One of the all-time greatest games

When I bought my PS3 last month, after some careful researching, Ninja Gaiden Sigma was the game I purchased with the system. I've never played Ninja Gaiden for the X-box but had fond memories of old school Ninja Gaiden. I most definitely was not disappointed by sigma.

Right from the start, this game is graphically incredible. The scenery, the game physics, the fluid controls are jaw dropping all at 60FPS. My TV supports 720p and 1080i. At 1080i this game is incredible, so I can only imagine what it must look like at 1080p

Ryu's arsenal of weaponry in this game is pretty expansive. You start with the dragon sword which is a lot of fun until you come across the duel swords and then you can really slash your way through anything, until you find the lunar, which was by far my favorite weapon. Its a long bow/spear that when fully upgraded allows you to pull off some absolutely sick combos as you spin/slash your way through hordes of enemies. The projectiles are great too. I had a lot of fun with the incinidary shruikens, but the windmill shruiken was probably the most useful.

Unique to this version of the game is the ability to play as Rachael, the fiend hunter. I won't lie, her missions just aren't as fun as Ryu's, she doesn't have the ability to run up walls or run across water. [its almost unfair how many abilities Ryu has in this game] but thankfully, her missions aren't very long and sometimes they serve as a nice breather.

This game is NOT easy. It does demand that you be a solid gamer with a decent amount of patience. You will die, a lot. Especially later in the game, but its that much more rewarding when you defeat that room of 50 ninjas or demons, or that annoyingly difficult boss.

If the game has one flaw, its that occasionally in small areas the camera angles can get annoying but its honestly not that big of a deal and I was able to work my way through it.

Team Ninja has done a stunningly excellent job putting together what will surely be one of the PS3's best games even years from now. I highly recommend getting this ASAP if you own a PS3.

Extremely challenging

This is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are fantastic and the sound is great. The game is extremely challenging, I was stock in the very first chapter and ready to give up after dying again and again, however I managed to continue and started to get more comfortable with the striking and defensive techniques. Is true that some levels are very frustrating and you start to loose your faith in your abilities, but don't give up start fresh again and you will overcome your enemies.
I have my PS3 connected via a HDMI cable to my 46" Sony 1080P LCD and the sound connected to my 7.1 channels Home theatre with an Optic Fiber Cable. This game atmosphere is so intense that I get my heart pumping like in a real fight.

Now I wanna be a Ninja!

Allow me to admit that I'm a 42 year old teacher and dad, and I probably should leave the gaming to my 4 children. That said, this game is a "must own" folks! The graphics and action flow smoothly, the scenery is beautifully rendered, and it's just a ton of fun! There is a lot of "animated blood" (hey, your using throwing stars and swords, right?), which is the main reason it has an "M" rating, but don't automatically rule it out for your own level-headed teenager. We also bought the companion guidebook which clued us in on tons of "secret moves" not given in the game's manual, while also giving us hints for completing any level that we got stuck on. Bottom line, we own a dozen or so PS3 games and Ninja Gaiden Sigma is in our top 3 favorites with a "Dad Fun Score" of 9.5 out of 10!

Are You Up to the Challenge?

I rarely write reviews. In fact, I only write reviews if I REALLY enjoy a product or REALLY hate a product. Safe tot say, this game falls on the REALLY enjoyed it category.

Let me start off by saying this is the most difficult game I can remember...and i'm talking about playing it at NORMAL difficutly setting, the hardest level available first time through. This game isn't button mashing kill fest (eg. dynasty warriors). This game requires an unbelievable amount of coordination and intelligence. The action is fast, the story is enjoyable, and the bosses are diverse.

At its base, this game follows a classic model. Learn the patterns of the boss, and attack when he is vulnerable. and get the heck out of the way and he is about to lay down the smack. But you have at your disposal and arsenal of magic, multiple weapons, and an amazing number of attacks. You can go with heavy and slow, or fast and light weapons.

Graphics are gorgeous, the sound is brilliant, and the sound is responsive.

GET THIS GAME!!! but ONLY if you are upto the challenge.

The most challenging-yet-rewarding game for the PS3

Too often, when games are associated with being difficult, the satisfaction of finally beating the levels tends to be low because the difficulty was simply cheap and ridiculous. Not with Ninja Gaiden Sigma. While many enemies are difficult to dispatch, with enough practice and knowledge of the combat system, the enemies do eventually go down and there's no game out there for the PS3 with a greater degree of satisfaction when a boss is defeated. That's because the combat system is fantastic. It's deep but not overly complicated, yet requires fast reflexes and proper timing.

This game has actually made me better at videogames. After beating the game's normal mode, I've noticed, particularly with fighting games, my reflexes and general feel for button commands has improved. For those with the patience to stick with the initial degree of difficulty, NGS has a lot of fun in store.

Wow!! This Game is the Boss!!

The graphics are so tight you will be playing this game in your dreams! Definitely not an easy game; you will have put in some serious time, but worth every minute. If you are looking for a challenge, smart story line, cool weapons, tight martial arts moves and some kick-butt graphics you want to get this game.

I am very pleased.

A Must Own

Well let me start off by saying that this game is pretty difficult. This isnt your normal hack and slash and you need to spend a lot of time studying your enemies attacks and learning when to strike and with what attack. With that said, this is one of the most rewarding games you could ever play. Once your comfortable with the controls and how to go about attacking and such the action in the gameplay is unrivaled. The story falls short, but it is much more cohesive than the xbox version was, provided I only played the first one and not NG:Black. The graphics are stunning and smooth, and this surely stands as the most superior version of an oft overlooked classic.

Hack and Slash!

I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel with this review .. so I'll just say the game has been a blast to play. I never had an original Xbox so I didn't play the earlier version. Having nothing to compare it to I have to say the game is tons of fun. I'm not going to get into whether it's "deep" or not .. it does what it does and doesn't try to do anything else. It's a hack and slash game and it's unapologetic .. which is a good thing.

BEST PLAYSTATION 3 GAME AS OF DATE!!!

The graphics are amazing mostly under 1080p. It's a challenging game to play but that's what makes it sooooooooooo fun. They really did a great job with this game. It's so fun, I am going to return my friend's playstation O.o and buy myself one :) On a side note, I cant wait until Tekken 6 comes out. Back to Ninja Gaiden, I'm speechless, it's AWESOME!!! Playstation is making a comeback thanks to it. I know why they called it Sigma now, it's better than the summation of all the games on PS3. ^_^
