Does NOT work quite right on modern hardware/XP

This game was extremely frustrating. On either of my PCs (both fairly modern and running XP), graphic elements in the game just randomly wouldn't get drawn. It's possible the game got patched at some point (and it's possible some versions of the game sold in stores already ARE patched and would work), but EA hasn't bothered to archive their patches for older games. In any event, I found it was very difficult to play in its current condition on modern hardware.

Inexcusable considering 99% of games run just fine on XP, and Simcity 3000 isn't even doing anything special from a technological standpoint.

Avoid. Besides, you know EA will just crank out another one within a few years...

As you may know, Maxis has released a new version of SimCity 3000, dubbed SimCity 3000 Unlimited.... The new features, like tile set switching, a map editor, scenarios, and even a scenario creator are more than worth the extra $.

NOTE: The one star is not for the quality of the game; in fact it is my personal favorite, it is just that there is a better version avaliable!

In case you didn't know, SimCity 3000 was supposed to have been an incredible truly 3D virtual city. But the developers couldn't pull it off, the system requirements were too high. So instead they quickly revamped SimCity 2000 with lots of pretty eye candy and some menu changes.

If you played the classic SimCity, then bought SimCity 2000, you were probably blown away by the improvements by leaps and bounds over the original. If you expect the same of SimCity 3000 compared to SimCity 2000, you will be very disappointed. So what if you can see some cars and pedestrians in the streets. Is that enough? So what if the menu has changed slightly. Is that enough? So what if there are some new buildings and features. Is that enough? No. Not if you wanted a truly new experience to make you forget SimCity 2000. And the system requirements are extreme for so few "improvements".

This should have been called SimCity 2000 Part 2. Nothing revolutionary, nothing to blow you away, nothing spectacular. Just SimCity 2000 in a pretty package. The developers couldn't pull it off and it shows. Wait until this ends up in the bargain bin.

play Sim City 2000 instead

I was a big fan of sim city 2000 and Sim City 3000 I am not. What sim city 3000 does is make me want to play sim city 2000!(yuch) That is an awful feeling after plunking down the $$'s. All I can say is that I know this game is a big compromise to the original intentions of the designers. if you remember Syndicate and Syndicate Wars, by bullfrog, you know exatly what I mean and how I feel about the crapyness of Sim City 3000.

IF SIM CITY 2000 DID NOT EXIST I would have rated Sim City 3000 31/2-4 stars.

Sim City 2000 is much better

This game may have prettier graphics than Sim City 2000 and Sim City Classic however the designers turned it more into a toy looking game. Being able to see the actual cars is hardly exciting after 5 minutes and it hogs system performance. I was really hoping for an intellegent game not just pretty graphics. Also this game is not a challenge. It is so easy to make money espeacially on full speed. With an endless amount of money it seems the game is won and is really boring.

I turned it on and my computer said want to load.... ok i loaded then it said play i played it.... couldn't play cuz i couldn't find my mouse then it said "system failed". Thats what i call fun HA. Well i got news for you thats not what i call fun HA. I learned that all of the buildings fell down when my city had an earthquake to HA. WONDER WHY IT FAILED SO SADLY. This actually hapended HA.

Fun at first but gets old VERY fast and isnt worth your time get the unlimited version for like 3 or 4 bucks more and enjoy.

I purchased the product from Amazon and received it with excitement to play this game that I had heard and read so much about. I loaded the game and enjoyed what I saw. The second time I went to play it, I got an error stating that there was a disk error and that my computer could not read it. I called the technical support about the situation and was told that it was my computer that was having the problems. Heaven forbid there game have the problem. Isn't funny how everything else on the computer works great except for when that game is loaded. He told me that it was most likely a problem with my CD-ROM drive. I asked if there was another CD-ROM drive that I could get to run this game, and his answer was that they were having problems with all types and that he could not recommend one.

I was basically told that I am out of luck and in the meantime, I am also out the $30. I guarantee that this is the last time that I purchase a product of this manufacturer. They will not stand by their product and when you have problems; it's, thanks for your money, now don't bother me.

Buy this product and it may work fine; however, take the chance and you may get screwed like myself.

It would be a great game if you could do what it says on the box. You need money and the problem is, you are never given enough. It has too much complicated financial stuff in it and before you even know it, you are bankrupt. Most of my time is spent waiting for money levels to rise. It would be a great game, if they actually let you DO anything. The sky is not the limit, its the money. Do NOT buy this game!
