Best RPG I ever played

If anyone is familier with MUDS/MOOS they were text based MMRPGs. Everquest takes it that next step by making it look like quake with all those people people role playing. The graphics are amazing and the interface is good. The best part is that you make a lot of friends you can group with. If your looking for an online RPG this is the one.

Not for your average gamer.

While this game is an impressive technical achievement that manages to work pretty well for hundreds of users at a time, it haas a number of flaws that will ruin the game for many.

The game world is very detailed and the play is engrossing for many many hours, which is also the problem. In order to advance in this cyber-world, you need to be able and willing to devote HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of hours to play it, far more than a casual player like myself cares to commit.

Less than halfway through the game ceases to be much fun and becomes tedious. In my opinion this is because the designers decided to concentrate on making the game difficult instead of fun.

It's addictive, not particularly fun

The entire game is based on raising your characters level to meet the next goal, it's a neverending treadmill. Verant realized this of course and added in "Hell Levels" where it takes two or three times the work to get through. Aside from the ease of communicating with others, which can be done in any chatroom, the game is pointless. It actually gets harder as you increase in level. It's addictive because they always hold something just ahead of you, and you think "just another couple levels and I can have that spell!". Every time you gain abilities npcs gain two. It's infuriating, and time consuming.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "SWWWWEEEEEEEEETT GAME! "

This is a game for the ages, Everquest has brought me many hours of entertainment. The game has not only a great graphics but the roleplaying is fantastic and only getting better with time. I cant say enough good things about this game. The only bad thing about the game is that there is not enough time in the day to play as much as i wish i could.

Don't buy this.. not because it's a bad game read on!

Sure you CAN buy this seemingly cheaper version of Everquest for 9.99 and it might be a good deal... but later on you will realise you NEED the expansions to really be part of the game. Then you will end up paying 19.99 for Scars of Velious and another 29.99 for another original Everqeust and the Ruins of Kunark. You are MUCH MUCH better off buying the 29.99 Ruins of Kunark and then the Scars of Velious saving you 9.99. It's well worth it too because if you don't buy Ruins of Kunark you can't play the lizard man race. Sure it's 10 more of an investment to buy kunark now but you will save money in the long run.

Here is the Honest Truth, Not Negative or Positive

This game is very fun if a few things happen. You must join a guild and leech off of people to get items that you will never get unless you leech better items then you don't need the item you were after in the first place. You must make friends with people who are a higher level than you or at least a veteran who has a few alt characters and his current character is equal to yours. If you do not do both of those things then you will not enjoy the game.

This game is very addictive until you run into a wall. At certain levels you will have an insanely hard time leveling up. Also no matter what you race or class you play as, you will be kos(killed on sight) to someone. The fact that a level 40-50 NPC can run up to a much weaker PC and kill him is very disturbing. On the game, I played a very hated class called a Shadow Knight. Everywhere I go, guards, good guys, and people with no lives hunt me down. Keep in mind I am level 20 while they are level 40-50. This fact alone makes travelling through some zones impossible.

The classes are horribly unbalanced. Any suggestions or petitions are completely ignored. The game become very frustrating and it will make you lose sleep and time with your friends. Since you can use magic and you never have to worry about permanently dying; the EQ world becomes better than your reality. You get sick of real life and you never want to be a part of it.

I would say this game sucks but I do like it and I am addicted to it. Don't buy it unless you have no social life already or you won't when you get done with it.

a great potential.

I am an avid Everquest fanatic, i've been playing the standard version on my main character for approximately 500 hours. To put this into perspective, I've beaten Final Fantasy VII (an incredibly epic Playstation and PC RPG) in a mere 60 hours. Just the mere social aspect is wonderful. More often than not, EQ people are kind and most generous. You can organize temporary or permanent groups of all your Everquest friends in groups or guilds. I'm in a guild and it greatly enhances the gaming experience. This new expansion will feature a revamped graphics engine, so the scenery and effects will be even more beautiful. And you'll have an entire new continent to explore with existing or new Lizard race characters. If the expansion pack is even a fraction of the fun i've had with the full version, you bet I'm gonna plunk down the cash for it. BTW a major note. If you _already_ have the full version, do NOT pay $37 for the expansion. the expansion set is much cheaper. The $37 price is an excellent buy, but only IF you don't already have the full version.

Excellent game - can be frustrating though

I purchased this game when it was first released in February of 1999. It is very addictive and the game has gone through numerous expansions and changes since its enception. Although the play dynamics were very boring when the game first came out it has improved greatly. It has a group based play system, which means you have to combine your character skills with other character's skills to accomplish a goal to defeat a creature or MoB as they are called in game. Some MoB bosses requiring up to 60 or more players to defeat. After a kill the the player or players earn experience and collect any items or coin that drop. Some characters classes are soloable but most aren't.

Other things players can do is learn a trade skill, which requires lots of coin or platinum pieces. The higher the skill level of a player, the more likely they are to produce items that will sell for a nice profit.

Player run guilds are also an option for players to join. To join a guild often requires a long trial period before the guild leaders decide if a character is suitable or not. Ten players are required and some form of organizational documentation for GMs to allow a player to start a guild. Many guilds have their own websites and forums.

Usually the game doesn't start getting interesting until a character gets past level 25 or so. The upper levels, 60+, provides the highest opportunity in the game and the most enjoyment. Be prepared to die alot in all levels.

With the game being six years old, starting a new character maybe somewhat difficult since most players are 60+ and grouping has a 10 level spread. There are low level characters in the game, they just have to be found.

The game has many more features. I have only mentioned the most prevelant ones.

awsome baby!!!

I have played other online community type games before...this one is by far the best...in other games the people were snobish, and clickish, gameplay was tedious and extemely difficult. With EQ gamplay is simple to understand, and while nothing is handed to you, (yes, you do have to work to achieve anything), the process is much easier to acomplish. The people who play EQ are much friendlier too, and willing to help you any way they can, short of actually "giving" you what you want.
