Battle for Middle Earth 2

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 3

This game had an amazing concept, or at least I thought it did. However it failed to deliver a truly inspiring vision of the Lord of the Rings universe. As an RTS the game was sub par. Resource management and unit archetypes were generally cookie cutter models, neither horrible nor exceptional. As a representation of the Lord of the Rings universe the game was extremely flawed. Its storied campaigns focused on unimportant characters who in most cases did not do in the books what the game said they did and in general were not vibrant enough to keep my attention. The War of the Ring mode was slightly better but seemed like a cheap knockoff of the conquer the world mode in Rise of Nations or the campaign mode in Dawn of War 40k: Dark Crusade. In general the game was not horrible but it most definitely was not amazing either. I give the Battle for Middle Earth 2 a '3 out of 5'.

Great game!

This game is really fun!Once you get on it you cannot get of.It is full of adventures and you get to be good and evil!I rate this game 5 stares because I now know how wars used to be in Middle Earth.

Be warned!! May not work by design.

Although the first game was pretty damn good, be careful buying this one. Apparently for some reason EA has intentionally made this game incompatible with some NVIDIA Geoforce graphics cards even if they meet the memory requirements. Not sure why they did this and don't care either. There was no information about this in the description on Amazon and nothing on the box that I received either. Double check the web to see if it will work with your card.

Will Not Even Run! Does Run Occasionally But Super Slow!

I spent about 6 hours on my own trying to get this to run, and it made me update my video drivers (my computer is VERY high performance) and once this was all done my computer crashed and was left in such a poor state that I had to have a professional computer repair technician spend two hours to salvage the situation. I am currently back to where I was before, able to use my computer and do everything I did before, and the game actually runs, but it runs so slow and sluggish that it is beyond pathetic. The technician said that my computer is fine and that nothing is wrong with the drivers or anything of that sort. In short, he concluded that the game is worthless and that I should seek a refund from the manufacturer. It will run occasionally, but when I click to give an order to a unit it freezes for 30-50 seconds, unfreezes, the order begins to be executed, then it freezes again, then it unfreezes, then it crashes... I don't know why I paid 38 dollars for that...

pretty good game really

the bad. the races are so unmatched!the dwarfs have these catupults that kill all, the goblins can climb over walls(elimanating the point of having them)and the ura kai kill anything in there path (with the exception of horseman) and if the battle is even (1 v 1) the one with the better race wins with the exceptions of castles.now it is pretty fair in the natoriusly short campaine.but in skirmish mode its only fair if its plains and your the same race, or if the weak race starts in a castle.the good.the game is very realistic such as if horse man go up against pikeman head on there doomed but if they go to the side before the pikeman can turn, the pikeman are as good as gone
.also the horsman can run over footman and footman can kill other footman. (footman in this case means archers and swordsman)
in conclusion it is fun though there is the race differance

good game, but not as good as the first.

I got this game back in march for 50$. i imediotly downloaded it and started a skirmish level at easy. I eventualy noticed that easy didn't mean the same thing in this game. I was attacked almost as soon as it started. Aparently they put this handicap system in the give you more control over difficulty level. This may sond good but unless the enemy is handicaped under 70% they completly destroy you quickly. The new factions are interesting but are not all that differant from the other. I also find it frusterating that the only rohan units in this game as the heros and the hoarsemen. There is no rohan arcitexture eather. THe campain is also much shorter and less interesting. However fotress building is fun. The powers you can get have been added to and are much cooler. There are also many new heros from the new and old factions. There is also a cool create a hero feature that will keep you ocupied for a wile. Although the factions are very similar the new and old ones are more interesting to play. Over all this game is pretty good. But get the first one first.

A good Game

I just bought the collector's edition of the game. I would give it a 4 star overall exept for the fact that it runs a little slow on my computer. In order to play it without lag you need a really good graphics card. But worth buying even at $30-$40. Have fun.

Fun to play!

LOTR's Battle for middle Earth II is fun!
And you can build virtualy any castle and any number of armies that you want!

There is very little restrants on expanding your castle or expanding your army.

I beta tested this game and when I play the beta I had made army's of at least 1000!

Not to many games let you build armys of that magnitude but BFME II doe's!
All around good game! :)

cool

my son really likes this game because he can set it up and then battle, which means he has to think a bit more while playing so mom likes it to.

Great Fun

This game is one of the better RTS games I've played. It's addictive and has virtually no learning curve.

If you liked the LOTR movies and/or books, and if you like RTS games, you'll probably be as hooked on this one as I was.
