This game is fantasticly deep and rich; it's like being in a seven-book fantasy series. The one criticism I have of it is combat: I think it should have taken a page from Jade Empire and been a little more user-friendly but complex.
What I mean by that is that in Oblivion you can either try ranged attacks with magic or arrows, or you can wade in and swing swords/axes etc. The latter works fine. The former is both repetitive (as there are few combos, if any) and boring, but also tricky in a way that experience and practice does not make any more fun.
Jade Empire had a great system where basic movements were all mapped to the main keys but as your character increased in experience it gained more combos and "forms." Oblivion 5 or whatever it is, should use something like that.
Other than that though, game is wonderful.

Get divorced, give away your pets, quit your job, and stock the pantry because you will be busy for awhile. Of course you could plow through the main game but where is the sport in that? This is the type of game that can be brought out long after it has been completed and still enjoyed as much as when it was new.
Lots of long reviews, so I'll be brief.

AVOID THIS GAME because....
1) It is maddeningly buggy. It crashes so much that I find myself restarting the system (which is brand new) every time I sit down to play it. I've memorized THE SOUND it makes before it crashes, it crashes so much.
2) Everything has a load time. Everything.
PLAY THIS GAME because....
1) It's beautiful. It just is.
2) When you talk to someone, not only do their lips move, but the lip movements make sense!
3) The physics are so nifty that I'm constantly amused; I bought a house, put a basket in the corner of my room, and (with some difficulty) dropped little momentos in it. Objects roll downhill, and bounce when they hit the ground.
4) I really feel like I'm *playing a role*, actually making a character who chooses between good and evil, rather than leveling up someone else's character and reading the subtitles that tell me what happens to them. (*cough*FinalFantasy*cough*)
Overall:
- I'd like to personally whip whoever debugged this game (or didn't debug it, as the case may be)
- If you have broadband and XBox Live, you might be able to get some patches. I, unfortunately, do not have the money for this (it's not even my XBox; my younger brother got it)
This game is on its own playing field. I've never gotten to play anything like this before.
Play this game!
----------------------------------------
+(This last part is only for people who played Morrowind)+
----------------------------------------
- Argonians don't suck any more! And they can wear boots! Full-time water-breathing!
- You can ride a horse, but you can't fight from horseback. What's up with that?
- Fast-travel lets you jump between locations, and it is THE BOMB!
- NO MORE CLIFFRACERS!
- Placing items in a house is a little trickier, but more versatile.
- Intelligence potion cheat no longer works.
- No levitation. Not even slowfall.
- You can only train 5 skill levels per character level. Yeah, I know....
The best way to keep two Oblivion players in the same house happy

Alright, everyone who's played the game knows all about the absolutely awesome graphics, intricate story, immersive gameplay, etc. Here's the deal; my wife bought me Oblivion for the PC for my birthday. Like another reviewer experienced, she was awed by the graphics and gameplay. So much so that whenever I returned from work after she did, I would find her sitting at the computer, playing the game. Like all of us guys do, she'd say stuff like "Let me just clear out this dungeon, and you can start playing" or "I just need a little bit longer to level up - I'm so close". I'd wander off to watch TV or read, and two hours later she'd still be at it. However, this Christmas she surprised me with a 360, and I bought Oblivion, and now we both have our own platforms to play on, and have disagreements about which platform is the better display for Oblivion. P.S. We both think the game is way too buggy.
Excellent GAME!!!!! I do not regret buying it.....

So far I have played 40 hours on this game and I've only scratched the surface. It's amazing what you can do... you have total freedom. For example, if you like structure there is a main quest you can follow, however, if you like exploring and doing a mission of your choosing every now and then that is an option also. You have freedom of character also. For example, if you like being a wizard and focus on magic thats an option, however if you like being a warrior and just focus on slashing people up hey you can do that also. There are many character types you can chose from. These are just two of many. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally I like the mage skill... magic.
As for details, the graphics are amazing especially if you have HD TV. Their still really good regardless. As for playability, like I've stated above... I've spent 40 hours so far playing this game and I'm still not tired of it. I'm just getting started!!
Personally, I think this is the best XBox 360 game out. I've been disappointed in many of the releases especially since they now cost 60 dollars. If I'm going to pay 60 dollars I better like the game enough to play it more than just one week and get tired of it.
Basically, buy it you wont be sorry especially if you like RPGs like Fable.
Great game

I'll keep this short as most of the high and low points have already been addressed. I own this game for both the PC and 360. All I really want to say is if you have access to a PC with enough muscle to run it, that's the place to play it, the control is better, and the lag is MUCH reduced. It looks great on either platform, and plays well on both, it just plays better on the PC.
