Very good, but with some flaws.

I am a big Lord of the Rings fan, and also a big RTS fan, so I was thrilled when I found out that there would be a LotR RTS game. I played the first Battle for Middle Earth, and the only thing I didn't really like was the fact that you can only build buildings on certain build plots. When I heard that there was going to be a second BfME game, and that players could build anywhere to design their own castle, I was once again very excited. I promptly bought BfME2 as soon as possible, and while it is an incredible game, it does have some drawbacks. I am the type of player who does not like running out of resources, so the fact that the resource buildings produce less if they are too close to each other is a pretty big complaint I have about the game. I also do not like that walls can only be built within a certain distance of your fortress. I like to contain my opponent and protect my outlying resource buildings, but I find myself limited by the building restrictions that were not supposed to be present, even on small, two player maps. I enjoy everything else about this game, and it is really good for any LotR or RTS fans, but these negative features I mentioned earned this title a 4 star rating.

good game but...

bfme2 is a great game, however, some unrealistic parts of the game almost ruined it for me. such as : when have you ever seen 30 - 40 guys take down a castle made of stone in 30 seconds(with only swords and arrows) ? or 3 heroes take out an entire enemy base(again, with those weapons) ? so for some fun i got the S.E.E. mod. now you have to build siege if you don't want to lose your entire army. you can find it by searching for 'bfme2 special extended edition' on the internet. enjoy!

Fun game

I was pleasantly surprised with this game, I think I paid 10 bucks for it and I've gotten a ton of play time out of it, it's really been fun especially for the price. It's a bit more simplistic than some RTS games I've played but still fun and I always enjoy "The War of the Ring" game type. Campaign isn't super long but the replay value comes in playing the skirmishes and other game modes. I wouldn't pay $50 for this but for less than $15 you can't go wrong here and I 100% recommend this title. Music is really good too. 5 stars for fun factor and 4 stars overall (for re-playability and complexity)

Perfection undone

This is a perfect example of DON'T-FIX-WHAT-IS'NT-BROKEN. The original game was perfection and loaded with new ideas and functions. This game takes away all the strategy and makes it into another mainstream rts. The only goal now is to pump out units as fast as you can in order to flatten the enemy instead of having that extra level of capturing building plots. The game is fun for the first 9 or 10 hours, but after that it loses it's appeal. I admit that the hero creator is cool(hence the overall 2 stars), but nothing can heal the disappointment of seeing one of your favorite games massacred in front of your eyes. This game is now worth as much to me as a paperweight and sits on my shelf collecting dust.

Despite the fact that the requirements for this game are met by my computer the game will not run. Instead the game boots up and as soon as you attempt to move a character the computer is automatically rebooted. Researching this issue, I found that either the graphics driver had to be updated(which I did) or the monitor resolution must be lowered(which I tried). Neither solution helped, I have not been able to play the game. I assume this will work with a more updated computer so I will wait until I build my next one before knowing whether or not this is a worthwhile game.

alright well for anyone who played the first game and liked it you will LOVE the second one. everything i didn't like about the first game they fixed, and everything i did like they made it even better. no more set base building, it's all free range building. there are a whole bunch of new powers, 3 new races, and you can create custom heroes! i highly recommend this game! 5/5

I bought this game at the request of my 15 year old son with the "LOTR: Rise of the Witch King" expansion pack. He and both of his brothers are still playing it regularly and none of them has thrown anything at the computer screen, so I guess it is a pretty good game. :)

I love the game its very funny specially playing online.
You can make friends joins diferent clans etc.
The campaings are a bit short but goods. and you have the option to play War of the ring mode , that its like a board game where you have to conquer diferent territories.
The best part of the game is the 6 diferent factions you can chose each one totally diferent from the others but with a good balance, having diferent units and buildings.
try it you will like the game

Quality game but not all that fun

Firstly, regular version of this game comes on 6 CDs. How ridiculous that a software publisher would subject their customers to such a thing as having to install a game over 6 CDs. But I guess its the only way they can offer the DVD collectors edition for more money.

Im having a hard time putting into words my review of this game but I'll do my best. The quality is there. Theres no question about that. But to me, it was absolutely no fun to play. I really pushed myself to give the game a good chance to win me over. Because I've read some reviews that give this game very high marks. But after a couple of hours of playing it I just decided it was not worth my time. And I think it all comes down to the fact that I have been spoiled by the best RTS ever made and that is Warcraft III and the expansion Frozen Throne. I live to play Warcraft III. Thats how fun it is. It has character. The units have character which make them fun to play. And the graphics of Warcraft III are so colorful and bright. The problem, only in my opinion of course, with BFME2 is that is takes a completely different approach from Warcraft III. It has a more serious nature to it. Let me just say in closinig that if you are a Warcraft III:Frozen Throne fan this game will probably disappoint you. Its a completely different beast. As much as I wanted to like this game, it just wasnt fun to me.
