A BIG Fan of the first...

If this is as good as the first game, it will be terrific. I have been a big fan of submarines since a young age when I read "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Many a Saturday, I will launch the game on my PC, go do some work around the house and come back when my crew signals there is an enemy contact.

However, if you do not like hearing the sound of the propellers of enemy destroying coming overhead as you are trying to dive deep enough to get under the coming depth charges, struggle to keep you depth when you forward compartments are flooding and you are low on battery power, hear the creeking of the hull when you are deeper than you should be to get under the enemy attack, sneak through shallows barely deep enough to submerge in while an enemy patrol is overhead as you head for a large naval base rich with targets, or put 7 or 8 torpedoes into the Yamato sending her down and then having to run and evade like hell while her 10 or so escorts are after you in anger for what you have done, I guess you will be bored.

really enjoy this game

Well, have seen some poor review of this game here at Amazon. Find this unfortunate because this is really a good game. The graphics are wonderful, and don't understand the complaints about bugs. I did not have any until I upgraded to Windows XP, and then had a crash problem when switching views. However, the tech support at Ultimation sent me a patch and that cleared things right up. Other than that, no problem. There have also been those complaining about the lack of a Dynamic Campaign ala Silent Hunter I. To be truthful, I was also worried about that, however, my worries have gone away, there is more than enough to keep you busy the way the game is lined up. Other additions, such as manning the AA guns and shooting at Sutherlands is really exciting. The addition of the passive sonar is great. crusing along at 1/3 throttle in Scapa Flow looking to be a new Gunther Prien, hearing the waves slap the ship in the 3d rolling enviorment is absoultely great! Try this game if you are at all into World War Two or Subs in general, the folks at Ultimation did a really good job with this one.
Thanks,
william

I've been playing SH2 For a few months and I have to say It is really great. You can fight a custom mission and choose your submarine map and encounter (sub, convoy,or warship). You can also fight any one of the missions at any time or you can do a campaighn filled with challenging missions. You can choose from an array of submarines including The type 21, (my perssonal favorite)The true silent hunter. The controlls are easy to use (I would Know I'm Only 12) and gameplay is simple. Enjoy this pimped game

Incredible replacement for Command: Aces of the Deep

Being a fan of the Sierra game "Command: Aces of the Deep", I have been patiently waiting for this game to be released for the past two years. I can tell you that the wait has been (mostly) worth it!

While this game isn't a true "replacement" for C:AoD, this game does fill in its shoes better than I had hoped. The sea animation is better, the realism is better, and the fun value is better. While there are a few minor things I would have changed/added, for the most part I find this a great WWII sub sim.

As for bugs, there were only a few minor issues I've found while running it under Win2k. The first problem (which might just be hardware related) was that I had to copy the entire contents of the CD to the HD and install from that copied data (I later deleted those files). Secondly, a bug occurs when I'm in the damage control room, and with a certain key combination the game displays a blank screen and causes the game to crash. Also, I've noticed that when I crash dive, sometimes I decend to 50m in only a few seconds. Other than these 3, though, I've found it to be more stable than C:AoD.

Overall, this sim is great and really gives you an appreciation for what WWII submariners went through (both the allies and axis powers). While some may say the graphics aren't that great, frankly I don't understand what they're talking about. Seeing how much time is spent underwater, overly complex graphics would just be a detriment to the game.

Best sim ever

I started off about 3 years ago playing silent hunter and it blew me away it was so good. On silent hunter the graphics were pretty bad but the gameplay was amazing. Silent hunter 2 has fixed all the problems of silent hunter. This game is amazing the gameplay is great and the missions are pretty hard so it wont take 2 dyas to beat. I have been playing about 2-5 times a week now for 2 months and i am not bored of it. The graphics in silent hunter 2 are better than silent hunter but are still not amazing but even with that the game is awsome. The missions range from recon to sinking enemy troop transports. I always enjoy playing the game. To sum it up: amazing game with better graphics than silent hunter.

Great Sub game if you're into U-Boats

Personally I love submarines and I have been waiting for this game for awhile. The graphics on the outside of the sub aren't that sharp but on the inside they are much better. The action can get tense but the worst part is getting to your destination. Also for most of the U-Boats the torpedoes take an extremely long amount of time to reload and that can be a pain but I get used to it. However overall it's a realistic and fun game

Very fun game. I love it (so far!!)

After reading some of the reviews in this site I regreted to have purchased SHII. It wasn't fun to read all those dissapointing messages about buggs and so on. With not much hope I installed SH and I am happy to say that so far everything is going well. I am following the training sessions and all I can say is that my 11-year old son and myself are really enjoying the game. We love the graphics and enjoy browsing through the helm controls and the many other controls of the submarine. I think this game is very fun and now I don't regret to have purchase it.

Same as the first?

I found the game quite challenging. I have found numerious enhancments to increase the screen resolution, improved torpedo wakes, oil slicks, and better secondary explosions. I joined the Wolfpack league and there are a multitude of enhancements that out there to improve the game and game play. I find it quite a "sweating" experince. Nothing like being "pinged" by a DD or DE that is really out to get you.

There are also a multitude of add on single player missions, and multiplayer missions out there, and they keep the action level up. I also have modded the rain and storm problem with another add on all long with improved scenery. I am having a blast with the game. I bought it at the same time I got Destroyer Command, and I enjoy them both.

Played the first Silent Hunter and LUUUUUUVED it . Been waiting for over 2 years for Silent Hunter 2 with "6" pre-orders to my name in those 2 years (all have been cancelled). If the game EVER appears on the store shelves it should be a real WINNER . For now Iam pretty content with the new release of "Sub Command" (it too is great) . I still look forward to Silent Hunter 2's release .

*UPDATE*
Good but not great , worth a bargin bin buy .
