The most engaging, and varied combat I've ever seen in an action game. With an amazingly simple array of controls you can do quite a lot. This game is not just barging in and killing everyone (or John wayneing it)it has alot of stelth and infiltration, while not being just a sniper. In the game you can't pick up more than one weapon at a time making you think. Also the saveing method of not letting you save every second made the game more of a challenge.
The story line is fairly simple but then becomes quite twisted towards the end, then at the end it still left you wondering.
I've also noticed it doesn't matter that there is no multyplayer, as some other reviewers thought to be a problem. Who actually plays multyplayer anyway?
Oni rocks...

One of the best games of this type I played in the last years. If you're into Anime this is a PC game you should have played. There's not much searching or puzzling to do (you get a compass of where you should go to) and the game is linear, it's a more "brains-to-zero-lets-kick-[them]" game with a great combat system.
Granted the backgrounds are not as detailed as could be but the game is very atmospheric and playable.
On the downside, there's no multiplayer. There will be no ONI II or derivatives as the company stopped producing games.

i LOVE this game. It has got to be one of my favorite games i have ever played. The PC or MAC versions are much better than the PS2's. If you want to play this game, a two button mouse is a MUST HAVE. This game has superb graphics, amazing gameplay, and it is very immersive. The only thing wrong is the bad graphics in the cut scenes. They are just the ingame character models. I highly enjoyed this game. I played the demo and was hooked in 15 minutes. I highly reccomend this game to any person who likes fighters. Imaging Street Fighter or Tekken, just put into a third person game. That is what this is.
Very Nice

Most of the third person action games I've played have been one or the other: hand-to-hand or guns. Oni is very much different in that you do both (granted, guns are pretty weak, but more on that later). I was pretty impressed by how deep the fighting is. You could of course just bang away at the attack buttons and eventually wear down your enemies, but that would take forever, and it wouldn't look very impressive (Coolest move ever: Running Lariat--Ring their neck as you dash on by) One thing I've noticed is that the guns (except for the Superball Gun, and Mercury Bow) are pretty much useless. Against an advancing group, I suppose one could come in handy to pick off a couple of enemies, but one on one, they don't work too well. You're better off just throwing down and start punching.
Over all, I like this game a hell of a lot, and play it repeatedly just for kicks (Bad pun). Also, the anime theme of this game carries over into an actual anime (granted, it's hard to find, but it's out there.)
the Action packed game you want!!!

When I first played this game was at a friends house and I was really impressed by the graphics and the game itself. In the beginning you get to train, this is really usefull because if you don't train you will never know some really important info. This game reminded me a lot of TOMB RAIDER because of the girl, but after playing for half an hour there weren't any similarities left between TOMB RAIDER and ONI. The girl in ONI fights the bad guys with martal art while in TOMB RAIDER it is all about guns.
In ONI you are most of the time in buildings killing the bad guys. But the game is not about killing the bad guys the whole time. It is about finding out about your past. And to get there Konoko (the ONI girl) has to fight all the different kind of bad guys (in blue, red, brown, armored, suicide bombers that kind of bad guys) change outfits (from police uniform to regular jeans)open some doors, hijack some cars, rescue some civilians, learns new moves (backbreaker very powerful but very hard to perform, Devil Spin Kick and my favorite the "Neck Breaker")and kill some even bigger bad guys (Barbadus,"Ninja"). And in the end you get to know who you really are and who you really can trust.
And all that combined with a lot of good graphics. But that is not very surprising if you knew who the people were who made this game. They are the people who are right now making the most promising and original game of many years... HALO!!!
for more info go to the ONI website or the Bungie website. any comments, questions, suggestions e-mail me.

Oni was an incredible mix of high technology and anime. If you like anime then this game is a must have. Even if you finish it and never play it again you'll be glad you bought it. However, multiplay mode was discarded due to the fact that the creators gave up trying to fine tune the netcode. So don't get this game thinking it has multiplay. Oni however doesn't suffer in its story and gameplay though. It is rather a difficult game as you can only carry 1 weapon with you at a time so you quickly find yourself favoring the Plasma Rifle or Mercury Bow as the game is filled with more energy ammo cartridges then that of regular solid ammo cartridges. I'd be pleased if GoD created the sequel to Oni, in which they have an overwelming percentage of fans trying to pursuade them to do so. The music is great, and having bought the game you will not be sorry once you reach the very cool dream level. ^_^
I would give the game 4 and 1/2 stars, but I guess it loses 1 star due that I severely miss the feature of multiplay, as the game is very Goldeneye and Perfect Dark esque in feature.
If a fan of FPS and Anime... again this game is a collectors piece for the computer game fan. Anyway, the hand to hand combat is okay, but its much more satisfying when you have a weapon to use. When in doubt.. spray spray spray.

Oni, is one of the best games ever made. It combines revolutionary hand-to-hand combat and 3rd person shooting. Oni has is just challenging enough that it makes you work for the next stage in the game. But not so challenging that you will never beat it. I would recommend this game to anyone. It has a great arsenal of weapons, but my favorite is the martial arts combat. This game is absolutely fantastic. No question, BUY IT!!!
This one surprised me

I have just finished playing NOLF, and this was a wild change. Getting in up and close is way cool. When you go back to the other games you feel like you are hamstrung. Its takes a bot of learning, but soon, which surprised me, I was doing some amazing moves with ease. Some complain about the utalitarian terrain, but for such a fast game I think it is a necessity. Now...this game is the first game in 20 years of gaming that a resorted to cheating. The cheat Elderscroll allows you to regenerate slowly. I thought this was acceptable to counter the inability to save. Five thumbs up. And a backflip. And a round the house kick...go for it.
Oni is a decent game

I absolutely love Oni in the respect that it is a great action game and that it is in 3d with an great storyline. The downsides are very important such as the fact that you cannot save the game!! It has an auto save, but when your close to beating the level you dont want to start way back and do the whole thing over again!! The last and least thing is the fact that you cannot configure your buttons. The game puts all the buttons within your reach but some people like using the up, down, right ,left arrows instead of wasd.

This game is great, the main character can do lots of cool moves, it's storyline is pretty good, and it has good graphics (assuming you have a good video card and computer). Some magazines that reviewed this game for PS2 said it wasn't at all good because there were too many moves and it couldn't fit onto a controller. But the computer version is worth it, since you can use a keyboard, it is much easier to do the moves. But if you don't have a fast computer and/or a good graphics card, some parts can get laggy. This game was definetly worth it for me!
