Visually stunning and very enjoyable!

Swat 3 is unlike any police work game. This one happens to be more realistic and even more enjoyable. The characters you encounter are very intelligent, and you and your fellow SWAT members get the chance to actually do what real SWAT members do. What's great about this entry into the SWAT series, is that it's in first person view, rather than SWAT 2's overhead view. I also liked the fact you can do something else besides taking the Doom and Quake approach of shooting all targets on the screen...is this you actually make arrests and interact with your suspects. I highly recommend it!

First Person shooter that blends strategy with fun!

I played the demo for this game and instantly fell in love with it and had to buy the full game. The levels are each works of art, the level of detail is amazing. There are things like broom closets and bathrooms which most games leave out. The game control is awesome, unlike some team games, your team members actually do what you tell them to do--and effectively. I have played entire levels using only my team members! It is an extremely fun game that is different each time you play it because the enemies have artificial inteligence that makes them respond differently: sometimes they may surrender and sometimes they try to fight until the end. I highly recommend this game. I was never a big fan of first person shooters but this game is unique enough of that I couldn't stop playing it.

Delightful Artificial Intelligence!

Knowing a little bit of SWAT tactics myself (not much, but enough to know they're authentic), I loved seeing how much they had researched the movements that real SWAT teams use -all the programmers who had something to do with AI had to have some training-. When I first started up the demo (I have to admit, all I have played is the demo), I almost squeeled with delight when I saw the artificial teamwork. The way they stacked up on the store front glass door, and started yelling at the terrorist within -and when he didn't comply they shot throught the door- the way they slammed the door open, and started combing the room -which was the best part- by searching all the corners in just the way a real SWAT member would. The fact that you could have them slowly open a door, and "mirror" a room to check for susspects... the way they entered a room by splitting up and going to both corners and looking several directions while doing so, while the rear gaurd stayed behind in the other room watching your back. The way they slowly walked down a corridor, leaning around corners to make sure it was safe to go on, checking with you periodically saying "Element is behind you." Was all delightfully amazing. One complaint. That is that the graphics engine seemed a bit slow (I have a K62 3D Now! 300 Mhz. with 64 MB RAM and a Voodoo Banshee with 16 MB vid Mem.). The reflections in mirrors being software rendered didn't help. Other than that, it is a GREAT game... and I would recommend it about Rouge Spear, seeing that it is more realistic since the whole point isn't to KILL the suspect, and THEN save the hostage.

The realism in this game is outstanding. From the Stack command all the way through to the "let'em hang". It is a fun game to play.

Fun at first.........

Swat 3 is a great game. Froom the moment I bought Swat 2 Iknew any other Swat game that came out I must buy. With greatgraphics, sound, replay value, you'd think it would be a perfect game, the only think I dislike about it is this; Swat 3 is supposed to be a realistic game, not a bang bang shoot 'em up. Towards the end of the game, it's not so realistic. C'mon lets take the Tready Convention mission for example, C platoon, (another division of SWAT) just cleared the building and did a bomb search 2 hours earlier(as said so in the briefing). Now for the the most important event in modern world history, you'd think there would be top-notch security, right? Wrong. Somehow, in 2 hours, about 15 armed terrorists have sneaked in and taken over the building. Jeez, I mean stopping a bank robbery, serving high-risk arrest warrents, these all happen, but taking over the LA City Hall and planting a bomb on the top floor? The realistic game suddenly goes from realistic, to shoot 'em up as in the later levels, suspects hardly ever surrender, and will go Kamakizie yelling, charging, and shooting at you. But hey, i never said its wasn't fun. If I could add one thing to this game, it would be a Sniper option. There are certian levels, (Water Treatment Plant) where a sniper could really help if your pinned down. Sometimes, High Ground (snipers) tell might you they see a suspect holding a hostage at gunpoint. Ok, heres an idea, shoot the suspect, isnt that what your for? Snipers are licenced to shoot if there is immenent threat to himself, or somebody else. A little help please. Plus, I know Swat teams work in groups of five, but jeez, i'll be the LAPD would send more than 5 guys into a terrorist ridden City Hall. If you could have some outside help, it would make the alot better. All in all, Swat 3 is an well rounded package, and well worth the $...

Really Cool

I played this game at a friends house and found the graphics gorgeous. I just love the gameplay and even though the AI can be a little buggy it is incredible to see my fellow officers checking rooms and laying down cover fire. And I have played the same levels several times because it truly is never the same game twice. I played the rogue spear demo and found the graphics not nearly as detailed (perhaps the full version of rogue spear is better). Also rogue spears planning system can be as annoying as hell, and while it offers some advantages, I think it is more realistic to have a team going in on only minor info. It also really increases the intensity, whereas in Rogue Spear you can find a terrorist in the exact same spot every time. I think this is a great buy.

BEST GAME EVER!!

this is the best game I have ever played. it is set in Los angeles in 2005, and you have to rescue people like important billionare businnes men and government people. you are the swat leader and you have a team of 4 fellow swat officers. you can give orders to your 4 teammates using # 1-9. for example, you tell them to open the door, they do it. you tel them to search the room, the do it. you tell them to cover you, they do it. you also have one automatic rifle, one pistol, flashbamgs, gas bombs, glowing sticks, a pocket knife, handcuffs, and a mirror to look around corners to see if there is any suspect. you have the choice to do a career, which means missions gradually get harder and harder, or you can do a campain, which means you choose the mission you want without starting from the easyest. the AI is wonderful! the suspects are always in a different place, or one time they shoot at you and one time they surrender. the downsides, there are only 16 missions, you can't see your own weapon, and there is no multy player. in swat3 Elite Edition there are 21 missions and there is multy player, but Swat3 CQB is still a great game and everyone should have one! ... ...

Amazing: As Close to Real SWAT Action as You Can Get!

If you (like me) were one of the few unfortunate people that made the mistake of buying SWAT 2, and are hesitating about buying this one, let me tell you something: the only error with this game would be not to buy it.

Swat 3 is something special. I can only say: WOW!

I never really liked shooter games, untill I played this game. First of all, this isn't a shoot-at-will-as-you-walk game. You don't go around killing all the suspects and terrorist you may face.

This is a SWAT game and as in real life the main objective is to preserve life. You have to lead your team ensuring their safety, rescuing hostages and arresting suspects.

There is enough action to keep you entertained for a long time. You want action? How about trying to stop a group of terrorists from blowing up the airplanes flying over LAX? Or rescuing church and government leaders from the hands of political extremists?

The most important thing about this great game is that is easy to play. You dont waste a lot of time putting your team together and selecting the equipment you will use (like in the mediocre SWAT 2).

You are put in command of a SWAT team consisting of a 5 officers divided in two teams, one blue and one red. You are the element leader and must give orders to your officers with a very simple command menu that allows you to act quickly if the game action requieres you to do so (and believe me it constantly does).

The use of the artificial intelligence (AI) is great. You can play a mission over and over and the bad guys will be hiding in different places, the hostages will not be trapped in the same rooms, and the suspects won't react the same way. For example, you found a man in a bathroom that lowered his gun as soon as you told him to? Dont be fooled, the next time you see him he may blow you away! This is important to remember because if you are in career mode your injured officer wont be available for your next assignment.

This game is simply amazing. I never expected Sierra to create such an entertaing and challenging game after the failure of SWAT and SWAT 2.

I almost forgot, buy the Elite Edition, not this one. SWAT 3 EE has new features, missions and new stuff that makes the game more challenging and fun to play.

The only way to get closer to the action of a SWAT squad would be to join the L.A.P.D.

BUY THIS INCREDIBLE GAME. YOU WONT REGRET IT!

This game took a long time to master because it is very hard. Unlike most games, this game does not give the player any way to recharge health or save games in the middle of a level. It has no way to get extra lives, either. The only unrealistic thing in this game is that when the red or blue team goes around a corner, they turn there back to the opening they are walking into instead of leaving their backs to the walls like all police do. I would also like to point out that of course the briefings aren't one hundred percent accurate. In real life, before going into a building, the police don't know exactly how many people are in the building. Also, of course there are many buttons that do different things. Without all these buttons, the player couldn't pick up guns or tell the backup groups what to do. This is a great game, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids under fourteen. My neighbor, who was under fourteen, started shooting his back up because he thought it was funny. Anyway, this is a very realistic and fun game!

Rogue Spear is nothing

As soon as I heard of the game SWAT 3 I knew it was gonna be a great strategic challenge. I played rogue spear the other day when I was online and I realised that ROGUE SPEAR is just the same thing as RAINBOW SIX.But the diffrence between the SWAT series is big and always hours, days or even month of fun. Sierra also announced for the SWAT 3 multiplayer pack probably being released with the mission pack July 2000 to make all of our computers out there capable for swat action on the net! All in all this game is a lot better than other games it's type and has an unbeatable price.

My pick SWAT 3
