Armies clash in several battles. This time, they will use monsters to crush their enemies. And the gods will also help you!

The creators of Age of Empires brought us Age of Mythology! Then after that, they made the expansion pack. Years later, Age of Mythology and the X-pack was put in one box and was called "Age of Mythology: Gold Edition". And a while later, I got the game. Now, you should get the Gold Edition, it is worth the $30. But on with the review!

You start as 4 Civilizations (3 is added in the X-pack). 3 Major gods are in each civilization. Each god has different powers and abilities. And to advance in many ages, you must pick a minor god to advance to the next age.

Greeks:

Zeus

Hades

Poisidon

Egyptians:

Ra

Isis

Set

Norse:

Loki

Thor

Odin

Atlanteans:

Gala

Kronos

Oranos

Those are the major gods that you can pick. And that isn't just that; you can get a ton of myth units: minotaurs, scyllas, scorpion-men, Anbites, and more. And did I not tell you that minotaurs and cyclops can throw men?

Several god powers are in your hands! From lighting, earthquakes, to tornadoes and meteors. They can be used once (Atlanteans can use some powers twice or more.) Tornadoes are my favorite because when they enter a city, the devastation is heart-breaking for the enemy and their allies.

100 scenarios, online play in Ensemble Studios Online, and a map editor cannot bore anybody who is willing to play hard. Although I won a victory online after I bought the game because I was used to playing that hard. I like playing Ra because the pharoh and his priests can empower buildings and if you are attacking, the chariot rush is pretty good, and if you like defending, you should make elephants because a small number of elephants can hold out a large number of humans. Teamwork is very important to win a game, and did I not tell you that when you have an island, to put towers and forts on every part on the island. I lost my titan gate because I didn't save it. And what are titan gates? Titan gates and special and take a long time to build, and when it finishes, a powerful titan will be freed and they can turn the tide of battle! A single titan has 7000 hitpoints! But you can only create one! And really defend it because you could lose it to enemies. Always build heavy defence when building a gate, and when playing online, expect attacks.

If you are a RTS man who needs some chocolat for their ice cream, then AoM: Gold Edition is the chocolat of ice cream.

Brilliant Game Set, Fun at any Level

Absolutely fun game at any level.
Very good that they have the Mythology right as well !!!
It's a strategy game, but its enjoyable just as a game for games sake, and working against the Gods, and with them when it works that way, is radically fun. And you do not have to be a gamer to get a kick out of it.
Great Value at a sensible price. Awesome fun in so many ways.
You have to play it to know just how good it is, and the better you get, the higher your experience becomes.

Have you played Starcraft, Age of Empires, Age of Kings, Rise of Rome, or Star Wars Battlefield?

If you have, you should know what this is like... Create your civilization, decide what units to concentrate on, pick which god to worship, prioritize your defenses and your offensives, thats exactly what this is like.

Differences for AoE, AoK, etc, are that they have converted the game into 3-D, creating stunning effects of biuldings, units, rivers, and forests. Also it has a twist with the gods, so you may worship the gods of your choice, and become different advantags. There are three main cultures, each with different gods and sub-gods. They are Greek, Egyptian, and Norse. Each has unique advantages and dissadvantages, offering many hours of play.

After you are tired of the single-player and campaigns (that is, if you ever do) there is more!!! You can now easily log on to a server with hundreds of other players ready for a fight. And if you win, your rank raises. This lets you easily find the right person to play with.

Okay if you EVER get tired with those, just go to aom.heavengames.com, and over 100 more campaigns, maps, units, recorded games, and mods are ready of your use. Now with all of this can you ever get bored? Every preson will have a different style of play and there are SOOOOOOOOO many styles...

Now with all of this, THIS GAME ROCKS!!!

GET THE GOLD EDITION TODAY!!! SOOO CHEAP!!!

Great First RTS Game!

This game is great! The graphics are relistic while holding a mythic feel. The enviroments are beatiful, and it is a shame to chop down trees, kill animals, and build up the area. Battles are fairly easy and the AI doesn't fight often... perfect to new RTS gamers. The campain is well done. The cheats are too powerful for anything but the campain, however. For example, WRATH OF THE GODS gives you powerful god power. God powers are powers you can use once (with a few exeptions)which perform a number of results. The four culters are Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantis (which is only in the Titans Exspansion Pack)Overall, this is a great game.

WOW BEST GAME IN THE WORLD

This is the best game ever made. It is a real-time strategy game, which means you have an arial view and you can click on a unit (soldier, villager, etc.) or building to make it move, create units, or research improvements. There's basically two types of units: mortal units such as spearmen and slingers. In human units, there's cavalry, archers, and infantry, each of which is a counter to each other. There's also myth units-basically monsters, creatures, etc. such as cyclopses, giant scarabs, ice giants, and behemoths.

There are 9 civilizations: Norse, Egyptain, and Greek, each with three major gods. There are also minor gods, who you chose. Each minor god has its own god power(meteor, lightning, etc.) and myth unit. Overall, hitch your behind out of that chair and get this game!!!

Amazing strategy game!

Age of Mythology is probobly one of the best strategy games that i have ever played. Following along the lines of Age of Empires, you have to pick a civilization (greek god civilization mostly) and battle against your enemies civilization.

PROS:
1.Graphics
2.Great fun!
3.Music
4.Lots of civilizations to pick/choose from.
5.Addicting
6.Challenging
7. Controls are fairly easy to get used to.

CONS:
1.Age of mythology only works with a limited amount of graphics cards if you want the most enhanced experience in playing the game.
2.No online capabilities
3. If you suck at strategy games, you will find this game overly challenging when you are playing campaign mode.

This game comes with both the original "Age of Mythology" and its expansion "Age of mythology THE TITANS." They are both very fun and must be bought immedietely!

I know i did add a few cons to the game, but that is not enough to give this game a lower then 5/5 star review!

Hours of fun with just a touch of educational value

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 7 / 9

OK... so the comment of educational value might be a little much if you aren't interested in mythology and choose not to look at any of the context sensitive help, however if you do you'll be surprised at the amount of effort that went into the background that was documented for this game.

The game itself is a blast having grown from the same mold as Age of Empires and it's predecessors. The inability to zoom in closer to the action or rotate the camera does make it difficult to control at times. The campaigns that are included are fun, but have little replay value. This is more than made up for with the ability to play online and/or create new scenarios (can sometimes be a time consuming experience if you want to create something large) or generate them randomly (to get back playing quickly)

Having played the original Age of Empires for years, this game was a little hard to understand in the beginning. I wish the book had contained more explanatory information. However, once figured out, it is quite a good game.

Best computer game I've ever played!!!

This game is amazing. It normally wouldn't have caught my eye, but my younger brother was addicted and wouldn't stop pestering me until I gave it a try. As it turns out, I liked it so much I had to buy my own copy. The controls are very fairly easy to get a hang of, which lets you concentrate more on your stategy, attack and defense.
The campaign option lets you play through an interconnected series of at least 30 mini-missions(don't know exactly off the top of my head)which leads you in turn through the Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlantean lands; each with unique Gods/Goddesses, heros, and mythological creatures. You also get a limited number of "God powers" (lightning, meteors, earthquakes, etc) granted to you, depending on which God you decide to focus on with each advancement.
The Titans expansion included with this game was a bit disapointing with that campaign being way too short (with only about 10 missions). I finished it in only 2 days.
*By the way- the previous reviewer said there was no online play for this game, which isn't true. I have played online, even the back of the box states there is online play(which is free).
