I wasn't quite sure what to expect for this Star Trek real-time strategy game, but was pleasantly surprised. The game play is enjoyable, both single and multiplayer options and the game mechanics are fairly well developed. I wouldn't but this game on the same level as Blizzard's StarCraft, but it is a worth while to see the Star Trek theme in action. Check it out, you'll be pleased.
Buggy but good

I've been playing this game for a few years on my 300mhz and just loaded it onto a 600 mhz machine. It has always been a bit buggy even with the 1.2 patch but it plays well enough to be a good time. With the addition of the mods you can find on the net the game can be changed endlessly to keep you interested. I would recommend this game to any ST fan.
Decent game, when it doesn't lock up the computer

Locked up my P3 350 with 256M 5 times before I quit playing. If it worked, it would have been a reasonably good game.
Endless fun

Wow--what a great game. The graphics and sound are great, the strategy a blast --just 2 comments I didn't see below.
1) Even after you're done with the missions, by going into the Multiplayer area and chosing instant action, you can play against as many as 7 other Computer AI driven enemies, on a series of maps included with the softwear --so the fun literally never ends while you play game after game with no two exactly alike. The Computer AI is exceptional, and you can set AI enemies to ally with you or each other in a series of neverending combinations.
2. The graphics are not only good as the game starts, but by clicking on the "action monitor" window (that shows a tv-style image of whatever action is happening elsewhere on the board in a rotating fashion) you zoom into that area with the whole screen occupied by the much larger ships as they dogfight. You can also zoom in our out yourself. One criticism related to this --I wish you had the option of zooming out a bit more than what is permitted you, since it can be tricky to keep tabs on everything happening --there's just SO MUCH ACTION!.

This game has great graphics. The game could have better gameplay but you always play in multi play online.
One of the best Trek games but still not brilliant

Most Star Trek games turn out to be pretty useless (they do release a multitude every year) but Armada is pretty good as a real time strategy game.
The graphics are really beautiful, especially the cut scenes. You can imagine what a "Freescape 2" version of Star Trek would be like. However, the game plays in 2D only unlike Homeworld which is a bit disappointing. The graphics can sometimes jerk quite easily.
The control mechanism is quite easy to get used to and makes it enjoyable to play. As for the reported bugs, I've downloaded the patch from Activision and the game is running without any problems.
As a Star Trek game it also does the business of creating the Trek universe really well. There's speach from Picard and Worf and others during the cut scenes between missions and all the ships are painstakingly recreated in great detail.
If you're a Star Trek fan and like RTS then go ahead but there are better games out there in this genre, especially Homeworld.
AI is...stupid, but the missions are nice...

Well, it's...true that the computer is pretty dumb. You can tell that it's following a script, and thus play in a way that it doesnt expect. Basically it'll continue it's strategy of attacking your base even as you take out its expansions. Not a very fun way to play a game.
Then again, the missions are still challenging. The story line is absolutely awesome, and is one of the more compelling features of the game. Cinematics are breathtaking as well.
Online games are pretty fun just as long as you dont lag, and luckily the multiplayer games are chuck full of options (much better setup than Starcraft).
A word of warning. You probably will not get this game to run on your first install. You're going to have to get the patch, and all the latest drivers and pray that that will be enought to play...

Being the trek fan i am it took me a day or so before I noticed but... This game is exactly like Star wars: Force Commander. Despite the change in camera controls, this game seemed like the Star Trek expantion to the Star Wars game. To make it the most enjoyable my sugestion is to play the instant action only after you've beaten the campaigns. Otherwise a great game for the Trek fans and those who havn't played Star Wars: Force Commander.
