Beats Rainbow Six in many areas.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 59 / 61

As an avid fan of Rainbow Six and the sequel Rogue Spear it's amazing that the former 'Police Quest' series 'sequel' SWAT 3 is just that good!

The interface is very much like Rainbow Six the only difference is that you can junk that planning interface that most players shoot through anyways. You get right into the nitty gritty of getting gear and getting down to business! The great thing about this game is that it's LAW ENFORCEMENT and not just shoot everyone which is fine and fun but not highly realistic. With this game...you are encouraged to take suspects into custody!

If you like Rainbow Six, spend the money on this one...especially if you like SWAT operations...you'll use tear gas, handcuffs, lockpicks...you name it...you are not limited by the 4 cargo spots on rainbow six...these guys and gals pack it on!

Law enforcement officers will love the situations like home invasions and domestic disputes...defiently real world...every day situations!

SWAT 3: CLOSE TO THE BEST GAME EVER

I was skeptical at first. I wasn't sure whether or not to buy this. Some people said it was the best and others said it was the worst. I went in order of my instinct for a good shooting/strategy game. First I went for Delta force 2. It was decent. The graphics were ok and the missions left something to be desired. Then I went for the new rogue spear. That was a great game. It had strategy, great graphics, and good sound. But I still had this urge to try SWAT 3. So I got my guts and tried it. Let me tell you... SWAT 3 is by far the best game I have ever played. With over 15 missions to choose from. The graphics are astonishing. They are extremely crisp and clear. (I do recommend you have 3d card, though, or else it will probably lag.)The sounds are amazing too. They're very realistic. In this game you basically take control of 4 other swat officers. You are the swat leader. You command them to do everything. You can tell them to do anything, from arrest someone to knock down a door. Each mission you get is very unique in it's own way. You go from a private residential house to a church to a convention center to an airport tower to a dance club and that's less than half of them. The ONLY downside to this game is that you can't see your gun.... but who cares, everything else in the game makes up for that! This game is the best game I have ever played and anyone who likes a good RPG/strategy/shooting/law enforcement game is urged to buy this one of a kind game.

SWAT 3: The closest simulation to actually being there.

Swat 3 is an exception simulation. Being a law enforcement officer I can attest that SWAT 3 is exceptionally detailed and authentic, right down to the unknown woman jumping out of the bathroom in nothing more than a towel, just after you gain entry. The programmers did a fantastic job and portray the true dangers and difficulties of being a SWAT officer. Being a SWAT officer is about making calculated decisions to ensure the safety of the hostages, the officers and the hostiles(unless they place you in immediate danger), not just randomly running around shooting up the location and the bad guys. If you like shoot 'em up type games, this game isn't for you, try Rogue Spear or Delta Force. If you want a strategy simulation that makes you think and requires you to act appropriately, then SWAT 3 is the game to try. Stay safe!

Good squad game. Great AI. Not enough tension...

SWAT 3... good game, but it doesn't give me the sense of realism and tension that Rogue Spear is giving me. Don't get me wrong. I love SWAT 3 and I'm playing it and if you liked Rogue Spear and you would like to try a good squad-based game, SWAT 3 is a great choice. SWAT 3 has definetly better AI than RS. On the other hand the game's scope is totally different from RS: RS is a game based on spec-ops groups and you are supposed to go in and kill everybody standing in your way as fast and as silently as possible. SWAT 3 on the other hand is based on police actions. This implies that you have to respect and enforce the law (unlike the guys in RS which go above and below the law when necessary). In order to carry out missions in SWAT 3 you need the support of a proactive AI that helps you arrest the baddies and that shouts at them to drop the weapons, and cuffs them for you (and this is usually more complex than just killing them). This means that the AI HAS to be better, and it is. Still, in spite of all this, I don't get the tension and gut wrenching feeling of hunting and being hunted at the same time that I get in RS. In SWAT you get the 'warmfuzzy' feeling that you are law enforcement and that in the end good will prevail. Over all I think that the game is good and dynamic but I think that they sacrificed realism for playability. It's still a good game and I reccomend it (in second place after RS, that is). PS: I just love that 'spying' mirror that helps you peek around the corners!

Rogue Spear is nothing

As soon as I heard of the game SWAT 3 I knew it was gonna be a great strategic challenge. I played rogue spear the other day when I was online and I realised that ROGUE SPEAR is just the same thing as RAINBOW SIX.But the diffrence between the SWAT series is big and always hours, days or even month of fun. Sierra also announced for the SWAT 3 multiplayer pack probably being released with the mission pack July 2000 to make all of our computers out there capable for swat action on the net! All in all this game is a lot better than other games it's type and has an unbeatable price.

My pick SWAT 3

The realism in this game is outstanding. From the Stack command all the way through to the "let'em hang". It is a fun game to play.

Police Swat 3

SWAT 3 is Sierra's 3rd try in the world of Special Weapons And Tactics, and this entry hits the target with all guns blazing. The game is composed of 16 missions which can be played through in sequence in career mode, or individually in mission mode. This is great because after completing the game's campaign, you can go back and easily re-play your favorite missions.

The game is very realistic. You (the SWAT leader) clean up the streets in preparation for the Nuclear Abolishment Treaty, and stopping those that would like to see said Treaty crumble. One faction that keeps coming up is Sovereign America, a Right-wing fascist militia group, other terrorist groups play their hands as well against various political members that plan to be at the Treaty signing, and it's up to you to make sure those diplomats are safe when Global Peace Day is finally recognized.

The game play is seen from the Element (the Team) Leaders view (yours), thus it can be said that this game is technically a first person shooter. Command options are located in the top-right corner of your screen, and are accessed by pressing a corresponding number key. Basically, point your reticule at an object (person, door, weapon etc.), press a command key and watch as the team members obey your every command. Yea, tell them to search, they will, to open a door, they do it. Speaking of Leadership, the better you treat your soldiers and the less they get wounded, the better they'll listen to you in a life - threatening situation.

Character models are realistic, and objects in the far distance are visible, weather and daytime lighting are accurate. The sounds of gunfire and other ambient effects are above average. Music will change depending on the Tactical Mode. Yet as we're so immersed in the game play, we'll hardly notice, right?

Get this now, a truly excellent addition to the genre of tactical action games.

Delightful Artificial Intelligence!

Knowing a little bit of SWAT tactics myself (not much, but enough to know they're authentic), I loved seeing how much they had researched the movements that real SWAT teams use -all the programmers who had something to do with AI had to have some training-. When I first started up the demo (I have to admit, all I have played is the demo), I almost squeeled with delight when I saw the artificial teamwork. The way they stacked up on the store front glass door, and started yelling at the terrorist within -and when he didn't comply they shot throught the door- the way they slammed the door open, and started combing the room -which was the best part- by searching all the corners in just the way a real SWAT member would. The fact that you could have them slowly open a door, and "mirror" a room to check for susspects... the way they entered a room by splitting up and going to both corners and looking several directions while doing so, while the rear gaurd stayed behind in the other room watching your back. The way they slowly walked down a corridor, leaning around corners to make sure it was safe to go on, checking with you periodically saying "Element is behind you." Was all delightfully amazing. One complaint. That is that the graphics engine seemed a bit slow (I have a K62 3D Now! 300 Mhz. with 64 MB RAM and a Voodoo Banshee with 16 MB vid Mem.). The reflections in mirrors being software rendered didn't help. Other than that, it is a GREAT game... and I would recommend it about Rouge Spear, seeing that it is more realistic since the whole point isn't to KILL the suspect, and THEN save the hostage.

Great for the would be Swat member with a different calling

I've got to say that I've always had a fascination with Swat work, but alas I'm more of a music minded person than anything. I believe this game has given me a "taste" of maybe what it would've been. I'm a police augmentee and where I work when I'm called, nothing exciting happens. In the game, as the Element Leader, the game is such that you need to constantly think about the "morale" of your team members. If you make stupid decisions, you lose a bit o' respect and based on a declining leadership score, your team members are a bit reluctant to act. Thus the pressure is on to be decisive and effective. The variety of scenarios: store front, bank, cathedral, residence, hit close to home as I've often thought about what it might be like to try to take on situations that I see on 'Cops', 'Inside Report', etc. Warning: It's ADDICTIVE. In fact, I'm gonna go play it right now! End of transmission, Dragon, clear.

Visually stunning and very enjoyable!

Swat 3 is unlike any police work game. This one happens to be more realistic and even more enjoyable. The characters you encounter are very intelligent, and you and your fellow SWAT members get the chance to actually do what real SWAT members do. What's great about this entry into the SWAT series, is that it's in first person view, rather than SWAT 2's overhead view. I also liked the fact you can do something else besides taking the Doom and Quake approach of shooting all targets on the screen...is this you actually make arrests and interact with your suspects. I highly recommend it!
