Pretty Darn Good

This Game is very fun, and provides a lot of gameplay. There are three types of classes you can play as: the Warrior, the Conjuror, and the Wizard, each having unique stats to suit their class. for example, the wizard is EXTREMELY weak, but is excellent in the use of magic. The warrior does no magic, only skills, but is very strong. The conjuror can summon beasts to aid you during battle, and can do simple magic such as cure, stun, and meteor.

The overall difficulty is not that hard, as you will only need to replay a few things rarely (besides the last boss of course). The Wizards and Warriors hate each other, i might add. Each class has a different storyline view, as if you play as the warrior, you must overrun the wizards' tower in order to gain the heart of nox, a part of a powerful staff you are trying to assemble in order to defeat hecubah, the main enemy in the game. If you play as a wizard, however, you must defend the wizards' tower from hecubahs ogre army, and later on sneak into the warrior's main dwelling using a stealth spell. The conjuror is the friend of both wizard AND warrior, so not much of a challenge when you are getting some of the staff parts

regardless of what other people say, i think the multiplayer totally sucks in this game. There is no point or much fun in doing this. whichever character you choose, your character is at a really high level, and knows every spell and skill available, so this does not give much of a challenge at all, and becomes VERY irritating and frustrating

The story is pretty interesting, you are sucked into a new world from your....living room??? yes your living room, and it turnes out you do not know how to come back, but you know you are unsafe where you are, so you team up with good and chase after hecubah, the used-to-be last remaining necromancer who is plotting against ruling all "nox" which is the land in which you battle in.

the only problem i have is that there are not enough enemies a lot of times....in a dungeon a lot of the time you are running and running, then run into a few enemies...maybe 5 or 6...then you run more...and it goes on like this

overall, the game is not much of a challenge, but it is quite fun for quite a while, and I recommend you buy this game. If you enjoyed Diablo, then this is a game for you

It's A shame it wasn't a big seller

I got this game out of a stores bargin bin and was amazed by it.

It does not require any 3D acceleration, all effects are done through MMX programming I believe its called and it looks great.

The game story is funny involving and at points pretty darn scary.

You get to play three different characters Wizard, Conjurer or straight ahead Fighter. For me the conjurer is the most fun and the ability to turn enemy monsters into henchmen fighting on your side is terrific.

If you decide to get it try to find the Strategy Guide - its loaded with 500 pages of tips, insights and has complete walkthroughs for all three characters.

And lastly this "little" game has the best user interface I have ever seen in any game period.

What a deal and a great game.

An Excellent Game

This game was excellent and fun to play. The game from Westwood has you choose from being a wizard, conjurer, or warrior, and fight off Hecubvah and her evil necromancers.
The game has good graphics and it keeps you busy playing it. You can play the solo and defeat Hecubah or you can go online and play with other people.

Nox Rules!

Nox is the most action-packed game I have encountered in my life! It has tons of awesome spells, weapons and armor. There are tons of cool monsters to fight including skeletons and orcs. I totally loved this game and if you don't have it, you should! And parents, you shouldn't worry about the content of the game, it doesn't have inapropriate characters or gruesome, bloody graphics like so many other games. I speak truthfully when I say that this game is totally appropriate for children.

An Excellent RPG!

Nox has generated obvious comparisons to Diablo, but it is great in it's own unique way. The background animation is fantastic, and the on-line Player v. Player mode is a lot of fun. (allowing each player to "talk" to the other and "whisper" things to team-mates allows for great possibilites). I liked the First-person view of the character, and not being able to see things outside of his line of view proves realistic. While the Warrior's powers could have been modified somewhat, he and the Conjurer are the best to play. True, there are only three clasess, unlike Diablo II, which will have something like 5, but each character is interesting enough. Some of the dungeon levels get repetitive after awhile, but the villages and forests are great fun.

"Better Wait...."

I bought Nox since it looked decent, but was not happy with the game. The reasons are that it brings almost nothing new to RPGs, and does not have enough innovation to keep me playing. Sure it has dynamic lighting, but the pixels are as big as a ultralisks aft orifice. After playing the game for two months I could not understand why some many magazines gave such a average game tons of "above average" reviews. Totally linear gameplay combined with a pathetic disney sense of humour make this game a 'bring me back'. Considering the amount of time Westwood took to get Nox to the markets many people who bought the game will soon clear some surplus space of their hard drives since you will not get obsessed with it. Tough Luck Westwood...

If you still aren;t sure whether or not to click that "add to cart" button, let this review change your mind. I am actually only about halfway through the game, and already it is awesome.

By now Nox is considered a pretty old game I'm sure, and it's long been discontinued by Westwood. Sadly, it will probably never see a sequel, as this game is much deserving. It was years ago that I played it, I couldn't stop talking about it at the time, and while it's not the most original game around, I haven't since found a CRPG to match it for shear playability and fun. Let this review be an ode to the late nights I spent immersed in its gameworld.

The three playable character types: Warrior, Wizard, and Conjurer, are suitably unique and for each the game plays out differently, with different environments and quests, all eventually leading up to the same objective (why, destroying the evil sorceress, of course). Also, the fighting strategies you employ will differ quite a bit for each character. This offers some replay value as you'll want to replay the game as different characters to experience everything.

The environments and monsters are aplenty and diverse enough to keep things fresh. There's a great accompanying music soundtrack that helps create a nice mood moving from place to place.

Nox shines in an area that, far too often, mars my ability to enjoy many otherwise compelling RPGs: its fighting system. Combat in Nox is fast, furious, and immersive; helped by its intuitive gameplay controls. Movement works by holding down the right mouse button and moving the cursor in the direction you want to move--closer to the character to walk and father ahead to run--and the left button swings your weapon; this in addition to a combination of hotkeys on the keybord for accessing your spell attacks, monster summons, or special abilities. Unlike in the similarly styled Diablo (I/II) (which this game undoubtedly takes a lot of inspiration from) where you'll often stand in one place and watch your character hack away without visible effect, Nox is very involved; you've got to keep moving as taking hits can really hurt, you're even able to use your sheild (if you can wield one) to block attacks from your front. It's basically an action game with mouse control. A nicely designed system that was excecuted very well here and one I would like to see more PC games implement.

My biggest dissapointment with Nox is its lack of cooperative multiplayer. Its multiplayer component is a 2-38 player deathmatch, which I had a lot of fun with, but it would be nicer to adventure together with friends. The developers later released a cooperative multiplayer add-on for free on their website but I never played it so I don't know how it matched up to the single player experience.

Before playing Nox, I was more of a multiplayer exclusive guy and wouldn't usually find myself sitting down to traverse the lonely world of single player games. Nox really surprised me; it's just plain fun and addictive. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to casual players and people who don't normally like RPGs, because of its fast-paced, action-oriented gameplay and short learning curve.

Great fun!

Years ago, when this first came out I was hooked. Forming a online clan, we called our selves "sithlords". We were fully committed to having fun. Whats great about this game was the balance across the classes. I loved it. The story of the game was amazing as well. Now I have no idea if the servers are still up for online fun but it was truely nice at one point in time.

Great pick.
