Disappointing

Although this expansion gives the availability of just calling and partially keeping a relationship alive, the amount of time to build and keep any type of relationship inhibits the availability of advancement in job promotions.
Our family is nuts about the origional and house party, but this one has dissolved that interest and hot date sits unused. We will uninstall this expansion so that we can get back to enjoying this game and hope for a better expansion in the future.

A must for the sims universe

I love playing the Sims. This is such an addictive and awesome game and this expansion is one of the essential ones that you have to have if you own the sims.

If you've played the Sims then you know how tough dating can be in the game. It's not the easiest to get someone to fall in love with you and Hot Date excels in that area. There are a ton of new options that you can do with your sims.

Before you could just kiss your sim. Now you can decide how you what kind of kiss you want that to be. There is the new downtown area that offers a ton of new options to the game and new stores. There are new items like chairs, hot tubs, counters, and tons of other stuff. There are some new clothes and you can do things like buy your date lingerie. You can go to Downtown and meet new people that you don't have to create like a jock or a blonde bombshell. It just adds to a fun and new experience to the game.

If you have the Sims and don't have this expansion pack then you are missing out. This was is a must so go get it so you can enjoy the Sims a lot more.

Great as always, but some hardware compatibility issues

This game is as great as all the Sims expansion packs. However, we found it interesting that on the box, CD case, and accompanying installation guide EA states that it supports Win 95/98 only. I'm running Win 98 and could not get it to work. Apparently I have a CD drive incompatibility issue (which includes a HUGE list of CD drives that aren't compatible with the new game, including ALL Plextor drives - see EA's Sims web site for the info....) and could not get it to run on my Win98 system. However, on my husbands Win2K system he was able to load it and it runs flawlessly. Interesting. We're upgrading me to Win2K and believe that will remove the CD drive incompatibility issue. But be prepared -- you may run into some quirks. (...).

But if you get it to run...it's a GREAT game!!

When I got the Sims Hot Date I was really quick to install it on my computer. It was a bit slow, but I think you could handle it. When I finally got to the menu screen I couldn't believe my eyes. You can Make your own downtowns and Decorate your shops. There were a lot of items to choose from, and A lot of new outfits for your Sims. There is also new wallpapers and floor tiles. I really think this game was fun, and enjoyable...

Save your money ! Buy something else.

I was looking forward to this expansion pack for The Sims. But EA/Maxis have tried to pack too much info into one small expansion pack. First of all it slows the game wayyyy down. It's fine if you just let the sims do their thing but every time you tell them to do something it pauses a long time and slows down. Also, now when you click to go to a house to 'play' a sim family it makes you wait a long time 'while everyone goes downtown'. Downtown is the new added area where sims can buy things and walk around and have dinner. But you won't believe it -- the 'dinner' is the SAME pork chops green beans and potatoes they have been eating for two years now. Those poor sims !! Maxis couldn't have thought of something new ?! They do get some type of dessert that's new if you order the full meal. Other than that they walk around and can buy a rose or an ice cream cone etc., or magazines that increase their interests that part isn't bad -- but for the amount of time it slows the game down, it really doesn't add much to it in general. I wish I hadn't added Hot Date onto my game. Maxis should have come out with Sims 2 with all this stuff in it so it didn't slow down the existing game so much. As it is the original game will soon be outdated. It is made for Win 98. Plus, the sims don't interact very easily any more. I try to get my sims to talk to the new characters in the game, which aren't very interesting anyway, and the new guys don't want to talk. So, if you think your sim wandering around downtown alone and buying an ice cream is worth ($$$) and a slower game, buy this. Otherwise I'd leave your game alone. Personally that sounds too much like my real weekends for me ;oP

Beware! Doesn't work on 2000 or XP and probably never will.

This game doesn't work on Windows 2000 or XP, and EA says they have "no plans at this time to make a patch."

I hope they have plans to file for bankruptcy if they continue to ignore new operating systems.

a TOTALLY new SIMS experience!!!!!

Hey, when I first recieved The Original Sims, I immediately wanted Hot Date!!!! When I got it, I got so engrossed, I missed out on tv and meals! It what makes this game soo intriguing! There's so many NEW items, and people! The downtown is a great place! You can buy your Sims clothes and go shopping with your friends, you can even buy your Sim, the SIMS game! How funky is that??? When you create your character, you get so many more heads to choose and outfits!!!! It's sooo fun! People may find technical difficulties, because if you want to enjoy this game more, u should have a fast computer like 1 MegaHert. (or wutever that computer slang is) I used it on my old comp and it wasn't fun then i moved it to a much faster computer, and it was sooooo ENJOYABLE! Sims hot date, u can do so much! Flirt, growl, pimp, cuddle, it's awesome!!!!!!! I hope you find this helpful!!!!!!

Oh man, I have waited forever for Maxis to give the Sim's a chance to leave the house. I have always wondered why there was no town, and no shops. I just can not wait until I can get this. I love it when they come out with something new, cause yes, the old ones get boring after awhile. And when the Sim's can do more actions with each other it's even better! I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait!...

Our Troubles:

My brother recieved this game for his birthday. At the time we had Windows 2000. However, Sims won't work on 2000. We upgraded to Windows XP, still didn't work. We were getting frustrated when I decided to format the computer. Turns out that Sims is real picky, if you have any Windows 98 platforms, format your computer!!!

About the game:

I like it a lot. It came with House Party, which I enjoy. We have had a lot of fun with our Double Deluxe version and cannot wait to upgrade to Sims 2 and/or buy more expansion packs. The game layout is easy to use, and relatively fast, although installation is a son of a beach.;)
HAVE FUN!!!
