This is another old legend I used to play and I want it for my collection. Everything was great with ordering and I received it fast and undamaged. No complaints.

Dont buy this expecting what the picture shows! the product is not the anthology. only basic sudden strike.

I purchased this product expecting what the photo was alluding to. The product i recieved was only Sudden Strike, The first one. The photo as you can see has Sudden Strike, Sudden Strike Forever, and Sudden Strike II. So if you want the anthology... dont buy this.

It's a frustratingly mixed bag.

This game is both good and bad, so although it is frustrating you will find yourself coming back to it more than once.

To its credit the game gives you a mass of units and unit types making it enticing to WWII buffs. Everything on the map explodes nicely and for the most part the sounds are above average (except for the previously mentioned ambulance drivers).

But the overall game plan leaves a lot to be desired. As stated before the units have no AI whatsoever. The units are not true to life in either speed, range or firepower. Mortars can decimate everything including tanks, and AT guns can't fire 10' in front of them. But the single most annoying factor is that your units are literally blind. No one can see anything except the officers, and the computer is really good about hanging just back into the fog of war and blowing them all to hell. In fact, the computer can blow just about anything you have to hell without you ever seeing half the units. Strategy is out the window and a blind rush only works if you don't get surrouned. Save your money and buy it used - cheap.

I've only had it for 12 hours, but I've have basically got the hang of the games commands, and now I can learn the stragity of the combat.

Its well animated, its easy to learn, it real enough with out being overwhelming.

You will quickly learn air support is golden, and infantry do not like to take on panzers!

Two thumbs up

This is one of the best games i have ever bought. If your a C&C expert this game is not for you. Lots of action & excitement. This is a fast-paced game so dont play online unless you've played a campaign or two. Id prefer this game to people who are WW2 buffs. THIS GAME IS REALISTIC SO DONT EXPECT ANYTHING CRAZY!

Every one of the critics reviewed this game as OK, and I don't see why. I like it a lot! I'm a big fan of games like Commandos, Warcraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc. And I definitely think Sudden Strike fits with those. You really have to think about strategy when attacking enemies. You can't just send all your men and steam roll 'em! You have to use some flanking tactics and sneaking up to win. And RECON, RECON, RECON! Also, taking the time to train your men really pays off. The only thing I found odd was that a tank couldn't run over a soldier. They have to shoot them to kill them. Also, I would like to be able to zoom in to see my troops and tanks better. Other than that, I think anyone who likes an addictive "high-clicking" game will love this. But beware, it is a "Time Sucker!"

THIS GAME ROCKS!

I have not played many WW2 games, but I can tell this is one of the best. It's pretty hard without codes but even when you are invincible it's real fun. Very good graphics.

OK for Beginners -- very anti-German

I got this game for a Christmas gift. I thought it would be a nice addition to all my Panzer General, etc. type games: WRONG. The game is pretty unique with its real-time movement and the confusion of all those units moving and firing, but the game is very unrealistic and prejudiced against the German forces. Imagine fighting the Blitzkrieg in the early 1940's with no artillery (you have to steal the enemy's guns) and no Stuka bombers (one of the mainstays of the Blitzkrieg)! I was sorely disappointed because I prefer the German side in these games because of the lack of resources, but their dependency on initiave and ingenuity. If you prefer only the Allies and you want to win big every time over an easy, severely handicapped Axis opponent, especially as the Russians (note the heavy influence of Russian names listed in the credits in the back of the book), then you will LOVE this game.

Since I already have the first game I will try the SS Forever in hopes that it will be more realistic! But, in my opinion, this game is only for beginners and those unfamiliar with the actual WWII struggle.

What I've Been Waiting For

This game is what I've been waiting for. A game with excellent graphics, in real time, with a touch a realism. The designers must have a sense of humour too for if you watch carefully you will see infantry units smoke, sing etc when they standing around awaiting orders. All units are beautifully recreated from snipers to King Tigers.

You can play set missions or campaigns as either the Germans, Russians or Allies. My gripe here is that there is no carry over of units in the campaigns so you can't build up veteran experienced units which can be seen in say 'Panzer General'. Also seeing B17 bombers used as low level tactical bombers seems a little absurd and artillery is excessively devasting. However, I don't think you will ever find a perfect game.

Be warned this game cannot be played like Command & Conquer for if you do you will probably lose. You have to apply strategy, tactics and above all reconnaissance otherwise be prepared for heavy losses. You will have to learn the advantages and disadvantages of each particular unit type to make full use of them.

I found there was a bit of a learning curve involved with this game and the instruction book is too lightweight to be of much use. There is however great hints, tips and even walkthroughs at the relevant website...

Overall, a very enjoyable game and highly recommended if you have an interest in World War II.
