous. There is a limit of what's fun and what's exciting after you've seen it all.. which actually does take quite some time unless you know how to go about building a strong character quickly. That's what leads to the bad thing. You pay 10 dollars a month to have good clean fun.. but in fact, there are so many others out there that use third party programs and stuff like that to ruin your fun. If you can get around that then i'd say it'd be alright to get this game.

Of course, there is also the "reality" part of this game. You can get married, buy quite a few different types of housing, and a few ships. You can even make characters that can actually build things and sell them. It's actually kinda surprising how much a person would pay for some things.

Then there's the battle system. There are about 64 spells for the mages but the funny thing is that you would probably only use about half of them most of the time. Especially when it comes to PvP. The fun thing about spellcasting in PvP though is trying to figure out strategies and defense tactics against other mage combinations. If you're gonna get UO i strongly reccommend learning the magics of the game. As for the warriors, there are 3 main melee skills to master. Fencing, Swordsmanship, and Macing. Basically all you do is build up your skills to GrandMaster (the highest level of any skill you can go), go into attack mode, and double click on anything you want to attack.. Not much excitement there right?

Overall it's a great game. If you plan to fully enjoy this game i hope you have a connection of Cable or higher.. you're gonna be really frustrated if you try to play with a dialup connection as this game really puts a strain on your connection. Also, if you're the kind of person that will get bored from repetitive gameplay and hate rather harsh playing conditions, i suggest you go buy something else. There are a lot of things that i haven't covered because it's all just stuff you're gonna have to find out for yourself. I guess the only other downside is that you'd be paying 10 bux a month for your account. So really think before making a decision.

IT FREAKING ROCKS!!!!!

I play and play and play and play because it's so addictive. ... It will be the greatest game you've ever played. The biggest reason it's awesome is because you can talk to people from everywhere. ...
