Silent Hunter 2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 10

I found the game quite challenging. I have found numerious enhancments to increase the screen resolution, improved torpedo wakes, oil slicks, and better secondary explosions. I joined the Wolfpack league and there are a multitude of enhancements that out there to improve the game and game play. I find it quite a "sweating" experince. Nothing like being "pinged" by a DD or DE that is really out to get you.

There are also a multitude of add on single player missions, and multiplayer missions out there, and they keep the action level up. I also have modded the rain and storm problem with another add on all long with improved scenery. I am having a blast with the game. I bought it at the same time I got Destroyer Command, and I enjoy them both.

Incredible replacement for Command: Aces of the Deep

Being a fan of the Sierra game "Command: Aces of the Deep", I have been patiently waiting for this game to be released for the past two years. I can tell you that the wait has been (mostly) worth it!

While this game isn't a true "replacement" for C:AoD, this game does fill in its shoes better than I had hoped. The sea animation is better, the realism is better, and the fun value is better. While there are a few minor things I would have changed/added, for the most part I find this a great WWII sub sim.

As for bugs, there were only a few minor issues I've found while running it under Win2k. The first problem (which might just be hardware related) was that I had to copy the entire contents of the CD to the HD and install from that copied data (I later deleted those files). Secondly, a bug occurs when I'm in the damage control room, and with a certain key combination the game displays a blank screen and causes the game to crash. Also, I've noticed that when I crash dive, sometimes I decend to 50m in only a few seconds. Other than these 3, though, I've found it to be more stable than C:AoD.

Overall, this sim is great and really gives you an appreciation for what WWII submariners went through (both the allies and axis powers). While some may say the graphics aren't that great, frankly I don't understand what they're talking about. Seeing how much time is spent underwater, overly complex graphics would just be a detriment to the game.

Silent Hunter 2 Limps into Port

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 6 / 9

Silent Hunter 2 is nice upgrade from Silent Hunter 1 but falls short in 2 major catagories.
Graphics: Very nice artwork that is ruined by the 800x600 resolution limit. Main menu screens that look like they were drawn by a 2 year old with crayons. Not very "Real" looking.
Multiplayer: NONE! Thats right folks. This title shipped with no multplayer support. This game was suposed to be built for multiplayer.
A very good AI and easy to use interface is the only thing that saves this game from being a total disaster.

This for one is not a bad game.As the other gamer said it takes 20+ seconds to rotate the periscope. Well it only take 3-6 seconds. The games is fun in just about every way from stalking and waiting to pounce on a ship to battle damage and haveing you crew re-pairng it.Now some of the out side graphics arent top notch but they work for the game.

Wacthing a ships sink then diving near the reck to shooting down aircraft tocrash diving. All the gauges are also good. From depth, speed to batterie levels, sonar and torpedoe statues.
If you injoy sea or submarine combate you'll enjoy this game !!

Silent Hunter 2 Is AWESOME!!!!!!

I've been playing SH2 For a few months and I have to say It is really great. You can fight a custom mission and choose your submarine map and encounter (sub, convoy,or warship). You can also fight any one of the missions at any time or you can do a campaighn filled with challenging missions. You can choose from an array of submarines including The type 21, (my perssonal favorite)The true silent hunter. The controlls are easy to use (I would Know I'm Only 12) and gameplay is simple. Enjoy this pimped game

Software Testing, What a concept

What a roach motel of bugs. Shame on SSI for releasing a poorly tested game to try in and capitalize on the Christmas rush. Wait six more months and one of two things will happen. They will either fix this software or a competitor will release a better one, so we can throw this disc in the trash where it rightly belongs. Save your money

ON XP WINDOWS:IT RUNS FINE FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I dont understand why so many reviewers are saying that they were having problems running the game on xp...........it runs fine for me......the game was ok,I thought the graphics could have been better and I don't like the idea that if you fail the mission you have to start it over(no realism in that)I would wait for the price to drop before buying it!...........

To Play or Not to Play

I read with amusement the comments about playing a U-Boat Captain. I was three when WWII started and grew up hating Hitler, U-Boats and Japanese. I also spent 2.5 years in Vietnam.

To its detractors I say get real. It is only a game. Play it and enjoy it and if you are serious about not being a German then get killed every time or buy Destroyer Command and pitt your skils against the U-Boats.

If its anything like the first one.

If its anything like the first one this game ought to be great! I used to play the first one for hours. Just sitting there lerking out in the deep water for a fleet to come by. I'm hoping they fixed a few bugs and gave it a great enhancement. This game should be good. Lets just hope that its worth the wait....

Disappointing...but worth the money.

I wanted a WW2 U-boat simulation game ever since the old commodore 64 version of SILENT SERVICE came out. This game is a perfect version of that simulation/product...However I must agree that I'm sad because not enough time and money went into the production values. The main menus DO LOOK like something a child would draw and might have come from an old commodore 64...But still it is worth having as I see no other WW2 U-boat sim out there.
