I have played this game alot and i must say that it has something you very rarely see anymore, originality. I have never played a game like it, and while its not perfectly done, its done well enough that i once played for over 4 hours without looking at the clock. The game is dificult, but that is also part of what i enjoy, its hard enough that you almost never beat a level your first time through, but not so hard that i ever was discouraged (also, there is a way to turn the dificulty up and down, it makes a noticeable difference!) The fighting in the game is increadible, your able to preform Tekken like attacks and combos to multiple enemies while at the same time takeing them down with any of the bizzare (but very cool) weapons that you find. I agree that the saveing system is a little annoying sometimes, but i feel it doesnt impinge on the game enough to make me dislike it. If you like anime, action games, high end martial arts, and great graphics, this game is for you.
good enough for me

Well, the graphics are decent, and the gameplay is great. Since when I play a game the thing I notice the most is the gameplay, I really enjoy this game, lot's of moves, combos and stuff which are fairly easy to pull of. The gun's are cool, although you will probably find fighting hand to hand much more fun. My problem, as most have said, is the press switch, open door routine. I don't have much of a problem with the save scheme, since I find that I enjoy a game the most when I run through, risking it all and not saving before every door I'm going through.
I don't know what people talk about when they say it is hard to use the the weapons. I find it pretty simple. Move the mouse over the bad guy, press the left mouse buton, and.... that's it.
Well, those were my two cents.
Awsome....asuming you can edit files

This is a great game no matter what. The graphics are great and the moves and levels are some of the best i have ever seen. The keys ARE a problem but can be altered. In the program file there is a text document titled "Key Config" so there you go. Enjoy a fun thrilling ride in this great Action/Adventure game.

Hyped beyond the stars, Oni left many reviewers cold upon release. But this Anime-style 3rd-person fighter should not be passed up for a number of strong reasons.
One of the many criticisms centers around the bland level design and the less than stellar graphics. However, the core of the game, namely the fighting system - is wonderful in its three-dimensional complexity and its aesthetic results.
Konoko, the cartoon version of Run Lola Run's female lead, can not only fight like Neo, but she has the same liking for guns, which she can borrow from her opponents. The enemies themselves are well-realized, though a bit repetitive, though this is fairly common.
In a way, this is a great opportunity to play an infinitely cooler version of Tomb Raider. Only now, the character's moves an other aspects of the game are somewhat better crafted.
Arguably, Anime-inspired games have an edge over their classically-themed competitors due the inherent appeal of violent cartoons. Oni is no different, and it's a wonder it didn't end up somewhat more highly regarded. Though cut-scenes aren't particularly well made, at least the voice talent is indeed talented.
As long as the criticisms are addressed, then Oni's sequel (if anyone takes up the franchise) could become a hit.
Nothing but Hype

Do not waste your money. Like many before, I agree the game had some amazing fighting and great Character Animation. But other than that the game play is absolutely TERRIBLE. The worst thing about this game is the environment. Other than running around in a box with some Half Life style crates the environments were completely empty, and boring. BADDDDDDD ART DIRECTION!
Great fighting sequences but lacking overall.

This game is really cool when there are enemies to fight, dynamics are amazing, but most of the time is spent running around opening doors, pulling switchs or activating computers. The plot is very confused as to what your missions are and there is not any variety in the game. Graphics are blocky and all the misssions look the same as do most of the characters in the game, the save game makes you repeat a lot of gameplay and there is no way to remap the keys.Control of your character would be much improved if you could remap the keys, default keys are to far apart and untuitive for fast paced action. On the plus side sound is okay and there are quite a few fighting moves which have been obviously been copied from the Matrix. Final word buy this game for the fights but you will get bored after about 1 hr of play.

Oni is an extremely fun anime style action/adventure game featuring great music, colorful graphics, amusing dialog/sound effects, and the ability to fight martial arts style or with futuristic weapons. Stealth and agility are useful in this game, as well as good aim and strategy. Highly recommended!
Even a non-gamer likes it!

I really enjoy this game. When I first got the demo (with either Final Fantasy 7 or Omikron, the only 2 other games I have ever played) I fell in love with it.
The game is fairly easy to learn. The training level got me (A beginner gamer) doing all the moves. The levels get harder as the game progresses, and what you learn is actually needed.
The fighting is the best feature of the game. In Revenent, I just keep clicking mindlessly. Same with a few other games I have tried. You actually have to think out your moves and your shooting.
Perhaps this game is like every other game, but I really like it. The character and (what I know of) the plot attracted me, and the fighting definately kept my interest.

... The Gameplay is great. Most people say that the best part is the many weapons you can fire at your enemies at point blank range. I love the combat. You can use punches, kicks, throws, and combos. for the 1st level they even give you a combo. It is so satisfying when you kill your first syndacite lackey. The most satisfying thing to do is punch him twice, kick him once, lightly throw him down the stairs, and break his neck with a sommersault jump while he is lieing in the floor. Definently worth the money.

This anime action game is quite fun. I never played these types of games before, but I like this one. You are Konoko, a female combat expert. You need to know how to use guns as well as martial art skills. You are put into dangerous situations and must complete all of your mission objectives to move on. Along the way you will find out more about your mysterious past.
From a Christian perspective, I am impressed. The main character being a female is decently dressed. The is no foul language, you can taunt your enemies if you like, it's all clean! There is violence (guns and marital arts) but technically there is no blood. One interesting note, the word Oni has many meanings in the Japanese language. Some of the meanings include Ghost, Ogre, or Demon. In the game it is hinted that the main character Konoko is not completely human. I do not know what she is (I don't want to spoil the story). All that you do know is that she has an unknown past, unknown future and is living in a dark time.
The game is easy to install. The upbeat music adds to the game. There is no multiplayer in this game. One thing I found odd is saving. You can't save whenever you want, there are save points that save for you. As for controls the default is using the WASD keys. The only way to change that is to modify the key_config.txt file. This game got me converted to using the WASD configuration.
