Though this game came out in 2000,it is still very fun to play.
The graphics is excellent, the sound effects also.
Basically,you are a S.W.A.T. team leader,and your objectives
may be anywhere from arresting suspects, rescuing hostages, finding dangerous bombs and weapons, and more.
The most enjoyable part of SWAT3,is the ability to tell you 5-man team what to do,like "cover you","pick locks","clear bang and search" etc...
The ability to play over LAN in a real-person team effort, with AI team players,to solve mission is a big bonus.

I have to say that this game would be one of the best PC games out there. Now, it is rated Mature, but it could stand a little more Juicing to live up to its rating. For instance, If you shoot a perp, its not to life like. You can however enable the NC17 option, but that really makes it Phoney looking. The blood doesn't look life like at all. It just kinda splatters around the dead perp. But, on the other hand, body movement, gunfire, grafX and game play are pretty intense. You find yourself cursing it out and playing it again and again. This one Rates high on my "Must have" list for all you gamers.

This game took a long time to master because it is very hard. Unlike most games, this game does not give the player any way to recharge health or save games in the middle of a level. It has no way to get extra lives, either. The only unrealistic thing in this game is that when the red or blue team goes around a corner, they turn there back to the opening they are walking into instead of leaving their backs to the walls like all police do. I would also like to point out that of course the briefings aren't one hundred percent accurate. In real life, before going into a building, the police don't know exactly how many people are in the building. Also, of course there are many buttons that do different things. Without all these buttons, the player couldn't pick up guns or tell the backup groups what to do. This is a great game, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids under fourteen. My neighbor, who was under fourteen, started shooting his back up because he thought it was funny. Anyway, this is a very realistic and fun game!

If you (like me) were one of the few unfortunate people that made the mistake of buying SWAT 2, and are hesitating about buying this one, let me tell you something: the only error with this game would be not to buy it.
Swat 3 is something special. I can only say: WOW!
I never really liked shooter games, untill I played this game. First of all, this isn't a shoot-at-will-as-you-walk game. You don't go around killing all the suspects and terrorist you may face.
This is a SWAT game and as in real life the main objective is to preserve life. You have to lead your team ensuring their safety, rescuing hostages and arresting suspects.
There is enough action to keep you entertained for a long time. You want action? How about trying to stop a group of terrorists from blowing up the airplanes flying over LAX? Or rescuing church and government leaders from the hands of political extremists?
The most important thing about this great game is that is easy to play. You dont waste a lot of time putting your team together and selecting the equipment you will use (like in the mediocre SWAT 2).
You are put in command of a SWAT team consisting of a 5 officers divided in two teams, one blue and one red. You are the element leader and must give orders to your officers with a very simple command menu that allows you to act quickly if the game action requieres you to do so (and believe me it constantly does).
The use of the artificial intelligence (AI) is great. You can play a mission over and over and the bad guys will be hiding in different places, the hostages will not be trapped in the same rooms, and the suspects won't react the same way. For example, you found a man in a bathroom that lowered his gun as soon as you told him to? Dont be fooled, the next time you see him he may blow you away! This is important to remember because if you are in career mode your injured officer wont be available for your next assignment.
This game is simply amazing. I never expected Sierra to create such an entertaing and challenging game after the failure of SWAT and SWAT 2.
I almost forgot, buy the Elite Edition, not this one. SWAT 3 EE has new features, missions and new stuff that makes the game more challenging and fun to play.
The only way to get closer to the action of a SWAT squad would be to join the L.A.P.D.
BUY THIS INCREDIBLE GAME. YOU WONT REGRET IT!
BEST GAME EVER!!

this is the best game I have ever played. it is set in Los angeles in 2005, and you have to rescue people like important billionare businnes men and government people. you are the swat leader and you have a team of 4 fellow swat officers. you can give orders to your 4 teammates using # 1-9. for example, you tell them to open the door, they do it. you tel them to search the room, the do it. you tell them to cover you, they do it. you also have one automatic rifle, one pistol, flashbamgs, gas bombs, glowing sticks, a pocket knife, handcuffs, and a mirror to look around corners to see if there is any suspect. you have the choice to do a career, which means missions gradually get harder and harder, or you can do a campain, which means you choose the mission you want without starting from the easyest. the AI is wonderful! the suspects are always in a different place, or one time they shoot at you and one time they surrender. the downsides, there are only 16 missions, you can't see your own weapon, and there is no multy player. in swat3 Elite Edition there are 21 missions and there is multy player, but Swat3 CQB is still a great game and everyone should have one! ... ...
The best game ever no matter what those other reviewers say.

I must say that this is the best game I have ever played in my entire life. The people in this game act like real people, if you shoot at your team they shoot back, if you give "dumb commands" or commands that dont make sense then the team will not give you as much respect. The graphics in this game are so good its scary. I made the mistake of eating a string cheese while in what i thought was a safe spot in a game. thats when i figured out that the baddies have patrol routs. I almost swalloed the whole thing when he place his nine milly bullet between my eyes. i heard someone say the game was too slow... well lets think here what does a swat team do... they take out people holding hostages that are in buildings. now do i "A" go in as fast as possible and make lost of noise so they know im comming, or do i "B" go in slow and use sillenced weapons so that i have the surprise. honestly i think some of the other people that reviewed this game are just stupid, heck the game got 2nd place for game of the year in 1 mag and 1st place in 3 others. what do you want a game that is so real if you get shot you do die in your chair and fall back! give me a break!

This is the best game i own. I played this for so long that my eyes turned red and i couldn't see anything. The graphics are superb. When you play a different mission it is almost always in a different scenario or it has different objectives. The sound is great because you can hear everything that is going on. It gives you a real idea of what it might be like to be a police cop because of how much details they add to the game. THIS IS THE BEST GAME AND EVERYONE SHOULD OWN IT!
