I remember this game from the days of DOS. If you like war simulation games, you will love this one. After playing this game, you have to give credit to the guys that served on these boats! You truly feel like you are there!

If its anything like the first one.

If its anything like the first one this game ought to be great! I used to play the first one for hours. Just sitting there lerking out in the deep water for a fleet to come by. I'm hoping they fixed a few bugs and gave it a great enhancement. This game should be good. Lets just hope that its worth the wait....

A BIG Fan of the first...

If this is as good as the first game, it will be terrific. I have been a big fan of submarines since a young age when I read "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Many a Saturday, I will launch the game on my PC, go do some work around the house and come back when my crew signals there is an enemy contact.

However, if you do not like hearing the sound of the propellers of enemy destroying coming overhead as you are trying to dive deep enough to get under the coming depth charges, struggle to keep you depth when you forward compartments are flooding and you are low on battery power, hear the creeking of the hull when you are deeper than you should be to get under the enemy attack, sneak through shallows barely deep enough to submerge in while an enemy patrol is overhead as you head for a large naval base rich with targets, or put 7 or 8 torpedoes into the Yamato sending her down and then having to run and evade like hell while her 10 or so escorts are after you in anger for what you have done, I guess you will be bored.

Same as the first?

This game has been due out for two years, but has met with many delays during development. Also, I believe the software company producing it has been bought out (possibly twice) during the past two years. The current date may say Sept, but don't hold your breath. With due respect to Amazon, do not order this game until it has been released. Hopefully, the developers have used the extra time well and we'll have a really great game when it finally comes out. The 3D graphics are supposed to be excellent. Patience is a virtue.

I couldn't buy it.

The game may be great but, for what it's worth, although I was a fan of GATO, that old DOS sub game, I couldn't buy a game in which I torpedo American and British shipping. I just couldn't do it. There may be others like me who will wait for a realistic American based sub game, even against an imaginary enemy.

There is a limited market for this type of thing - and I do not want to be part of it. I enjoy submarine simulations, however I do not want to hunt down and destroy friendly forces. I will buy other products that at least try to conform to traditional values. It is hard enough these days to instill a sense of tradition and fair-play in our youth. Software games should try to reinforce good values, traditions and taste.

Wow, The game looks great and ww2 era is the most interesting period for subsims.I heard some of you couldn't just play it because you play german side.As for me, it's not a problem at all.Playing a game german side doesn't mean your a nazi.the game is great and the u-boot period is the most interesting submarine era.I personnaly owned a Mauser k98 rifle (ww2 germany regular rifle) being a regular shooter and competitor. While this rifle has seen combat, possibly killed some guys in the french army ( i'm french)doesn't means i'm a french traitor and a nazi. The rifle's great, that's all.No matter if it's german or american.

Will it EVER be released ???

Played the first Silent Hunter and LUUUUUUVED it . Been waiting for over 2 years for Silent Hunter 2 with "6" pre-orders to my name in those 2 years (all have been cancelled). If the game EVER appears on the store shelves it should be a real WINNER . For now Iam pretty content with the new release of "Sub Command" (it too is great) . I still look forward to Silent Hunter 2's release .

*UPDATE*
Good but not great , worth a bargin bin buy .

To Play or Not to Play

I read with amusement the comments about playing a U-Boat Captain. I was three when WWII started and grew up hating Hitler, U-Boats and Japanese. I also spent 2.5 years in Vietnam.

To its detractors I say get real. It is only a game. Play it and enjoy it and if you are serious about not being a German then get killed every time or buy Destroyer Command and pitt your skils against the U-Boats.
