Every true RPG gamer knows who Erdrick is. He hit the US with Dragon Warrior one in the eighties and started the console roleplaying industry for Nintendo. After Dragon Warrior IV, he and his descendants, along with a certain merchant, vanished. Well, they're back. This time he has a new name, much more modern language skills, and a slightly prettier landscape to explore. Enix kept the basics of the game the same, but they did change a few things, as mentioned above. Erdricks name, the type of language used, some graphics, and a few very minor item locations. Anyone for instance remember the fairy flute in Kol? It's now two steps down from the hot springs, and called the Pixy Flute. If you don't have the original games, or have trouble plodding through the old graphics, these games are a must. The first hour of play I had to adjust to but it came back pretty quickly. It is much closer to the japanese original and you must buy, if for no reason other than to show the continued American interest in this series. All in all, an absolutely incredible combo game that I would recommend to anyone. If sales are high enough, there is some hope of the remaining games, 3 and 4 on gameboy, and possibly 5, 6, and 7 on playstation, arriving in the US. As it is, Enix has returned and proven itself viable. Their unique style has returned and we are ready. Also check out Valkyire Profile, Dragon Warrior Monsters, and Torneko: The Last Hope, available soon.
It should be fun

This game stays true to the original while adding cutscenes, better graphics, and better sound. I hope that they make the rest of the series for game boy color.

I just bought this game about a week ago & I'm already hooked. When I got it,I didnt even know that they were first played on the NES until some1 told me.This was weird, but I was looking through our old NES games, and I found DRAGON WARRIOR.I hooked up the NES we had buried in the closet, and played it.Its just like the Gameboy Version except they added a few better things to it.Anyway, this is a Great Game for RPG Fans, even if your not.I Totally Reccomend it!!!
They took out two of the things that made the game Great....

I am a huge fan of this series! However, I am a fan of the Originals (I gave this Four stars becuase even with the changes, it's still a good game and I would recommend it to RPG fans who haven't played the originals). Part of what made them So great was the Old stye Speech (A very important part of the game), which they removed for this version. Another part was the Perfect Hero, Erdrick (A very Heroic, Royal, And Memorable name), which they re-named Loto...Yes, Loto. Honestly, I would have still been very upset, but not nearly as infuriated as I am if they had at least chosen a better name than Loto. The name Loto for a Hero doesn't cut it for any respectable RPG. Getting Rid of Erdrick was a BAD idea altogether, but changing it to something as bad as Loto was downright wrong. Those two changes are what turned me away from this game. It gives the Dragon Warrior Series a bad name. Anyway, I'll finish before I get into too much of a rant. For anyone who has played the Original games, or wants to see the games how they were intended, go pick up an old NES and the original games from some Auction site! (It'll probably cost you less too!) For newcomers, however (even though I still suggest getting the originals), It's not a bad buy.

I always loved the Dragon Warrior seris on the NES. So I picked this game up as soon as it came out. Even if you already own these games on your nintendo, you should get this game boy 2 pak. The games are vastly improved from there NES counterparts. For example, remember having to pull down the menu and push stairs just to climb stairs in Dragon Warrior 1? Not any more it's automatic now like every other game in the world. Also the graphics are better the their NES versions. The game also comes with a neat map poster that shows the whole land of both the games. Who could resist 2 great games in 1 cartridge ....
Great, but hard to understand.

I bought this game the day after Christmas, ... and recieved it three days later and started playing right away. I gave this game a 4 stars because it's rather hard to understand when if this is one's first RPG. THe game it self has a " Final Fantasy " like style when in combat. I myself can't stand the "FF" series simply because it's more text than it is actual fighting. But the DW series fighting style is not even 1/100 as bad as the FF series. I'm afraid I can't review the how the second game is because I'm still on the First. However, I would advise all serious RPG or plain old game fan, to buy this game. Oh yeah when I refer to Final Fantasy, I mean the PSX series.
