All About dogfights

First, to give you my perspective - mid 30s male who plays games about 10 hours a week.
Second - this game is all about a great engine for having dogfights in 3D space. Initially, it is very impressive and you feel like the Red Baron. But after a while it becomes a bit dull. They Keyboard flight and battles are not very difficult, but the endless rounds of air fights get tedious.
Now, if you are a big flight simulator fan, then you might really enjoy this game. But if you want something different - some puzzles, some other form of fighting, something else, this game will leave you feeling empty.

Just be aware when buying this game, that the flight control system forces you to use the mouse. There is no support in the game for using a joystick in the flight/combat portions.

Freelancer is sometime in the future. A great war has ripped Humanity into two factions. One Faction about to loose all gambles on a sleeper ship convoy of ships to the Sirius Sector...the gamble works...yet there is more here than open space and although the systems are populated and thriving an Iron grip is about to overtake all...The Freelancer Trent will be embroiled in the most exciting journey of his life. I loved the graphics, I loved the exctended plot and the open game play as I assumed the Person of Edisen Trent, also, the suport with the Lancer reactor web site that allowed easy modifications to ships and game play makes this a must have and must play for this old Privateer....Chris Roberts...you've done it again...congrates to Digital Anvil for a fine piece of work. now if I can just get back to the seamier side of the Gemini Sector...the Troy system! The Old Privateer
Love it till the end.

This game could easily be described as morrowind in space. You start as a freelancer down on his luck per say, loosing his ship to some sort of space station explosion, starting at teh bottom you work you way up, gaining levels giving you access to better ships and equipment. This is very much a game of how much time you'll invest to get more money for bigger and bitter ships and equipment. Some of the story missions can get a tad hard, and it can get extremly annoying fly through enemy space but the games pros easily overcome its cons. The contol works very well but a tad different from other space sims, using he mouse to aim and move together, although it sounds like it could be a tad hard to control after a mission or two you should have it down pat. The game has a great idea for multiplayer but it would seem to me each server you play one has your ship on so start a new server you loose you ships from other servers and for that reason I haven't played it much, but a big patch could easily fix that issue (mayby they could take a hint from diablos 2 multiplayer.
Only major problem is once you beat the game, the random missions get tedious, it took me 14 hours to beat the story mode.

Let's just say, stay away from this game if you have a GeforceFx video card. It's not supported and even after you add it to the database manually (as told by the Microsoft tech support), the game locks up while loading. The tech support came up with over 15 ways to solve this problem but still it wouldnt work. and no, it's not because of my PC. I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I visited the MS forum the other day and found that several other people were having the same troubles when playing this game with a GeforceFX. So just a warning to you all, DO NOT purchase this game if you own a GeforceFX...wait 'til MS releases a patch later in the future...if ever...This is yet another 'unfinished product' from Microsoft.
Too Short Too Easy

I found this game too short and two easy. It only had 13 story line missions, and I only died a handful of times, it was no challenge. I finished the game within 2 days. I still have to explore the systems, but I won't be taking on any of the missions available in the bar as they are so repetitive.
I found the story line to be very engaging and interesting to play, but I thought the ending was weak, and a bit is that all there is. I didn't like how you had to follow the story line to increase your fighting ability.
The game this most reminded me of was privateer, but without the variety.
I like the mouse control, but I do think it does need joystick support.
